The turf spend boys will be quiet tonight.

Thought pitches lasted around 10 years before they needed to be replaced.

The pitch seemed to be cut up in a few places today. Probably mostly where warm ups were done pre match and the goal mouth. Haven’t seen it like that in a while.

Did we get a new one laid last summer?

It also going to be hard fix the issues till the Manchester United Game. There 2 more games pretty much back to back. The Grounds Crew will do it best but to fix up some holes etc probably need more time then 2 days assuming the weather is good.

A good thing if we get an away Draw in the cup will be almost a month to improve the pitch, after West Ham and Inter, before Watford April 2nd.

Suggesting that the pitch is bad is a testament to the modern upkeep of top level grounds. Go back 20 years or so and it’s quite the sand pit.

It should settle down with the weather once out of winter. We've had constant strong winds for ages as well as the rain.

funny I always remember them kind of pitches being the early 90s or back in the 80s or further still

and around that time we always had the reputation for having one of the best pitches around.

Always think of it being good and that others think its good, though less than a minute in to that clip Alan Parry is joking about the state of it and rightly so

Presumably next summer we'll repeat what we did with the Main stand and knock down the Annie Road roof, so surely that means this summer is the perfect time to get those Desso grassmaster geeks in to give us a new pitch? I know this one's only 5 years old but it looks finished, spend whatever it costs.

But does the Anfield area have weather conditions that are worse than the rest of the country? It's been shite everywhere, and it currently looks like we're sharing a pitch with St Helens.

Yeah it was shocking tonight, looks like a suburban club's pitch with mud patches. We've only got one home game between now and the home derby on the 24th of April so I assume it will recover by then.

That was our 10th home game this calendar year. Our 5th in the last in the last 16 days. I’d be surprised if anyone else has played more in that time.

We should just dug up the good pieces on Goodison Park to repair our pitch since their players have been treading so softly on it in recent weeks.. Would be immaculate.

It was in good condition really when you take everything into account.

It's been so wet and cold recently that everywhere is waterlogged.  It's a bit better the last few days but my daily walks have been squelch fests for the past few weeks.  Anfield clearly drains better than your average council playing field but still playing five games in 16 days on wet ground is going to take its toll.

One thing I think we can be sure of is that the pitch maintenance is cutting edge.  If that's the best it could be then so be it.  I don't think we have another home game until April so I'd expect the pitch will be immaculate again by then.

Actually looking forward to a few away games so we can let it heal!

Badly needs some work done on it, for the past 3 games players have been slipping all over the place. I understand why - so many games in a short amount of time, and in all of that 3 storms battering Liverpool. But a good few weeks without a game, get it treated and back on track again

I was unsure whether it was the wind or the pitch that was causing problems last night. Maybe it was a combination of both.

We've got a few weeks until Watford and CL QF to get this pitch sorted. It's time FSG put their hands in their pockets and used some of the RedBird capital to get some weed and feed on the hallowed Anfield turf. Maybe pay to get in one of those lawn care specialists -  Green Thumbs, LawnMasters or something similar. If we do some half arsed effort this will be like Kabak on loan and signing Ben Davies all over again.

Green Thumb are good. Hopefully the club can move quickly on this and aren't just monitoring at the moment.

I'd rather we didn't go for the marquee signing here. I think Titchmarsh can still do a job but his best days are behind him. We should scouring Europe and the South America be looking for the next Titchmarsh. Always a risk bringing in someone from abroad and hoping their skills on continental grass can translate to England with it's different grass type and weather conditions. It's why I'd look to bring Green Thumbs in until the end of the season and then look to add in the summer. A short term answer with a plan for long term growth.
