Are the Standards Corrupted shirts now anathema?
« on: November 5, 2011, 09:19:43 am »
Apologies if there is an existing topic on this, but I was wondering what people's thoughts are on the Standards Corrupted shirts.

It's a great looking shirt, good quality and, best of all, hugely symbolic of the role that LFC supporters played in ridding the club of the cowboys.

It's comfy round the house and down the pub.

But should it ever been seen at the game?

Why not?

We shouldn't forget the brutal past, wearing just shows how far weve come in 12 months.

I think everyone knows the context - it was anti-Hicks and Gillett. It was never meant as an attack on the Standard Chartered so I can't see a problem if someone wears it to the game.

I still wear mine when playing footy and I need a black top. Much rather a supporter designed and produced shirt than an overpriced official one any day.

My lad still wears his when he's playing out. A Man Utd fan asked him what it was the other day and he told him it's a reminder of what it's like to be owned by leveraged buyout merchants. He then pointed out to this lad that obviously as a utd fan he would still know what that's like!

It's the only shirt that gets complimented on when I play five a side.

That's mainly because the lads are usually enjoying the feast of football I put on show for them

I still wear mine all the time. Usually at the gym, but i've worn it to a few matches since as well. Like others have said, it's a reminder of what we went through and it shouldn't be forgotten. It's also hugely symbollic in terms of what we as a supporter base helped achieve and we should be proud of that in my view.

I still get people asking me what it is even now, although strangely some already knew, even though they weren't Reds. Reassuring to know there are still clued up people out there.

For me it's a symbol of unity, and a reminder of how the fans took back their club from a pair of parasites. It's something to own with pride, and remember all the work which went in to getting the club away from those vultures. I see no reason why it shouldn't be worn whenever you feel like it. It's something not seen ever before, and a piece of this club's history in its own right.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

There are occasionally some being sold on ebay - i think the Viga sports (and fair play to them for undertaking the work and making the shirts too - as well as respect to Johnny J for for making it all happen) people may have been selling them on there at one time as well.

Still wear mine with pride - though could do with another as I've nearly worn it out at footy etc.

I know what your saying, but for similar reasons I don't wear mine.  I now want to keep it looking decent so I've got it as a reminder/ badge of honour in the years to come.

If this wasn't the case, I'd have no problem wearing it anywhere - as always I'm really proud of the fact that we, the supporters, played our part in getting rid of 'them'

If I could afford to, I'd have it professionally framed like some others have done :) I wear it rarely, to keep it in good nick, but it's good quality too so it'll be okay to wear occasionally.

If someone is unfamilar with the context of the protests against Hicks and Gillett, the shirts could today be misinterpreted as being a criticism of Standard Chartered. I think it's fine to keep the shirts, frame them, remember what they were for, but I'm not sure whether they should be worn anymore, especially at games, unless of course the current ownership turns sour and the shirts are needed again.

Obviously things are a million times better now, but would i say we have 'our' club back? Was it ever ours?

The boycotting of games made question things about football in general whilst away, and ive stayed away from the rip off, souless money go-round.

I still love the idea of liverpool football club, that they represent me and my city and others like me. But thats not really the case anymore, and it does my head in when people talk of how were this family, 'socialist' club. No big club in england is like this, and certainly not us in my own opinion.

Wear mine to 5 a side most weeks and still get comments about it - as 24/7 its a badge of honour and I'd be gutted if it ever got ruined.
