According to Shelvey, he is playing upfront:

“I supported West Ham as a boy so to play against them in any position is good for me,” he said. “It is not easy to fill the boots of a player like Luis. I will just give it my best shot.”

Listening to Sam going on about people thinking this should be quite straightforward seeing as they beat Chelsea and we don't have Suarez. Clearly he's trying to make sure there's no underestimation from their side, but that's usually easier said than done. Hopefully we can take advantage of this!

If that's true it's abit silly of him, why give West ham information about our gameplan that early  :butt

I'm pretty sure I saw BR also saying he will use Shelvey up front, and it's not like we are giving away top secret info since we have done it before when we didn't play suarez and both morgan and yesil played for reserves yesterday. Opposition managers aren't that stupid and are well updated on the injury/suspension front and options available

Anything more that 6m for Joe Allen and we have been ripped off.

Loads of Joe allens out there.

I would like to see him stay at Swansea myself and see if he can have another decent season. He is a championship player - players like a championship player.

To be honest, I think anyone could pretty much of guessed that one. It was either going to be him or Gerrard.

We haven't won back to back games for like, 2 years, as you all know. I expect us to continue with that trend.

1-1 or a West Ham win.

and trends or statistics never change? Cheer the fuck up lad.

We'll win this 0-1 or 0-2. We improved drastically defensively, and with 4 midfielders we should control the midfield nicely and run the game, chances will come and I can see us taking one or two of them and putting them in the net

That's the spirit.

Yesil played well for the u21's yesterday when he come on, I can't see it being long before he gets a chance for the big team. His goal yesterday was quite good but a bad bit of goal keeping for there man.

That's true. We could really bamboozle them with our star studded array of forwards.

I'd join the military right away if they still dressed like that. Them were the days.

They do, that's the king's troop, could have been taken last week. Albeit only on ceremonial occasions.

But anyway, most West ham fans aren't cockneys, they are flat cap wearing Range Rover driving Essex mockneys..... hate them.

I like West Ham fans - seem a decent bunch to me. Seen a few of them in town out and about having a laugh when we've played them.

True enough, sure it stood between Gerrard, Shelvey and one of our younger forwards to lead the line. But I still believe it's easier as a defender to prepare if you know for sure who'll you be defending against, strengths, weaknesses etc.

Yeah,I always enjoyed going to the Boleyn Ground-the Hammers fans that I've met seemed to be decent blokes without the sarcastic dislike of Liverpool that the supporters of other London teams seem to have.

fortunately we have a similar array of attacking talent in our midfield too.....I actually think if we manage to stock up the middle we may see sterling and Enrique profit, and ideally the lack of focus on Suarez will see more players popping up in striking positions....

Looking forward to this one as I'll be attending. Upton Park is a short journey for me, and my uncle has lent me his season ticket so I'll be in the Hammers end. At least Luis isn't playing so I won't get myself beaten up by cheering when we score, as we probably won't.
It's hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them.

If that's your attitude, lets hope we bang in a lot of goals... West Ham will look to 'mix' it and force us back with their quick, direct football. It's not pretty, but it's quite effective against certain teams. What we need to do is what we've been trying to do all season, keep the ball. The most composed performances v West Ham that I've seen this season are by sides who dominate possession, Swansea and Arsenal. We need to keep them chasing and tire Diame, Taylor and O'Neill out, as they'll bear the brunt of the midfield's defensive responsibility.

It's so important for us to keep good possession tomorrow. Otherwise they could overpower us, win the second balls and we won't be able to control. Really important we keep the ball, switch it and don't play too narrow to make it easier for them to close us down. Spread the width, move it from side to side and don't let them have the ball so they can play to their strengths.

We're not very good at keeping the ball if the opposition team want it. I won't like to see reina trying to be too cute on the ball in this one.

I'm not saying boot it out, but no dallying for keeping the ball's sake at the back.

I personally believe we will win comfortably. West Ham have already lost to Swansea, Arsenal and Wigan. Those are three of the more passing sides in the league and I fully expect that loosing trend to continue.

Sooner or later that will change. Why not on Sunday?

I've been saying this every week since fuck knows when.

1-1, the only way I see us getting a goal is from a corner - Why do people seem to be thinking the players will all of a sudden remember how to score when everyone but Suarez can't hit a barn door in the league.

Well, we haven't played without Luis in the league yet; and hopefully, we'll see the same thing as when Gerrard had been unavailable in the past- a [comfortable] win. Maybe... I'm just saying...

Yep, Skrtel or Agger. No matter what we do at the minute we can't muster a goal from open play really (without Suarez being involved)- I want it to change, it will change but I just can't see it this week against quite a strong defensive side when we're away from home. That said, I think Villa at home is when the floodgates will open.

Oh yeah that one from the 500 we've scored from open play this season. Tell you what I'll change my opinion to keep some of the deluded people on this forum happy:

Shelvey is going to score 10
We're going to win 400-0 with 399 goals coming from open play
After the 400-0 win we're going to win every game from then by at least 150 goals, this is our turning point!!!

This is all based on the fact we've played the best football in all the world this season and we've just been oh so unlucky against every single team we come up against.

I'd love us just to be brave and blood one of your young strikers from the start.
From the little i've seen and heard on Yesil he has enough talent to score against this lot.

Henderson Thursday night, Enrique V Wigan ?

Same argument as if you take Suarez out of our team where are we ? Media shite, we get another striker or someone else steps up is where, always have. Rush-Aldo-Fowler-Owen-Torres-Suarez every time we were in the mire, where were the goals coming from etc. etc

I really don't care if Suarez scores them all, or scores none and someone else scores all our goals for the rest of the season off their arse, as long as we win. In the 90th minute at 0-0 you'll take anything, fact.

You seem a little angry, it's just a discussion
A win for the Liverpool country

Henderson Thursday night, Enrique V Wigan ?

Same argument as if you take Suarez out of our team where are we ? Media shite, we get another striker or someone else steps up is where, always have. Rush-Aldo-Fowler-Owen-Torres-Suarez every time we were in the mire, where were the goals coming from etc. etc

I really don't care if Suarez scores them all, or scores none and someone else scores all our goals for the rest of the season off their arse, as long as we win. In the 90th minute at 0-0 you'll take anything, fact.

Or just think of the games where Suarez hasn't played, 2 goals from open play v West Brom, 5 goals v YB (4 from open play if I remember right), 1 goal v Udinese first half at home, 1 goal Gomel away, 1 goal v YB home......
