Welcome to broadband in Australia...

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!

Normally a player can look great on tubes, but one of the things that's encouraging for me is just the amount of youtube videos on him

Just gone to o2 pretty happy with it to be honest 10x better than when i was with Virgin.

Having now moved to the Centre of Brighton, it appears I am out of O2 and Oranfge's catchment area (huh? I had it on the outskirts, but now I'm in the centre, I am not covered....?)

Anyway, I checked this site: www.broadbandchecker.co.uk and having checked my line it says this:

•Your line should be capable of supporting download speeds up to 6Mb.
•An incompatible product may be installed on the line or you already have ADSL broadband
•Your chosen service provider will be able to help with migrations and compatibility issues
•Your line will be fully tested when you place an order
•Unbundled broadband services up to 24Mb (around 480 times faster than dial-up) are available in your area

I am interested in the bold bit, what does unbundled broadband mean??

It means an LLU provider is available, stick your number into http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php

Not sure how that works Ben.  I have looked at what is available and it lists this:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Pipex LLU
Tiscali LLU
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)
Virgin Media (Cable)

So I assume the LLU for O2 for instance is their access on this page: http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/packages.jsp

Whish is shit speed for the price.

LLU means that the provider has their own stuff in the exchange so can offer ADSL2+. Did that list have a tick beside them as if it did, it means Be/o2 are at the exchange. Try sticking your number into the checker at www.bethere.co.uk

On Samknows when I do an exchange search it gives me this:

ADSL: Yes
SDSL: Yes
LLU services: Yes
Cable: Yes
Wireless: No

When I do the link you gave me it gives a tick to all those mentioned here:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Pipex LLU
Tiscali LLU
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)
Virgin Media (Cable)

But when I go on to the O2 site it says I can only have access, so I called them and they told me the same, their equipment isn't  at the exchange.

I have checked Be and it has offered me service, but says this:

Quote
BUT... some technical problems mean we can't get BE connected to your number straight away. Sorry but there will be a slight delay in getting your number connected to BE. We are on the case though.

I assume this is just becuse there is already a Tiscali service waiting to cancel down from the previous owner.

Looks like I might have to.  Annoyed that samknows and broadband checker both keep offering me O2 LLU, but O2 say they don't have their stuff there.

Be is a bit more expensive that I wanted but I suppose £14 isn't bad.

Be is o2. If theres a Tiscali tag on the line, that will be why and o2 obviously just have a shit number checker. It could also be that the exchange is over subscribed, give them a bell and ask.

Thanks for the advice Ben, Smiff and SalisburyRed.

I just spoke to O2 and they said it looks like they have got their stuff set up on the exchange but might be a few weeks until it is rolled out and finalised e.t.c

Cannot do anything for about 3 weeks anyway, so will wait and see.

Has anyone had any history of dealing with Tiscali or Eclipse?  It appears the tag on my line is from Tiscali.  Orange have confirmed this.  I called Tiscali and they told me the tag is from them but used by one of their resellers, Eclipse.

I have tried to speak with Eclipse for them to remove the tag, but they are not being much help.  Short of going completely mad, and short of emailing customer services (which I have done) is there anything I can do with Orange to get them to help?

Ofcom suggest it should be the 'gaining ' provider who help, but considering I am already with Orange and am paying for their service already, it seems they don't really care where my internet with them is, as long as they get their money.

You need to ask Tiscali or Eclipse or whoever it is to cease the service. Or get a MAC code from them.

Looks like I might need some advice again, I have breifly googled but doesn't seem to get me anywhere.

Just called BE as my line was cleared today, they told me they don't offer LLU in my area. I checked Samknows and it says they did, since 2006.

He checked again and says the reason they cannot do anuything is because my exchange is over crowded.  Now, does this mean BE is overcrowded or the exchange in general?

They suggested O2 but they are giving me the same trouble (not avail in my area) but I assume that is becasuse of this overdrowding and they use the same lines?

Would another company be able to offer me? Or am I stuck waiting for someone to jump ship?

Checked on BT and cannot find any info either.

This is my exchange BTW: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/SDHV

Most likely any ISP you'll join will use the nearest exchange to your place and which looks like it is the "overcrowded" exchange.  Try to see if you can go via the cable route (virgin media) or wireless

It means BE/O2 is overcrowded. LLU operators put their own equipment in the exchange. This equipment obviously has a finite capacity and it would appear that they have reached capacity in that exchange and can't take on more customers until either

a) lots of customers leave them
b) they rent further space in the exchange from Openreach (this may not be possible) and install additional equipment.

I wouldn't bother because the chances are that even if a few customers left them and space on their LLU equiment became available, they're obviously operating at max capacity which likely means increased contention ratio and more likely a poorer BB performance. Other operators should be able to provide your BB.
