I think you guys may have found a flaw in my format! 

How about, instead of a knockout competition,  the top two teams in each group form an elite head to head league, and the two bottom teams form a 2nd tier h2h league?
I dont mind either way, but I may need some assistance as to when to reintroduce the bye teams.
My goal was to have as many head to heads as possible to add extra interest to the league.

The competition begins with wk11 fixtures so I have week to iron out the issues.

You've a few options really. 36 players makes it a bit more tricky though, just really depends how many head to head rounds you want to do.

Your idea isn't a bad one.

You could also have 6 groups of 6, the 6 group winners could go directly into the last 16 leaving 10 spots up for grabs.
The remaining 30 go into a 2nd group stage. 10 groups of 3 with the 10 group winners joining the 6 winners of the first group stage.

Cheers Barney, you have the experience of running this comp, so I will do the two league idea I came up with.

I was happy with the concept of my original plan but the implementation was flawed.

Looking forward to a full season of head to heads next year, but for now we have this and I'll do a fa cup style knock out comp in the new year.

To be honest, I liked your original idea, no problem with having 14 byes. Just say all group winners and the best five second placed players go through to the last 16, while the four worst second placed players go into an extra qualifying around. And the equivalent for the third and fourth placed players.

I think if you want 16 players left for the second knock out phase, you need need to give 14 byes and have the bottom four scores fight it out for the last two spots.

The other option is to have 16 qualify for the first knock out and drop the lowest two second placed teams into the second tier knock out to make a pool of 11.  Give byes to 5 and have the other 6 compete to make a final pool of 8.  You'll then have 9 in the bottom tier, so drop the lowest scorer from the pool to leave an 8 team knock out.

Personally, I'd go with the second option.

EuRawka League qualification is complete, the 4 lowest ranked teams are eliminated.
I will compile the new groups according to rankings and the competition will begin this weekend, gw 14.

Next season, the 20 teams in the prem will automatically qualify for this cup, with a knockout qualifying round for the championship teams to get the remaining entrants.

Yeah, when I'm compiling the results, I've noticed a couple of correct scores makes a big difference.
