Basically stopped running once he saw he wasn't getting subbed.
Yes, cos the boss told him to ...

"be careful of media, they can make you hate the oppressed and love the oppressors." - Malcolm X

The notion that an Occupier is defending itself is as absurd as the notion that the rapist is defending itself from the victim.

"I told him not to defend anymore – I don’t think I ever said that to a player. By the way, Mo, that’s different on Sunday!" Mo took it easy as instructed.

I hope the unplanned extra 20 minutes walking around on the field doesn't take it out of him. ;D

What a record eh?

Mohamed Salah has become the first Liverpool player to score 20+ goals in seven consecutive seasons in a row.

The 31-year-old’s record for the season now sits at 20 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

It is the seventh season in a row that Salah has scored at least 20 goals for the Reds. No other Liverpool player has ever managed that feat.

The previous record was held by former forward Ian Rush, who scored 20+ goals in six consecutive campaigns between the 1981-82 and 1986-87 campaigns.

In the time he's been here he's scored at least 20 goals a season, in the time he's been here Everton haven't had 1 player to reach 20 goals in a season...

So in a game where he spent a period walking around in cotton wool,  did Mo just quietly bag a goal and a hattrick of assists?

Not at all. Thought, if we could get 15-ish goals from that would be a good return. Amazing thing is that he's not just a goal scorer either, he's a brilliant playmaker as well.

Not even close. Optimistically you were hoping Torres or Sturbridge levels.

But he’s our top 5 players ever.

I'm not just saying it because he had the wrist strap on but it's almost like we have Luis Suarez on the wing without all the nutmegs. He's had to adapt his game from being one of the paciest wingers in Europe and he still kind of has it, but he is playmaking on a whole new level as well as having the goals.

I really hope he is offered a contract extension by a couple of years. He has all of the ingredients to still be dictating games for the next 2-3 years at least.

He really is that good, and seeing him back in the team after an absence has really made me appreciate that more.

He was poor today there's no shame admitting that but he's got the goal so there's that.

I don’t believe they are exempt, more they are allowed to break fast during a game if that’s when it should be.

Saudi are not spending this summer.

The World Cup bid is all but done and their average attendances are down a lot this year.

Not sure why that would in any way affect them buying Salah. He is not in category of other players, them going for him is not football related, it's a political decision, it's like they are buying a state-holiday. Also if they want to turn around those attendance numbers and build up towards the World Cup - getting Salah would be one way of doing it.

They are limited by the foreigner rule and last season was their big season.  For some PIF-owned clubs, it's one in one out.

Seko Fofana had to leave Al Nassr on loan because of this. They are limited by this rule and they can't easily shift players on inflated wages (except players like Hendo that take a paycut).

I doubt the rule will change much because they want a competitive team for the 2034 World Cup. However, for the biggest stars like Mo and Ronaldo,  it wouldn't be a limiting factor (Aboubakar moved on to accommodate Ronaldo). This is because those players are not really sporting signings.

Ultimately,  it will come down to Mo himself.

They've recently announced that they're changing the foreign player rule.

Ten allowed in the squad, eight of them on the pitch at any one time, with two of them having to be born after 2003.

It doesn't change much because young players are not likely to go there. It's like a Quansah going to Saudi.

If the Saudis are looking to spend a bit more sensibly, I agree that it won’t affect the desire for them to have Mo Salah playing there as a crown jewel. The main thing that would stop Mo from going is his age and playing level. He still has much more to give at a much higher level than Saudi Arabia.

Ideally he signs a 1-2 year extension, plays under the new manager, retains transfer value for us by being protected by his contract, and then assesses his playing options down the line. He still has plenty to give, and is our most reliable source of goals, as 7 seasons with 20+ goals shows.

On his day, he would have had a hat-trick of goals and hat-trick of assists. The one that he didn't square to Nunez and later on to Lucho on the counter were criminal decisions. And yet, what a game he had!
