Yeah, great recommendations as always JP!!

We did Pennard, Machynys & Pyle & Kenfig last year, and Rolls of Monmouth, Ashburnham & Clyde this year.

I had a corporate the day before the Wales trip (this year) at St Mellion, and the course is in absolutely fantastic nick.......probably the best (and hardest) course i've ever played.  We were the 1st to stay in the new hotel.....v.nice!  Play it if you get the chance!

Haven't played it for a few years, tight in a few spots isn't it?

Not a problem if you hit 'em long & straight (a rare occasion in my case!)

I screwed my back up, and haven't played for 9 months now....ugh!

They'd done it up since i played it last (4 years ago) in preperation for the English Open.

9 months out??  Bloody hell, I bet that's hard going......especially for someone who plays as much as you!

I'm on 28 now. Yesterday I had 36 stableford points after 16, and was certain that I would finish off like I had played all day.

Ended up with fucking nothing on the last two holes. Bugger!!

On a sidenote. Me and some mates are looking in to spend a long week-end golfing somwhere on the British islands in late september. Any suggestions of where would be the best place to take a golf vacation? Scotland (where?), England(where) or Ireland (where?)

southwales, pyle & kenfis, machynys peninsula & Royal Portcawl (although you could go for a cheaper option if your not that keen on golf) stay in the Dragon Hotel, Swansea.

Considering I had never played golf on a full course until a few weeks ago, I'm quite happy with the progress that I have made.
Got myself a decent Dunlop set which didn't break the bank and they feel good. The only problem is that my tee shots have so much elevation and not much distance although I can clear just over 200 yards.

My putting is good though not exceptional but I only need to tweak it a little and I'll be where I want.

Living in North Ayrshire/West of Scotland, there are plenty of very good courses to choose from.
We'll visit the Folies Bergeres,
They like to see the Scousers there,
The women are lovely with skin like a peach,
But no one can move it like Kenny Dalglish.

I'm 15.

Started the sunday before yesterday and did 2 x 9 holes. Got 21 points on both. Then I played again last wednesday, 2 x 9 holes. Got 13 points on the first and 17 points on the second. Then I played yesterday, 9 holes. I got 8 points.

I hit the ball around 250 metres with the 3-wood, 150-200 with the 7-iron. Anything less than 150 I use the PW or, if it's a short distance/in the sand/in the rough, the SW.

Of course distance doesn't matter very much if you can't hit it straight. But I do hit it straight. Very much so. So how come, other than the two 21-pointers, I've had such shit results? Well, I average about 4 puts per hole. Yeah..

I think I have potential though. Going out again tomorrow and as soon as I have my official hcp I will hit the 18-hole courses.

Too bloody right!!

If I ever shot a 76, i'd shoot my load!

It all depends on the course difficulty, what tees are you playing off etc.

It's why I prefer the US slope system, combined with the Course Index for the tee you're off, gives a much better representation of how you've done.

But, no matter what, a 76 is still nice!

Old Course
Pinhal
Faldo's course
Pine Cliffs
Penina

We got the first three half price and free buggy hire because my mate is a pro and knows someone out there which is a bonus.

I managed to get 8 holes in yesterday (although the last 2 were a joke as the greens were completely submerged in water), before the siren sounded to get us all back in.

Thank fuck I invested in some Galvin Greens!

Played the first three before. Really like the Old course. Faldo's is pretty new but it's a great set up.

I've been thinking about getting one or two of these hybrid wood/iron clubs - can anyone tell me how they match up distance-wise to woods or irons of the same number, i.e. 3W / 3i / 3H?

Thanks.

Edit: what I'm particularly looking for is a club I can hit from the fairway that is equivalent to a 3 or 4W (my 3W has too big a head for that - fine off the tee, but scary off the fairway).

Ended up playing Victoria instead of Faldos course.
They are setting it up for the portugese masters so it was bloody tough.

Back 9 is a stern test, plenty of water and incredibly thick rough.

Old Course is still fantastic, absolutely love it.

I've been out for almost a year with a prolapsed disk in my back.

Go to the first tee, for my first shot coming back, no warm up, no practice before, was in a match so told my competitor that I hadn't swung a golf club for almost a year, he chuckled thinking that he had this one nailed, I proceeded to drill it 270 yards in the middle of the fairway.....quite funny to see his face go from smiling to quite sour.

Stuffed him 4&3 with a 5 over par......not bad for an old guy, with a bad back ;D

Used to be pretty good at Uni. Can't play for toffee now though, but I still have the same forged blades. Think I need to get some more friendly irons.

Can still his my 8 degree driver like a beast though.
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

Terry, handicap singles.

Didn't sign up for scratch this cycle.....will wait 'till next summers for that.

I was 5 over gross though, on a 7000+ yard, quite difficult golf course.

Well done, never had one, but have seen 2 go in for other people.

Just got back, went +5 again, with 4 birdies in a row, one on a 210 yard Par 3 was 3 inches from the hole.....oh well, one of these days!

Played for the first time in ages last week.  Was as hysterically shit with my driver and long irons as ever, but my short iron/wedge game was better than it's ever been...I was hitting pitching wedge shots for 130y and actually fairly straight.  If I could learn how to twat a driver straight and learn how to putt more consistantly I'd be alright (I still wouldn't be good, but at least I wouldn't be shit).

yesterday was my first game in 2 months or so on a new course to me, I didnt score on 3 of the first 4 holes, just couldnt get my swing in shape... but i managed 32 points overall. so i started to get it going after a while, notched up the hole in one... my shots were way too inconsistant tho, didnt find the fairway much, but i chipped about 6 shots to within a foot from around the green, my €20 wilson lob wedge is a delight :D

Great course, played there a few years back just after the WGC.

Played in a corporate golf day last Friday at Hawkstone Park near Shrewsbury.  Came 2nd & won a trip to London to see a show complete with hotel; which was nice!

Only just seen this thread has been brought back to life.

I have played a couple of rounds with Pepe (Reina) recently.

Him, Kuyt & Riera have joined Blundells Hill, none of them are up to much (Handicaps in there 20's) but they all love it.

Pepe loves it more than the others, he has been playing in the comps and finished 3rd last week in the monthly medal, he had a net 68 playing off 28 (gross 96) although he was unable to collect his prize as he hasn't played enough comps (I am sure he will be gutted).

There all really nice lads, are very approachable and Pepe is very keen to get involved with the club and play with other members.

How many members of 'The hole-in-one club' are here on RAWK?

I had my closest ever on Saturday, at The Gallery, Dove Mountain, number 3, 160 yds, one bounce, hit the pin about 3 inches up and settled about a foot high. :(

Still only made par too. :(
Been all over the world but Anfield is still my home.
