I know it wouldn't be so bad if it was just another fucking rag but this is on CBS for fucks sake.

I saw it on Yahoo as an AP article. It made me see red with rage. Fucker. Here's a link and the supposed journalist's name.

CBS will have to do then along with our new owners pointing out to them that there own media is printing untruths, infact that may be the best way to go as i am sure Hicks would push for a front page retraction or force them to print a story about that sad day.

How staged do the Bellamy/Riise photos look???

Pathetic indeed. Be better to just let them appear naturally

Personally, I'd love to see Craig Douglas Bellamy score on Wednesday followed by a celebration of taking a swing with an 'invisible' golf club.

The Hillsborough part is removed from this link. Apparently the story was "Updated on Monday, Feb 19, 2007 4:17 pm EST".

Will they bother issuing a correction? Doubt it.

For those who missed it

And they shouldn't, because soccer -- and Liverpool -- has had an ugly enough past when it comes to violence.

At the 1985 European Cup final at the Heysel stadium in Brussels, 39 people were killed when Liverpool fans charged their Juventus counterparts and a stadium wall collapsed.

Four years later, 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death at the FA Cup semifinal match against Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium.

Total, utter, storm in a teacup  ::)

Think we all know Bellamy is a bit of a twat...but sometimes we just have to take the rough with the smooth with his character type. Would say he will probably start on Wednesday

As for him leaving in the summer...maybe, but only if we are able to bring in a top class replacement and if we do, Crouch may be the more likely to depart. Rafa is used to dealing with little scrotes I reckon and bellamy's on field behaviour is slowly improving. He will always be a bit of a prick and will as a result be a marked man in the media but he never stops running and cant be faulted for on field effort. Doubt this incident is nearly as serious as it is made out, sounds like a mates row which people probably dont remember in the morning hangover

The Dudek episode to me sounds hilarious if true. Must have been off his tits  ;D

He'll make Riise an offer he can't refuse? Seems Bellamy has already been watching Robert De Niro in The Untouchables.

Taken from another forum, hats off to 'Singlerider'

To the tune of Yesterday

Bell-a-my
Has a penchant for kar-aok-e
He said to Riise "sing along with me"
But ol' Johnny
Refused you see

So Bell-a-my
Broke into his room at half past three
With a putter made by Odyssey
And tried to make
A two-ball, three

Why John would not sing I don't know, he wouldn't say,
May-be, his voice is crap, or perhaps he thinks it's ga-a-a-ay

The AP story is syndicated across the world to hundreds of media outlets - the good news is almost every report I've rechecked since around 7pm this evening when I sent in a correction had been updated and the Hillsborough reference removed.

Here's the email I sent them:

To whom it may concern,

I was just reading the report "Liverpool's Bellamy takes soccer violence in a new direction" which has the byline AP News, The Associated Press News Service and appears on CBSsportsline.com as well as many other syndicated news services. Within the article your reporter says:

"... Liverpool -- has had an ugly enough past when it comes to violence.

Hooliganism in soccer hasn't been confined to just Liverpool, of course."

The Hillsborough Disaster had absolutely nothing to do with violence or hooliganism as was clearly demonstrated in the Governmental enquiries at the time (see the Lord Justice Taylor Report for further information). It was a tragic accident caused by a series of factors on the day. Your report suggests the opposite.

Could you correct this as soon as possible as it will cause distress to the families of the 96 supporters who tragically died that day, and to the hundreds of supporters injured in the incident.

Thank you

Read this article at 5am this morning and it really made me feel sick - was just about to post about it when I found this thread and the fantasic job you have done chasing this up - well done!

Unfortunately the unedited version of this article is still appearing on the Nintendo Wii's news channel. Maybe someone a little more resourceful than me can figure out how to get this one updated.

Bellamy's days are numbered....which I was hoping since the day he signed for us.  If only brain transplant was a common thing...could have put a bit of Dirk's inside Bellamy.

Anyway...now watching him scoring against Barca and i'll be eating my humble pies on thursday morning.

A question for you all...

Ian Rush scored 49 goals in all competitions (plus a penalty in the european cup fnal) in 1983/84.

The summer before, he was in a huge fist fight, in the middle of the street, in IIRC Greece, with several of his teammates (including Alan Kennedy and Ronnie Whelan). The fight had to be broken up by Mr Smith ans Moss, directors of the club, who were then drunkenly abused by all the players. When called up before Bob Paisely the next day, they all (sporting black eyes, cuts and bruises) denied they had been fighting, and, still a bit drunk, laughed in the managers face.

Should he have been sacked and ran out of the club?

It's not really a direct comparison - Bellamy has a track record, whereas Rushie didn't...

But I'm sure if they'd done it to Sir Bob again, he wouldn't have been afraid to make changes.

It wasn't Rushes first incident either.

And the situation is no different now - footballers are still young, generally badly educated and stupid, lads. They are generally responsible enough to behave, but, occasionally, on a free week, will have a drink and get a bit rowdy.

You send any group of 30 young guys off on holiday together, two of them will fall out, most of them will get drunk.

You put any group of 30 people together, some of them aren't going to like each other.

It's always been the way.

Fights between team mates are nothing new by a long shot, and they will always happen - they always have. The only difference here is that it got leaked to the press...

And if it was Riise who leaked it - it would be him I would want out of the club, not bellamy...

28 years old guys arent "young" and Bellamy has a more agressive record than Rush.  Fights are usually punch ups but nothing in the scale of trying to hit a collegue's legs with a gold club.  I wonder what would be the response if Cisse or any other johnny foreigner would have done that!

Bellamy may be an alright footballer but he isnt showing signs that he is trying to change his notorious manners.

A lot of  holier than thou, angelic, cherubic whiter than white people visit this forum - do they not?

I mean some of the people on here talk as if they've never had a piss up, a bit of a scrap, or gotten into any kind of trouble without setting out to do so.

The unspoken, underlying judgement here, is that "they're paid X amount and should know better" - as if money is some kind of moral compass.

Absolute crap.  Get off your high horse, and move on.

With the reports now circulating of any number between about 5 and 15 players being fined, I wondered if anyone knows where the money taken from the players goes. Does the club keep it? Does it go to charity? Presumably a pot for the next staff party would not be appropriate. If as many as 15 players were to be fined a couple of weeks' wages, there could be over a million in the pot.

(When I first typed this, I put a couple of weeks' wags. Thinking about it, would that be a better punishment?)
