Damnit. I was all ready to do the draft and then had to leave my desk while it was happening. I didn't have much set on my player rankings either so of course I end up with Vanderjagt as my kicker. Dropped that sucker like a hot-potato. All in all a decent team though, should be fun.

Out of interest I assume its nearly impossible to get face value tickets for games, was potentially going to be over later in the year and wouldn't have minded catching a Giants game, well until I saw the prices on ebay anyway

Great team I got: top heavy with Steelers and then there's Reggie Bush! Shocked I got him, actually, but we'll see how he does.
As for the rest of my team: didn't realize I hadn't dropped Koren Robinson, and he ended up on my team. Waived his butt. Now awaiting my proposed addition.

Oh *&%$. Steve Foley, one of our (Chargers) starting linebackers was shot several times by an off-duty cop.

A San Diego Charger was shot Sunday morning by an off duty police officer. It happened around 3:30 Sunday morning..when an off duty Coronado police officer started following a man who was driving erratically. Police say the driver is Chargers linebacker Steve Foley.
The officer identified himself several times as a police officer, but Foley would not pull over. Foley then drove to his own neighborhood in Poway where he got out of the car and his girlfriend got behind the wheel. Police say Foley came at the officer who fired a warning shot. The woman then drove the car at the officer. The officer fired into the car, then shot Foley. But police say Foley kept coming, and the off duty officer shot him several more times. Foley was taken to Sharp Hospital for surgery. The woman was taken into custody. No charges have been filed yet. Steve Foley was arrested back in April for battery on a police officer and public drunkeness.

And here I was coming in to lament the loss of my starting QB because of an emergency appendectomy. And one of my starting WRs (Hines Ward) is going to miss the opener, too.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger underwent an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy on Sunday and is resting comfortably in the hospital after an "uneventful" surgery.

Roethlisberger arrived at the team's practice facility on Sunday morning, was feeling ill and was sent to see the team doctors, who performed the surgery.

"The surgery went well," said head coach Bill Cowher. "He is obviously going to be out this week and we will go week-to-week from there."

Charlie Batch will start on Thursday in the team's season opener against the Miami Dolphins at Heinz Field.

"This is why Charlie is here," said Cowher. "We will rally behind him. Everybody else will do so as well. Charlie is fine.

"It's a situation that can happen to any football team. You can go out there and have a starter go down, whether it's an ankle or something of that nature. That's the nature of this business.

"Adversity is not what knocks you down; it is how you handle it and how you respond to it. This football team with its veterans has been down this road before, facing challenges and adversity."

The Steelers will bring in another quarterback, but it's uncertain if that player will serve as a back-up to Batch or be placed on the practice squad. The Steelers re-signed rookie quarterback Omar Jacobs to the practice squad on Sunday.

"I am not going to elaborate at this point," said Cowher. "We will assess the back-up as the week goes on. That is the situation we are being dealt and we are not asking for any pity nor are we going to make any excuses. It's the hand we are dealt and we are going to get ourselves ready for Miami accordingly."

Honestly, I'm tired of all the love the Panthers get (though that might have something to do with living with a diehard Falcons fan). The only chance they have of getting to the playoffs is by having home field advantage going into the NFC Championship, and it's not going to happen, not with their division, and not with Seattle pretty much guaranteed 4-5 wins a year (they get to play the 49ers, the Cards, and the Rams twice a year. You could make the argument that they should and can come away with 6 wins right there.

The Panthers on the other hand have the Bucs, the Falcons twice... 4 games they could easily lose.

I'm not even going to comment on the Patriots, as I'm way too biased where they're concerned.

AFC

* COLTS
* BRONCOS

NFC

* COWBOYS
* PANTHERS
* BEARS

* SEAHAWKS

Nothing too inspirational there but I feel most divisions pick themselves (Seahawks, Bears, Colts) Also had a few quid on Brady for MVP.

Can't wait for Thursday's game to see how good Miami really are with Culpepper and then Sky have Carolina/Atlanta and Dallas/Jacksonville on Sunday.

Remember it starts at midnight this week due to the double-header in the states.

You've got to be kidding me!! Saban had all the time in the world to throw the flag. It was obvious from the first replay - the officials even delayed setting up the extra point as they were expecting a flag. Looked more like he couldn't make his mind up. No way you can try to throw it a judges back that late.

The bottom line is that Saban and his coaching staff are to blame. You can throw it at the ref's head legally to get his attention, you can even storm the pitch and throw it at the myopic fucker. How on earth it took the coaches upstairs that long to tell him though is the real mystery.

Anyway, thought Miami had a lot of good things to take with them and should keep improving as the season progresses.

And best of all I had Brown in the Fantasy so a nice 14 points.

Only annoying thing is I paid up for the audio version last week! Will be watching Bears - Packers this week now for £14.

The whole season is £140 but games live on Sky/Channel 5 are prohibited, so if you follow one of the hot teams it might pay to go weekly and pick and choose games.

I have to agree. We won't be playing the Steelers D every week & the offensive continuity can only improve; there were even signs of a running game 2nd half.

Thought the turning point was the two penalties deep in PS territory when we would have forced them to punt. Things just turned a little sour 4th quarter, but reason for optimism.
