Liverpool FC Forum / Re: Mohamed Salah - Best in the World *

For me it is reminiscent of Ronaldo at United.

If you are one of the best players in the World then you can just about get away with demanding to start and demanding to stay on the pitch. You have to be able to back that up on the pitch though.

I think it is clear that Salah's form no longer entitles him to be an automatic starter and his behaviour is disrespectful to both the manager and his team mates.

The question is what do we judge it on, because the form he had before AFCON justifies him being thought of as one of the best players in the world…

Do we also make the same agreement for Haaland who has had a similar run of bad form?

Taylor will say he was playing advantage, that is why his arm was sticking out. The minute the keeper rolled the ball out and Cody went for it, there was no longer an advantage.

All made up shite, but there you go.

Yeah, that'll likely be the excuse we get given... though many of us will see it as soon as the gk chooses to throw the ball down for him to kick it, then any 'advantage' (given for a gk colliding with is own defender) is over - and the ball is in play for everyone.

Jones got a red card for the same tackle, we've not seen one since, pisses me right off that.

I do think the PGMOL nobbled any chance we had of the title. Right from early on, things happened that prevented us from getting any kind of lead or grip even before the Spurs game, there were really strange decisions that have only been applied to us.

It’s no surprise the players and Klopp eventually run out of energy, they must see what is obvious to us all. Even though we were shit against Everton, they were being reffed far differently to us.

I still think at the start of the season everyone would have taken challenging for the title with 8 games left. Wheels have fallen off a bit, to be expected.

I felt the same too. At the beginning of the season I felt like we over performed and that it would catch up with us. Then in January I started to feel like we would really do it and we were top of the league with limited games to go. Then at the end here is just seems to have fallen apart for whatever internal reason. Maybe some of the players have already decided to leave and we are just limping to the end of the season.

Liverpool FC Forum / Re: Luis Díaz (Luis Fernando Díaz Marulanda)

But basically everything we created today came through him?
He's the best player on the pitch today. That is not debatable, but also doesn't have to contradict with what we're trying to say (about Diaz not being a team player).

The thing is there are days like this where he looks electrifying as an individual, and there will be days where it looks like all he does is cut back and pass inside without any purpose. The common thing is in both cases he doesn't connect with anyone else in our team.

Remember the days when Mane used to backheel it to an overlapping Robbo without even looking? Now think about Diaz. Since he took over that LW role, who is the player he's most connected with? I can't think of any. Do you remember many nice passages of play on the left side (individual solo efforts aside)? I think both Diaz and the coaching team share the responsibility for this. He's just not that type of team player and the coaching team doesn't seem to rectify this problem.

To be fair I think the open play back post situation is one that most 'natural' fullbacks (i.e. the ones that aren't converted CBs) struggle with. It used to be pretty much the only time that Ashley Cole used to look vulnerable.

That set piece is really poor though. By the time the ball gets over to him it is too late and he probably isn't winning a header against Calvert Lewin however good his body language. But there seems to be a complete lack of awareness and communication from him to try and prevent that from happening.

I've never had a problem with his physical commitment or his competitiveness. But his concentration defensively is a massive issue and it feels like it is not something he is even trying to improve.

Maybe he has decided that he is now a central midfielder (whether that be from an inverted RB position or a conventional midfield position) and not a defender. I'm not actually sure if he can hack it as a top level CM - he gets played around way to easily out of possession and whilst he is exceptional once he gets his head up on the ball he never looks completely comfortable in the confined spaces when he is hurried. In a funny kind of way it feels a bit like how Gerrard always wanted to play as a box to box CM in the middle of everything but was much more productive playing in other positions where he had the space to make his talent count.

That's the problem though. It's as if he completely switches off, which is the reason I said he's always been vunerable in those situations. He didn't even need to win the header. He just needed to "compete" for the ball. When we struggle defensively as a unit his defensive lapses becomes more apparent.

When all the nonsense about Klopp and Salah dies down, we'll probably have time to reflect that both now look out on their feet after giving everything over the last few years. Since he announced he was leaving, results have steadily declined.
This has all the markings of not so much end-of-season, but end-of-era stuff written all over it.
Next season neither will be here.

Our DoF hasn’t officially started yet,  give them a chance!
I think he’ll stay, there’s just a lot of moving pieces. There’s still those questions about where he should play and where he wants to play.

Don't think I've ever seen a ref decide to call the physios on. It's like he's telling Ariola he's injured. All to cover up for his own mistake.

Areola tells him he is fine and then Taylor physically blocks him from taking the goal kick twice. Unfucking real.
