When we win the league with 3 games to spare hes moving straight up to striker and the teams entire purpose will be to feed him a goal.

its just the right thing to do   ;D
Let him take a peno. :)

If he is the centre back at the weekend then he has previous of being outstanding against City. He was man of the match last season in this fixture. The downside is I wanted him at left back to stop Foden.

Weirdly his best performances have been at left back, when he’s right back he like Robbo gets caught out of position a fair bit.

He's probably nailed for another best performance then. I think Joe will start as a LB against City, Bradley in RB, with VVD and Konate/Quansah. There isn't much of variation of our back line at the moment...

Those brain farts he used to be prone to have been fewer and further apart this season, whichever position he plays in. That said, I wonder if being played in an unfamiliar/unnatural position helps sharpen his focus on the job in hand - extra pressure can have that effect on some people.

In any case, he has been simply immense all season. Absolute superstar of a player

Where does Joe start tomorrow, still a bit worried about Robbo and his running off on his own. Assuming Konate is fit, who gets the left back slot in the team?

I'm hopeful that Southgate is that idiot. I want Joe, Trent and Curtis no where near that neanderthal. Let them go rest in the Maldives or wherever they want that doesn't have them near the England squad.
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

Not necessarily a bad thing. I think a full two week break isn't good for the rhytum, so it's good to see our players get minutes but not completely flogged.

Gomez surely gets called up again. The one thing that goes against him is he hasn't really played a CB this season for us, but he's shown he can play right across the backline and England have problems at left back, so he's going to have to get a look in surely.

Trent on the bench watching the likes of Henderson, Phillips and Gallagher run around like headless chickens.

Based on where he's been primarily playing this season, Gomez should be England's starting LB this summer. His performances have eclipsed Shaw's and Chilwell's by a considerable distance.

Both Trent and Gomez are better CMs than the current Henderson.

Picked up an ACL knee injury with England years ago which stalled his progress here. He's done really well to come back to form so if it was me I would reject them.

Nice for him considering he hasn't been selected since 2020 but simultaneously quite disappointing from our perspective. I do think they'll need him if they want to win the Euros though, they have nothing proven at centre half other than himself and Stones.

I wonder if he considers Elliott for the summer. He has that sort of quality and energy which could prove massive during a short tournament at the end of a season.

No he didn't. He did his ACL here with us. He snapped his patella tendon away with England and that is a bad one to come back from. Mad he's had 3 serious, career ending injuries and yet here he is, one of the best and most versatile defenders in the world. Still only 26 as well so has only just started to hit his peak

Don't give a shit about England but very pleased for Joe, of course - it's more than deserved and we know it means a lot to the players.

Dread what could happen though...

Based on the performances of Shaw and Chilwell this season, it's absolutely clear that Gomez has been England's best LB this season and should be involved with England in the summer.

A real shame that Southgate seems to have noticed this. Hopefully it's the only thing he notices; would prefer the coin doesn't drop for him on how Jones and Elliott have also outperformed the majority of English players this season.

No fan of England but I’m sure he’ll be chuffed with that as he’s mentioned in the past that getting back into the England squad is an aim of his, and his last big injury was whilst on England duty (as was his ACL), so it’s a bit of a full circle thing. Let’s just hope they don’t break him again.

I'd prefer it not to be but then I would think Joe would want it so happy for him. He deserves it as he has been fantastic this season (you could argue our most important player in some respects). It looked like he was getting less and less game time and getting rusty, he's probably having too much game time now and I think that will make him a lot happier.

Still only 26, been with us for 9 years now and only cost £3.5m. 4 more games and this will be his busiest season (international injuries and crossed fingers hoping), 236 games for us, 6 trophies, who cares about goals.
