So we are now sole holders of all of the records above 20 games, and if we could manage to beat both West Ham and Southampton we would reach a frankly mind boggling 108 points from our last 38 games (possible 114 points)

Quite simply those are some records that I don't ever see being broken.  You could maybe make a case for a PL team winning 20 games in a row, but 25 games in a row or 30 games in a row?  Not a chance surely.

If we win the next two games as you say, there is a big chance we'll break the 20 games in a row record ourselves THIS season. We'd be on 16 wins in a row, and have avoided dropping points at a team/venue we drew at last season, plus a resurgent Southampton, who may be one of the most underrated fixtures left. You'd back us to win the next four games and break the Wins in a Row record for the EPL (Man City with 18), and European Big 5 (Pep's record with Bayern with 19).

If so, then we'd be on 110 for the 38 game run, and we'd need to beat Everton and Crystal Palace to extend the 40 game points to 118! At that point, we'd only be 3 wins away from a 100% 25 game record, and close in on the British record (Celtic's 25), and European record (Benfica's 29.) Of course, that one is easier said than done when we'd need to beat Man City at their place.

I agree the 30 game record will be pretty tough to break. Even after winning 20 in a row, we'd still need to go on run that equals Man City's current wins in a row record (the 9 wins in a row we had at the end of last season, the 8 games we won at the start of this, and then win to better the draw we had at Old Trafford).

Not once have Man U improved their position against last year, they're always either flatlining or dropping points.

Which is nice.

Unfortunately the APLT has them gaining +2 in Week 16.

Assume the game in hand is a win, and we have at least double the points of everyone outside the top 4.

Those are video game numbers.

So what other oddity stats can we get excited about?  Well, Man City held the record for the most consecutive games with a 38 game points total of 100 or better at 13 games.  We are now at 13 games with 100 or better, and because our next two results dropping off are both draws, that means that the worst we can be is 102 points, so our 100 point or better run is going to be a minimum of 15 games.

Thank you! As you say, it's quite mind-boggling.

To clarify this:
In the league Everton are the only side to score 2 (consolation goals) 😉 but it wasn't enough to keep Marco Silva in a job. No other side has scored more than 1 against us in the league this season.

In other competitions Villa (L) (5-0) and Arsenal (W) (5-5) (5-4 on penalties) both scored 5 against the kids in the League Cup. Salzburg scored 3 (W) (4-3) and Napoli scored 2 (L) (2-0) in the CL group stage.

Chelsea scored 2 in the Super Cup but it was 1-1 at 90 mins. (W) (2-2 AET) (5-4 on penalties)

That's been the key in the league. We score every game, and the opposition don't score, or only score 1.

That's a good recipe for not losing!

That’s why we were able to get ahead of City when they had a better defensive record than us overall and were keeping more clean sheets. A teams chances of winning drops massively when conceding two, and they did it against Spurs, Norwich, Wolves, us, Newcastle etc. A lack of clean sheets doesn’t have to be a massive issue if you restrict the other team to one.

It's not an issue for this great team, but most teams under those conditions would pile up 1-1 score lines.

The players are looking tired and we've never liked going down to London to play West Ham. I suspect complacency will set in and the Moyes will find a chink in our armour that will from that point on be exposed by every team we play against. We'll be lucky to get anything.
But then Pep wil wake up and realise he was only dreaming!

Apologies if this is the wrong thread for this. I've been tracking potential records since game week 12. More in hope than expectation, but some are starting to seem possible. Despite being labelled record breakers, we haven't really broken any yet that places like the Premier League track (damn you Man Utd!) But the Southampton game is the first game where we can put one on the board, and that come thick and fast after that if we keep winning. Each record is the earliest we can win it. For records that don't require 100% runs, we can equal and beat in later game weeks. I've not included records such as earliest title win where it relies on results of other teams.

Hey Prof. I'm a huge fan of this. I've spent hours looking at it, alternating between our fixtures and Manchester City's. Thank you for this. It keeps me going from match to match. Can't wait for the end of season version where it's all filled up.

I've a suggestion, but I'm not sure what you'd think of it. I wonder if in future versions, points that were lost to draws are coloured amber/orange instead so that it would correlate with match results more. This way we can immediately see them instead of counting the ambers/oranges to get that figure.

Thanks for following

You aren't the first to ask for this.  The problem with that is the level of complexity it creates in the conditional formatting.  I'd need to work out a completely new way of creating the display.  Also, at the end of the season, the green and red sides meet, and if there was Amber thrown into the mix, I don't think it'd look very clear.  The red just illustrates where the green can't reach, so I don't think it would add much.  The shading of the teams hopefully shows things easily enough, and if you want the W, D, L data, there is always the traditional table to look at  ;D

Fantastic! There is just one problem though - the "down" arrow key on ours must be broken...

As is the "up" arrows key of United.

Shows how shite the chasing pack is, when even playing away at ADFC is considered as a Par 3 nowadays.
(Jokes aside, United won at City on MD 16, so there is some fake news about their animated chart.)

Ooh, well spotted. I think I'll prefer this version though.

Apologies if this is the wrong thread for this. I've been tracking potential records since game week 12.

If we match/beat many of those records we'd be more than the Invincible Centurions. We'd be the Immortals.
Great stuff - thanks for posting.

Incredible to think we could also add to that list - the earliest team to clinch the title, the most goals scored, and the biggest goal difference, although the latter two are difficult given City's goal-fests of recent seasons.

We can also break the record for the most piss boiled in a season - currently held by Utd  ;D
I've got OCD, but I prefer to call it CDO so it's in alphabetical order.

If we beat West Ham and Southampton, they'll already be mathematically out of reach before they kick off against Wolves on Saturday evening, which I'm sure will improve their mood no end.

What's the record for the earliest anyone has secured Champions League football for the following season? 1st Feb seems very early indeed.

Scratch that - checked my sums and it'll still be one more win after that needed to put them out of reach. All pretty academic, though, since there's no way they're picking up maximum points from their final 14 games anyway.

70 points.

In fucking January.

No team below  Newcastle in 14th can reach us.

That's... insane.

We are literally going to need a bigger chart soon. Fucking hell.
3 midfielders minimum in the next window. And probably another young CB to boot.

Anything else is negligent.
