I didnt drink for about 4 years, drink now and again now, but only say a few bottles of cider or similar. think i've been drunk once in the past few years..it wasnt from much alcohol and i had such a horrid hangover the next day its put me off drinking.

I dont have any ale in the house and only drink when i'm going out to a mates or something.

Honestly dont know how people go out and get really pissed once or twice or even more times a week, firstly the cost and secondly how they dont feel and look like complete shit all the time??

I'm pleased to see this thread. I rarely drink and don't understand the whole drink culture. Like the original poster I'm sick of having to justify why I'm not drinking. At university, I was excluded from most things because I didn't drink. People would sit me down and ask me why, was it a religious thing? No - I don't like the taste, I don't like how it makes me feel, makes me tired, I can't handle it, waste of money.

Why do people equate not drinking with not wanting to have fun?

I want to have as much fun as the next person but I don't need drink to do it. I'm immature as fuck

Last weekend I went to a gig at Slane Castle. Before we got into the town, the Gardai were checking people and taking the drink of them. This led to hundreds of people standing about beating the drink into them. People were lying in ditches, vomiting - the works. Why the fuck for? It was if people hadn't been let out before. I just don't understand.

On another note I like my hardcore techno. Yet again people ask me - how can you go and dance about to that without drink or even a cheeky E tablet. Can people not enjoy themselves without drink or drugs?

When ever I go to trance gigs I might have 3-4 bottles and thats it and no drugs, they are a lot better sober than off your face...Just my two cents

One of my mates doesn't drink but he is an annoying c*nt about it.

Always bringing it up when we're out and basically waffling on and on.

He's the sort of tit that tuts when someone gets a round in.

If there's one thing I hate it is people who get on their high horse.

My two cents.....being off your face (well dropping 2 or 3 proper 'e') at a trance night is fucking great. Loads better than being stone cold sober.

When I was 13 I got a job as a glass collector (and I was fucking great at it) at the local Social Club so I would be working almost every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings while my friends were out getting pissed on cheap cider. I would have the odd sly drink at the end of a shift. Being around drunk people kinda put me off drinking too much. I then had several jobs working in different clubs and then ended up at a squash/club wine working full time - it was my future in-laws place so I was there all the time.

Drunk loads most nights and then suddenly after one New Year's Eve me and the missus both just stopped drinking and 20 odd years later have hardly touched a drop since.
It does get tiring trying to explaining to people why I don't drink as they seem incapable of understanding that I don't need to drink...mind you with all my current medication it probably would be a very bad idea anyway....

After going sober through my own wedding day (without even thinking about a drink once), I've safely concluded that sometimes in the last two years I became a non drinker.
Never really thought about it, I wanted to and did quit smoking, but drinking just happened on it's own.

being an alchoholic and having a baby dont go together either

life as a non drinker is BOLLOX

its utterley funless

beer and football go together
beer and mates go together

each to his own and that but I dont recommend being a non drinker

life s so much more fun as a drinker

After a lost weekend on coke and 17 double whiskey and cokes (in one night and not drunk) I haven't touched alcohol in over 13 years. Also packed in all drugs and stimulants like caffeine at that time too.

I don't miss any of it.

I don't understand how anyone would welcome a hangover either.
Mindless.

As I currently live in SE Asia, I have found telling females I don't drink is seen as a big positive.

When out with friends who do drink there is never a problem, but I usually sneak away when they are pissed and start talking bollocks.
Pointless me being there at that stage.

If anyone does ever say anything I think of my coke and drink imbued days and chuckle to myself at their silly attempts at using terms like lightweight.
But that is very rare.....

Recently given up the bugle etc and am glad I did, what a fucking expensive night it makes when you crack that stuff out.
