how was downing awful?

he must have crossed the ball 10 times at least.

the team at the start was perfect.we got found tactically.

kenny changed it at the perfect time.

hendo grew into the game a bit.if anything this should put to bed the notion that spearing can even be a squad option.

hard luck liverpool but we didnt do our reputation any harm...the support was fantastic.

roll on next season

Carroll apart, the rest of them barely showed up for their biggest game of the season. Our big number 9 showed more heart and desire than the rest of the team put together. Fuck the price tag Andy lad. Play for the shirt like you did today and you'll do just fine.

Kenny needs to really do some thinking for next season, if the owners decide to retain him. That was a shockingly average performance for 2/3rds of the game. No set pattern of play and some absolutely brain-dead decisions made by our players time and time again in the final third.

As for the disallowed goal, I guess it was a fair decision. Its one of those that could've gone either way. As a Liverpool fan, I'd be justifiably furious that it wasn't given, but on the other hand, if a goal like that was given against me, I'd be tearing down my walls as well. No pleasant decision there and the ref decided to err on the side of caution. We can't go about blaming Dowd for the loss when most of our side didn't looked arsed for a majority of the game.

Gutted.  Awful performance first 55 minutes. Almost imperious after that.

Was it over the line... I am not 100% sure, but it was a damn sight closer than the Chelsea one v. Spurs.

Gutted.

Can't agree more

Gutted. I really want Drogba to have a proper career ending tackle. I don't care if that sounds horrible. He is such a fucking cheating twat. And also why did Kenny take off Bellamy instead of Downing? A bizarre sub.

We need to find a way of playing 2 Goal threats in our lineup.
Either we need better wingers / mid-fielders or we need to play 2 strikers, whatever happens we can not continue to play in such a toothless way.

If we'd have bought a CM in the summer we'd have probably won that.

Gutted to be honest, but it doesn't hurt as much because we didn't deserve it. We gifted both Chelsea's goals. Better team probably won at the end of the day. One last big day out for their oldies. Carroll was immense. Sorry Jay, not going to slate you but that was the difference between the two sides today.

Shit end to a shit season, let's just hope the same mistakes are not replicated in the summer YNWA

With the players we have, we're actually better as a long ball team. When Carroll came on, and there was an outlet for the direct ball, we improved tenfold.

A slightly fancier Stoke, as it were.

Commentators on the FSC broadcast were going on about how no matter what the scoreline ended up being, this game may well be the making of Carroll. They were my thoughts exactly at the time. So unlucky with that "saved" header, but who cares. The guy looked like a completely different human being out there today - almost leaderly, really.

This wasn't down to bad luck, this was down to us playing shite for 60 minutes.

Carroll changed the game for us when he came on, boss.

We only turned up at 60 minutes, got what we deserved.

True.

I also can't say the second was a goal. Couldn't be much closer, but I think it fell just short.

Still think Carroll's header was in.  If that wasn't in I don't know what is.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

easy to point fingers..

usual culprits really.. midfield just aint good enough.

this is what chelsea look like with the ball

===Our defence===

Kalou drogba mata

spearing hendo

  lampard

this is what WE LOOK like with the ball before carroll entered.

Chelsea's defence

suarez

whole of chelseas midfield.

downing-gerrard--bellamy

---hendo--- spearing--

..

why?

cause we cant even pass a decent ball forwards without gerrard coming back and taking charge. We all know of spearing's limits.. but hendo.. for 16 million quid.. i expected at least some penetration from time to time.

Credit to our guys for bossing the final half an hour.

As I said in the other thread, if we'd played the entire match or even just the entire second half like we did for the last half hour after Andy came on we'd have at least looked like winning, if not actually won it. Can think of plenty else to say, both about the match and stuff that's been said before it but fuck it. What's done is done. Two games left. Win them.

Totally gutted. In summary, we had a mid table club season. 8th in the league and the Carling Cup. Hard for me to say this but now's the time to step down Kenny. Its a failed season.

Gutted. They offered little but gave away two avoidable goals. Finished the game strongly, Carroll showed what an asset he can be for us. Good lad.

Such fine margins. I thought the original line up was good, Spearing did his best, he's just not Lucas.made it easy for them with the first and then they can sit back.

Well played Redmen.

Chelsea just about deserved that one.

Some positives to take out of this as there is potential there, but at least we will not be papering over the cracks this year. Squaddies like Spearing should not be starting an FA Cup final, and Gerrard's engine is just not what it used to be.

Going into this final I just felt not having Lucas in our team would be decisive - we look bad in the centre of midfield right now and that's where we lost this game. Oh well ... the world keeps spinning.

On balance, Chelsea deserved that one.  We didn't turn up for an hour.  Carroll's 'second' was 50/50.  Another day and another linesman and it would have been given.  Probably should have been given if the benefit of the doubt is for the attacking team.

Hoping to beat them with sheer luck worked with Cardiff, but not CL finalists Chelsea.

It really is a matter of the better team winning. This team has been shit all season bar the CC. Two more matches and hopefully this nightmare will be over, though I said that at the end of last season too.

Honestly don't see what other people see in Henderson. Has minimal effect on games, and today was no different. Andy's header wasn't over the line, end of.

Always thought the same, He cant tackle, cant cross and you could put a goal on top of another goal and he will still sky it. Nowhere near good enough to play for us.

Suarez was left alone for 60 minutes up top. Midfield was awful. Carroll put it a dominant performance and should've been on at half. What we were doing clearly wasn't working.
