Excellent news. It's 99.9% done.

I'm already looking forward to next season.

Same here. Genuinely excited. Looking forward to both the summer transfers & the season.

Looking forward to what players Edwards, Hughes, & Slot will bring in to improve the title-challenging squad we already have.

New chapter, new manager + coaching staff, & surely some new players as well.

New voices on the training pitch will do some players very good.

Maybe Alonso would've been the exception but we won;t know now. But Rossi mate, are you really advocating that all our age groups blueprint for the past decade should go up in flames because Kloppo is going?
What's the alternative? That we're still playing exactly the same way in 2040 because we can't possibly disturb the precious under-11s?

Serious question though. How does he deal with low block teams (bulk of the teams we face) ?. I know he is very flexible tactically but how does he deal with teams who stay deep defensively?

Unlike some, I’ll admit my ignorance. I know nothing about him, I also know very little about Amorim. Slot seems like he has the character for the job though, and that is part of the job.

Anyone who thinks we’ve paid £10m for a transition manager is a moron.

I think the squad isn't as good as Klopp said it was on his announcement and I'm worried about the extent to which he had some of our players over-performing. Lots of questions around the level of players our more recent additions in Diaz, Nunez, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai they certainly have potential but I'm not super confident about their ability to fulfill it. Then there are more questions about established players and what level we can expect from them going forward. A lot of them are well off their best. Trent in particular seems to be an issue regarding his role. His return to the side seems to have impacted Macallister's ability to dictate the game. Robertson hasn't had his best season. Salah has been dreadful since AFCON. Even the players I am pretty confident in like Jota, Konate and Alisson seem to have injury problems. Virgil has had a pretty good season, but we still seem to be awful at keeping clean sheets.

There's honestly not any managerial talent around that's on Klopp's level. So I can understand the muted response of some. It's hard to be excited when you're losing a manager who put together one of, if not the greatest Liverpool side you've ever seen. But you have to give the new manager a chance or you may as well give up on football. Can't see a title challenge again next season, but will be disappointed if we don't make the CL.

It will be interesting at least to evaluate FSG's 'model' without Klopp. I can't say I've got much faith in it. Even with Klopp it seemed to offer zero margin for error. But at least we'll finally know the truth and end the debates on here lol.

Didn't realise he's only 45. God I feel old  :'(

I was talking to a mate last night. I’ve just turned 58 and he will in a month.

He mentioned his older sister will be 60 later this year.

This is the sister I used to fancy something crazy when I was 13/14.

Well.... not to be brutal about it, but if the rumours are to be believed and that the 'nerds' were pissed off with recruitment over the last few years, then they have every right to be annoyed. The team at its worst does look disjointed and signings like Diaz, Gakpo and Nunez have got us nowhere. They're all massive downgrades on the committee buys that were Mane, Firmino and Salah.

Going back to the DoF model can only be a good thing.

The committee buys that got us to 4th in their first year together? That had the benefit of not playing in deep domestic cup runs for any of their first 4-5 years playing together? That were brought in over the course of three years (two with PL experience) and allowed to acclimate rather than being brought in over the course of 12 months and expected to win the league from the off? The three that were boosted massively by signings like Van Dijk, Fabinho, Alisson and Andy Robertson all joining and peaking together?

I’m not arguing the current lads are better - that was a generational front three that I’m almost certain the committee couldn’t replicate with double the money now - but the lads that have come in have done well, we’re in transition, Klopp’s running out of gas, the squad has flaws and has been decimated by injuries, I don’t think it’s fair to say the current lads are ‘massive downgrades’. The old lads were brilliant, but don’t let nostalgia let you forget they weren’t always amazing and they too had periods like the current lads where they stunk the gaff out. We lost the league in 20/21 due to injuries, but that shocking run where our season flushed down the drain, we lost a lot of those games due to poor finishing from our forwards, they had bad spells too, it’s just easier to forget them when you’re summarising their entire time here rather than their first 18-30 months

Up until a few days ago I’d never heard of Arne slott ,didn’t know anything about him,but then again in 1974 ,I’d never heard of bob paisley.
Bob who ?,a 55 year old ,second fiddle to bill Shankly that most Liverpool fans didn’t even realise he existed.and in the media at the time the reaction was the same.even bob didn’t want the job and thought he would be keeping the seat warm till shanks had a break and wanted to return .
But he took the the job ,the hardest task of all ,following a huge legend like shanks he was on a hiding to nothing, couldn’t possibly succeed .but we gave him our support and backed him ,wanted him to succeed and boy oh boy did that quiet ,unassuming man succeed.he took us to new greater heights we never thought possible.
All our managers were given time and support even the owl ,although he was quickly found out .
Just give Arne slot the time and support bob got all those years ago .if it turns out like the ride  bob took us on then we’re in for one hell of a ride .

The fact there is a Euros this summer is annoying. This means a lot of internationals will be back late for pre-season training.  The upside for the younger players is they will get longer to impress the manager and be more in the spot light because a lot of he regular first team will be missing.

I'd never heard of him or Amorim until we were linked with both. That's no slur on either. It's just an admission of my own ignorance. All I know now is that he's Feyenood manager and every time I see him he reminds me of Pepe Reina.

To be honest, it's this that's creating the excitement for me. I really don't know what to expect, and our opposition won't either. it could be fun. I certainly hope he's in for the long haul and able to continue Jürgen's wonderful legacy while creating a new era all of his own. He's quite young, and if he gets it right he could be here for a long time to come.

Welcome Arne. It's going to be a very tough act to follow but you have joined a great club with a great history and great fans.

I do think the squad needs a big refresh. Some players need to go and we do need some key players in. FSG need to play their part here and support him.

Some of our players need a rest and a good pre-season. We'll run out of ideas, energy and confidence. Hopefully Slot will address most of that.

Life goes on n hopefully Arne can bring more smiles than not to us. Welcome to the club

I was looking back at some of the earlier pages of this thread for a laugh… it’s clear that not a single one of us had a clue about him. We’re all complete divvies.

Fortunately we have people at the club who aren’t divvies.

There was a post by John C back in January, not long after Klopp had made the announcement - some insider had given him what was supposedly Spearman’s shortlist of four names, three of which were Alonso, Amorim and De Zerbi. Those three make sense in light of what info came out later. The fourth was apparently Terzic from Dortmund but that was always a mad shout. I reckon it was actually Slot all along and John C’s informant had deliberately put him off the scent.

Clearly we got as far as talking to the other three (or their agents) to sound them out but I wouldn’t be surprised if Slot was already the favourite at that point. After all, Spearman had been doing his research since November by that point and I don’t believe he would have been unaware of Slot.

There was also an astute post from rafathegaffa suggesting it would be someone left field we’d never heard of…

Still sad that Klopp is leaving but also excited and optimistic for the future.

Welcome to Liverpool, Arne Slot. YNWA!

Whoever we got was going to be a gamble, Alonso included. We've had years of stability, a world class manager who built a world class team so there's always going to be a challenge to keep that going, just look at United and Arsenal for a clear example.

One thing is for sure, he won't succeed unless everyone unites behind him. So let's do that and see where it takes us!
