Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne is a fully qualified, FBI trained Police/ Hostage Negotiator. The former professional footballer is known to favour a 'softly, softly' approach and will often turn up inibriated and tell his 'mark' "I'm yer best fookin' mate man ye knaaa"
'Gazza' often goes accompanied with home comforts such as Chicken, Lager, Dressing gowns and Sporting equipment in an attempt to placate his target.
As of 10th July 2010 he has a 100% record in that all of his 'marks' have topped themselves.

Arthur Ridley, who played Private Godfrey in Dad's Army, saw active service with the Somerset Light Infantry in World War 1 including fighting on the Somme where his left arm was badly damaged. He also received serious injuries to his legs and suffered blackouts throughout his life because of a blow to the head from a German rifle butt. He was also recommended for a Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery. He rejoined the Army for World War 2 and was made a Major and saw active service with the British Expeditionary Force in France at the beginning of the war before being discharged because of the legacy of his wounds.

You wouldn't expect that from the old fella in Dad's Army, would you?

that's brilliant that.

In Japan they have square watermelons.

They get square watermelons by growing them inside of square glass cases. That way they can fit easily into a refrigerator, and you can stack things on them.

Shakira's catchy African-themed World Cup song came up in another thread...

It's a straight lift from a Camaroonian recording by Golden Sounds, a song called Zangalewa (1986), which was drawn from a song in slang used in the military.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamina_mina_(Zangalewa)

Golden Sounds - Zangaléwa (the Waka Waka section which Shakira lifted is @ 7min 27sec)
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/LHV7gmT5m8I&amp;amp;hl=en_GB&amp;amp;fs=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/LHV7gmT5m8I&amp;amp;hl=en_GB&amp;amp;fs=1</a>

That was a hit in 1987-88 particularly in Caribbean Colombia, Barranquilla and Cartagena, where Shakira is from.  There's a deeply awful, yet compelling, version by Las Chicas del Can - El Negro No Puede (trans. The Black Man Can't?).

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/aBCmbchNqRI&amp;amp;hl=en_GB&amp;amp;fs=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/aBCmbchNqRI&amp;amp;hl=en_GB&amp;amp;fs=1</a>

Colombian music is deeply influenced by African music historically and always remained open to it. e.g cumbia.

The old adage about losing anything up to 90% of your body heat through your head is a myth.

It comes about from a US Army study into Arctic uniforms shortly after World War 2 - they noticed that in trials in Norway/Canada/Alaska/Greenland (I'm not sure where they were) that soldiers lost a great deal of heat from their uncovered heads. Except of course that those troops were wearing Arctic uniforms which stopped heat loss from the rest of the bodies.

You lose just as much heat from any other uncovered part of your body as you do from your head.

1). That's probably not true.

It's hard to come up with any kind of definite figure, and it depends how far back you count humans being around. But most estimates have the number of dead as being 60-120 Billion - significantly more than the current number alive today.

Your 2nd one is more or less true, though there should technically be a "probably" in there, as you can only talk in terms of averages/probability. Most estimates have it that on average you'd inhale 1-2 molecules from Caesar's last breath per breath.

Wierd isn't it. I'm left wondering about the distortion in population totals from say 1 million years ago to 200 years ago vs average lifespans throughout that period. An accuarate figure would be interesting. The question should be 'When did the total dead overtake the total living?'.

Since we're on a bit pf an egg theme .

If you insert a fresh egg in your mouth , and walk across the Sahara Desert from Tripoli to Algiers , by the time you finish the walk the egg will be hard boiled .

This is actually true - did it a couple of years ago.
