U18s squad for this season, or at least these who were available for their picture. Features Spearing with an incredible tan.

We have two Jay Spearings? That's kind of scary....

Thanks for the Getty images link.  Good to put faces to names weíve seen glimpses of when playing up last year.  13 in the new age group into the U18s is quite a large number.  At the other end of the academy, they need to get a fair number more from the u23s out on loan to make space.

Young Jay the player looks a lot like older Jay the coach. Looks like they both went to the same place on holiday as well.

We have the sons of 3 former Premier League players in the U18s next season, I'd be surprised if that's happened before. EDIT: Actually it's 4 with Bobby Clark.

Heís too good for that level, one that would benefit from playing against men, heís got the skills but needs to learn how to use his body and center of gravity against bigger/stronger players, I donít the benefit of him scoring 50 goals next season against boys

Mabaya is jacked just looking at the latest training video, another RB in the long conveyor belt of RB Kirkby seems to be producing

Crazy how developed he is body wise for a 17 yr old

Wonder if he gets a loan this season

Very doubtful. Not played much if any u23 football and it's very rare we loan players his age out.

He can do that in u23 football whilst he bulks up.  Think he's just to small/slight at the moment for any football League club to really give him a chance. He's only just turned 18, he doenst need to be out on loan yet

The school of goalkeepers is doing well.

A lot seemed bemused about him going so low down the pyramid. It was a bit surprising but I can see him performing to a level that makes teams well above Macclesfield's level take notice. If he does well enough I wouldn't be surprised if say a League 2 team wanted to take him, and even if that doesn't happen you could get a national league team have a go on him which is 5th tier and respectable given his age.

Nicely worked goals, them. The first two were excellent strikes and some good football for the last one. Cannonier just knows where to be it seems

We were always going to reach a stage where new players couldn't talk about where they were during Istanbul and how it inspired them to want to play for us. Although I suppose they could say they watched it years later on Youtube ...

Looks like we'll be able to use the Barcelona semi final going forward, though.

To them, it'll be synonymous with our Super Cup win in 2019. Or our victory in the 2023 Champions League final.

any more of these youngish lads going off on loan?

think mabaya might have turned some heads with his performance. with ramsay hopefully back soon, mabaya game time might just be limited. we still have milner/hendo who might just deputize there as temporary stop gap.

No chance he goes on loan. He is very very raw as a right back and he has barely even played u23 football. You could say he has impressed in pre season but you could also say he was at fault for a goal vs united and way out of position for the goal last night. He has a long way to go. I wonder do the club only see him as a right back now and not a midfielder or are they just playing him at rb because there is nobody else there.

Has Musialowski had an injury? I assumed that was why we havenít seen much of him. Frauendorf like a lot of the kids last night looked a bit like a rabbit in the headlights which is to be expected when playing at Anfield in front of a large crowd for the first or one of the first times. Bajcetic, Clark and Musialowski didnít appear to be phased but the rest still seem to be some way off even the standard for cup games for now. Thatís not a criticism of course, theyíre all still very young with plenty of development ahead of them.
