I do not believe so... What pot does United go into if they win?

1 - Pot 1 is reserved for the winners of the 6 leagues with the highest UEFA Coefficient (England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Portugal) plus the winners of the Champions League and Europa League IF they haven't already won their respective league (if they have, 7th and 8th are Netherlands and then Russia).

2-0!
Nice with a win! We deserved it, but we are still some way short of where we want to be in terms of quality and performance. It’s almost as if missing a long line of CBs and Henderson has an impact... Now we need to build on this win and put some pressure on Leicester.

Equaliser was looking as inevitable as it did against Newcastle and then Thiago slotted a lovely finish into the corner. Nowhere near a vintage display but got the right result. Phillips and Ali were good, still wasteful with chances and the whole second half was pretty ponderous and laboured.

Nice to get the win, cant ask for too much more than that tonight. Will need to be better against the mancs though imo. It's a little frustrating when we get 2 thirds up the pitch that we let the opposition reset their defence and knock it back to our centre halves to start again.

Good to get a bit of luck for a change.

Our fitness levels are concerning.

Big drop off at 70 mins. Need to improve to win the last 4 games

Something not right with the training this season, when you throw all the injuries into the mix. A few more injuries picked up in training this week, despite no game.

It's the reality of an abnormal season, but it doesn't bode well for 3 away games in 6 days.

I'm not disagreeing with what you are saying but I'd rather Fabinho play midfield and risk it with them two than play centre back and have zero protection in midfield and a sub par midfielder coming in given our current options..

We had zero protection from mf this match, and that was against Southampton!

Huge relief really.
Played well enough to win but never comfortable, never in the control we have seen before. Some good performances from Trent and Phillips in particular.

Our press doesn't work as effectively, can't work out whether its because the forwards and midfield are just a little slower or if its because we are not as compact because the defence is deeper, or being shielded more but the midfield, but they played through us a little easily at times.

Oh and sod off Kevin Friend, I reckon if someone took a baseball bat to Mane in a game he still wouldn't give him a free kick. And how many times are players allowed to pull back our players? I counted at least 6-7 only 1 was booked and only 2-3 he gave as fouls.

Yeah, we always seemed more concerned about them scoring rather than trying to put the game to bed. Just a lack of confidence in the side still.

A good result against the mancs might change that. So much riding on that game now.

Whereas Tella, Redmond and the rest were diving around.
Tbf he did spot some of the dives but waved play on.

Yep, when you factor in the massive amount of injuries we have then you’re extra happy with the win. Think we’re all in agreement that we’ll take 4 more wins under any circumstances, just need to keep winning.

about time we started winning while being shite again - the fucking Mancs have been doing it all season

Definitely, but I wouldn't say we were poor per se. We played well in patches, should have scored several in the first half alone, restricted Southampton to scraps in the second half. That's a far cry from those run of 1-0 home game abominations.

We do look like a patched up team with confidence and fitness issues though.

Struggled to enjoy that when 1-1 felt inevitable. Pure relief rather than elation when the 2nd went in. Kabak is badly needed for the remaining games.

Glad to get the three points. Great result when you consider the defence was changed again.
Performance was ok. Thought Gini was better than he has been recently.
Salah looks short on confidence.

The performance was not great, but got the job done which is nice for a change.

We start well and then miss a few chances, then get nervy in the second half when the second goal does not come. Need to change this and go for the kill in games vs Burnley, WBA and Palace.

We had zero protection from mf this match, and that was against Southampton!

I think we did. I mean alot of the issues stem from our full backs pushing up and then balls getting played down the sides of the centre backs, no defensive midfielder can stop that and fabinho would get done just the same at centre back than Rhys or Nat. There were a lot of times tonight where positionally Fabinho would be where you want him to be. What's Fabinho gonna do at centre back, push up and catch players offside?  The only thing he is good at from centre back is standing his man up and making the challenge head on, but anything over the top, any positionally play he's bang average, he's not quick, he isn't on the same wavelength as the other centre backs. He's had like two or three good games at centre back, it's not enough for me to justify him playing there even with very few options unless we have the luxury of playing someone else in midfield who can do a better job than him.

about time we started winning while being shite again - the fucking Mancs have been doing it all season

This is all that matters.

Having said that, we weren't completely shite. A little lacking in confidence, yes, and Southampton did put up a good fight and made us work for it. Nothing wrong with that at all though. A fully fit first team would have steamrollered them; that we did it with our 20th centre-back pairing of the season, who have less than 20 PL starts between them, and a midfield with one lad who has one foot out of the door and our captain missing, is a pretty decent achievement. Perspective is important. To still be in the running for a CL spot with the shit we've had to put up with this season is good going. Ali gets the MOTM and rightly so, but Nat and Rhys should be really proud of what they did tonight. Up the fucking reds, bring on those hairy palmed six-fingered knuckle draggers.

We’re obviously tired and lack confidence. We were trying to protect the lead rather than trying to score the 2nd.......it was a relief when we did. Hopefully we find our fitness and confidence during the Utd game.

We had zero protection from mf this match, and that was against Southampton!

The midfield can't offer protection when one long ball causes our defence so much trouble. The one at the end when Alisson bailed out Nat was unreal. Nat had dropped four or five yards and then was five yards behind Obafemi when Ali intervened.

The difference when Fabinho plays centre back is that he has the experience to read the game.
