They scrabbled hard in the first half, I was getting increasingly annoyed at the gonk in black who was more of a WWF referee than PL standard. His inconsistency was ridiculous and allowed them to break up our movement by grabbing and holding (similar to Arsenal last week) the foul on Jota by Brownhill was dismissed on my feed as an unlucky challenge.over th ball and right down the full length of the shin. However we kept plugging away and got some reward in the second half.
Nunez was always a threat and they were hanging on to him even in the penalty area. Endo played some very nice passes to split their defence and looked better as the game progressed. How that prick of a ref booked Nunez and let their players to kick it away was beyond me. He even allowed that sub with the Afro hair to try three times to block a quick free kick. Shite.
Nunez header was even better when you consider he was slightly behind the ball. Thought  Jones had a very good first half and adapted well to playing right back. Kelleher did very well in goals to snuff out their chances.
All in all a good response.
Just so annoying when a ref is so erratic.
Let’s be honest I was surprised he allowed the second goal considering Macca kicked their lad.

Anyway here we are struggling away at the top of the league.

Elliot ran the second half, certainly made the point it was a mistake not starting him

Name me a better group of right backs than TAA, Bradley, Gomez, Jones, Bajcetic.

Injury updates/flu news in the next week will be huge for the next few games of our season, and our effort to maintain a lead in the title chase and to pick up a cup

To criticise the performance today without acknowledging the depletion of the squad requires such a strange mindset. Some people just relish misery. Seriously undercooked squad today, major injury/illness issues and we've got a win to put us back on top of the league. Lovely stuff.
If we score two unanswered goals it's game over. It sounded like we played with a lack of urgency at times.

We just tend to start games slowly. It's not something new this season.

Don't know what people expected in the circumstances. Was always going to be disjointed today.

We were playing a Championship side at home which was enough for us to get the result without needing to massively up the gears and they were going to raise their game.

The first half reminded me of quite a few games over the years against lower league opposition in cup competitions, where they literally chuck everything they have at us. Burnley have no place in the PL at this moment, but credit where it's due, they did their best to make it awkward for us. I reckon they should stick with Kompany even when they inevitably drop down, at least they're playing a style that's more entertaining than the Brexit Ball of Dyche.

Good result, back top of trhe league. Why was Alison missing?Think the disruption of the Afcon and injuries has discombobulated the team a bit, think they will get back into the routine and get better over the next few weeks.

Ali has flu.

Nunez needs to stop picking up so many yellow cards……mostly for kicking the ball away. Sooner or later he may get a second.
feels inevitable that he's gonna earn himself a two game ban now - whats he on? Two away from the ban (with 8 games left) or something?

he needs to start to act more professionally and stop being coddled. could have got a second yellow for sarcastically clapping the ref and he could have no reasonable complaints if the ref decided to punish it.

Such an animal.
Yet the ref shit out of giving fouls on him because he had booked o Shea and Brownhill. And their no 20 committed 4 fouls that I counted without any comment.

That'll do. Another 3 points in the bag with squad stretched.

Good to have Endo back, played well.

Salah back next for the run in.

I think the ref was still dreaming of a day when he can officiate in the Super League, but the poor sausage has confused it with the Rugby Super League. All afternoon they were getting away with it, all over the pitch. You can guarantee though that the second one of our lads would have tried the same, peep peep, here's a card too. He actually started off alright as well, especially booking that lad for trying to be a smart arse and kick the second ball back on the pitch. So close, so so close.

How many yellows is he on ?

Not sure if this has been updated but he’s on at least 8. Two more and he picks up a 2 match suspension. Most of his yellows have been petty (kicking the ball away, dissent, etc).

Could he miss the final with another booking or two?

“A ban for picking up too many bookings must be served in the Premier League – and not in the FA Cup or League Cup.”

Some superb analysis over on RedCafe:

“ This Liverpool game is the answer to the question “why is klopp leaving now”?

It’s because his rebuild is average and he knows it.”

There's no reason to look at the match day or Liverpool threads. They always talk out of their asses in them. Their game threads are where it is at. When they are getting bent over by the likes of Forest, they let their true feelings be known. There is always a few in there calling their club a disgrace and praising us to the high heavens. Hardly anyone pushes back because they all know it is the truth.   ;D

It’s only PL.

But he needs to be available for City.
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.
