maybe they have.

But I guess they are very happy with how its working with him there.  He has played a lot in these last few weeks. He did miss a spell cos he was away with the Brazil team, but he's certainly been involved.  And with them in the Europa - more games to play in, and also he's a year more experienced.  Hertha wouldn't keep him if they didn't like what they saw.

Also Michael Preetz being the sporting director there means that it's likely Jürgen Klopp has trust in his development, being as they are old friends.

Sounds about right ;)

Did Hertha Berlin say they didn't want him on loan this season? Or did we reject them and are looking for another club for him?

initially he was going back there, as they wanted him, but I don't think they where willing to make any sort of guarantees of playing time, so the loan didn't happen.

So yeah, I guess they are trying.

So Watford also sign a U20 Brazil international

No issues with work permit.

What a joke that is.

Richarlison qualifies as being in the top 75% of fees paid by Watford. 75% of wages paid (I assume, if not at least 50%) and having played more than 30% of domestic league games (he played almost all).

Kenedy of Chelsea is the one I don´t get. He qualifies for 0 points that I can see. only 15% of domestic league minutes played, his team wasn´t even in the libertadores (they were in the Sudamerica but the FA don´t recognise that tournament for these purposes) and there is no way his 6m transfer is in the top 75% of fees or wages paid at Chelsea.

I mean not to trot out the dodgy chelsea cliché but what the fuck FA?

Alan hadn't played any senior football when he signed him had he? The other 2 had at least a full season.

No idea if that comes into consideration though

Kenedy played in the regional tournaments, but that is seen more as a pre-season tournament than anything. The real domestic season - the Brasileirão, Kennedy only played 15% of available minutes which is half of what he needed. Richarlison played almost all available minutes. So I can see how he qualifies, not Kenedy though.

I believe we were after him getting some CL experience. maybe that helps with the application?

As a youngster coming over here, not regarded as a unique talent, and no international caps at any level before he got here, a work permit was going to be a struggle.

We obviously see something in him though.

Very unusual for us to have persisted this long for a youth player when registering him has been this complicated.

He doesn't meet any of the requirements. If he can get regular games at a club competing in Europe (CL or Europa) then that should be enough to swing it next summer, unless the rules change again.

Think Portugal will be good for him, language will help on the pitch and hopefully he goes to a team where he can get minutes, Sporting CP might suit him best, can't see him at Benfica or Porto with their MF options, Sporting use Wingers more than the others so someone in the mid passing it to them and whatnot might suit althought all top 3 teams have big squads so he might not be a starter if he goes to any of those 3. Braga could be a shout as he'd get Europa League also.

Will being a starter for them for the whole season mean he'll get enough points for his work permit?

Work permits are required for players outside the EEA.

The player in question needs to have played in a certain percentage of their nation's first team games that they were available for selection over the previous 2 years (12 months if the player is 21 or under). The percentage required changes based on the nation's FIFA Ranking as follows:

Rank 1-10 need to have played 30% of games.
Rank 11-20 need to have played 45% of games.
Rank 21 need to have played 60% of games.
Rank 31-50 need to have played 75% of games.

Players that fail this can still get a work permit on appeal provided they accumulate 4 points from the following criteria:
3pts - The value of the transfer fee being paid for the player is in the top 25% of all transfers to Premier League clubs in the previous 2 windows.

3pts - The wages being paid to the player by the applicant club is in the top 25% of the top 30 earners at the club.

2pts - The value of the transfer fee being paid for the player is between the 50th and 75th % of all transfers to Premier League clubs in the previous 2 windows.

2pts - The wages being paid to the player by the applicant club are between the 50th and 75th % of all the top 30 earners at the club.

1pts - The players current club is in a 'Top League' and the player has played at least 30% of available domestic league mins.

1pts - The player’s current club has played in the group stages or onwards of the Champions League, Europa League or the Copa Libertadores within the last 12 months and the player has played in 30% or more of the available domestic league minutes.

If the player fails to get 4 points, there is a secondary criteria (basically a relaxed version of the first critera) they can get additional points from but the required number of points raises to 5. Each criteria in this section only gives 1 point each.

So based on all of that, I don't see how he qualifies unless he is currently on 3 points based on his wages, which seems unlikely. He may have 2 points. I doubt Cyprus counts as a top league.

If this is accurate (probably not) then he'd need to be on about £90k/week to qualify for 3 points based on his wages. Obviously the only way he'd get that sort of money is if he proved himself over a number of seasons here.
