Henderson in particular stunk the gaff out (after Milner went off because he was even worse).

It’s going to be a long month. A game that showed how desperately this squad needs refreshing with investment.

Considering the games we’ve had against the likes of Northampton, Oldham and Havant and Waterlooville I don’t think this is THAT bad.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Toothless, we really never looked like scoring.

Slow, ponderous play and endless sideways passing until moves inevitably fizzled out to nothing. Squandered our home advantage and now have to go the Emirates and win, which we're perfectly capable of. We'll have to be better than that though.

We went to shit at Christmas last season as well. Covid has clearly disrupted things, losing Thiago and now Afcon.

I'm not a huge fan of Chamberlain, but for all his faults, he would have more to offer in a game like that than any of the starting midfield.

He isnt good enough. Some of his decision making when he arrived was mad.

Not looking forward to Brentford after that performance. Huge drop in craft and creativity which was to be expected but may be not to the level of that game we've just witnessed.

Who played well?

Neco our best player perhaps?
Jones was aggressive anyway.
Matip had some creative moments, but his one shot sort of makes it clear why he doesn't usually pull the trigger during his wandering runs forward.

The team lacked any brain. So many row zedders from 30/40 yards out.

Jones was an improvement but needed to come on much earlier.

Would've been interesting to have seen a switch between Milner and Trent when Xhaka was sent off, we had no precision or control in central areas in their half.

Decent training exercise but we took too many kicks for my liking.

Looked more dangerous when Neco came on, also thought Jones was an improvement as well.

But….. what an opportunity missed, our final third was shite. Robbo needs dropped and a rest, think he landed 2 decent balls, the rest were shite. 92min corner and all you have to do is beat the first man Robbo ffs. Won’t even mention Taki’s miss  :o

Shows how much we rely on Salah and Mane, just a shite performance all around. One or two signings would make a huge difference but we ought to wait for summer (with any luck).

We didn't seem to be interested in getting to the byline and crossing at all, Trent wandering towards the edge of the D time and again. Neco had the right idea and we looked better with him on. all very narrow.

Got what we deserved, fuck all. Nobody comes out of that with credit any including Klopp, why Henderson and Milner started that second half is beyond me.  We haven’t got the squad to play our normal formation when Salah and Mane are out.

Should probably play 4-2-3-1 until they come back.

Alisson

Robertson
Matip
Van Dijk
Alexander-Arnold

Henderson
Fabinho

Jones
Firmino
Oxlaide-Chamberlain

Jota

Still think we’ll get through, but the tie should of been over tonight.

Jones and Williams caused all kind of problems for them. They got it out wide and were direct and got the ball in to make them defend. Henderson, Milner, Robertson and TAA were too slow on the ball.
yep thought Neco and Curtis were very good when they came on and Matip excellent again, Ali did all he could, the rest though were disappointing, ah well still in it
However if something serious happens to them I will eat my own cock.

That was the most frustrating I've seen us play this season. Yes, we are missing a couple of our forwards, but what happened to the overall play? Both full-backs couldn't send in a decent cross, absolutely terrible corners, none of the through-balls or one-twos near/in the box found their man and then what's with us missing sitters in tight games - Salah at Brentford, Salah and Mane against Leicester, Jota against Wolves and Minamino tonight.

At least Alisson made the save, so we still have some hopes. But it's going to be harder at the Emirates.

Trent having an off night is understandable as he's just back from illness. Unfortunately Robbo was really poor too, and with Salah and Mane out we're going to struggle. Jordan and Fabinho both look really slow, we hardly pick up a thing in midfield and move the ball too slowly. Jones should have been on from half-time really. Some really strange decision making at times A real off day for the whole team.

Well that was absolutely abysmal, and a potential preview of the pain we're about to experience going forward.

Short term? AFCON.

Long term? Massive rebuild required in the midfield.
