England in the West Indies - 3 match ODI series
« on: March 3, 2017, 09:30:23 am »
This starts today. 13:30 GMT

Little ODI series with matches a couple of matches in Antigua and a third in Bridgetown.

West Indies Squad
JO Holder*, D Bishoo, CR Brathwaite, KC Brathwaite, JL Carter, ST Gabriel, SD Hope†, AS Joseph, E Lewis, JN Mohammed, AR Nurse, KOA Powell, R Powell

England Squad
EJG Morgan*, MM Ali, JM Bairstow, S Curran, SW Billings, JC Buttler†, LA Dawson, ST Finn, LE Plunkett, AU Rashid, JE Root, JJ Roy, BA Stokes, CR Woakes

Ball was in the squad but has been replaced by Sam Curran. Younger brother of Tom who is with the Lions at the moment, I think.

Few unfamiliar names in the Windies side.

What are the Windies like as an ODI side these days? Potentially quite dangerous I'd have thought,  with the capability to have the odd bad collapse?

We moan about too much cricket but always a welcome distraction from work!

Their last few games include a loss and a tie to Zimbabwe and a win and a loss to Sri Lanka. The loss to Zimbabwe was a D/L 130 needed off 27 overs and they failed.

Before that they got hammered 3-0 against Pakistan in UAE.

So yeah. They are shit.

They're not even in the champions trophy.

So they'll probably turn us over 3-0

West Indies: 1 Evin Lewis, 2 Kieran Powell, 3 Kraigg Brathwaite, 4 Shai Hope (wk), 5 Jonathan Carter, 6 Carlos Brathwaite, 7 Rovman Powell, 8 Jason Holder (capt), 9 Devendra Bishoo, 10 Ashley Nurse, 11 Shannon Gabriel

England: 1 Jason Roy, 2 Sam Billings, 3 Joe Root, 4 Eoin Morgan (capt), 5 Jos Buttler (wk), 6 Ben Stokes, 7 Moeen Ali, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 Adil Rashid, 10 Liam Plunkett, 11 Steven Finn.

Windies have won the toss and are bowling. Delayed start due to wet pitch and it is pissing it down. Great.

Slow, syrupy wicket by the looks of things. Not coming on to the bat at all well by the looks of things.

I'll take 250 now, thanks.

Yep. Looks more than tricky to bat on.

Morgan just dropped in the slips.

England have done well on this absolute pudding. 199-4 with 9 overs to go - 275+ is on the cards. I fancy that would be too much for this new West Indies side.

Strong chance England will get to 300 here, with this brisk cameo from Moeen.

Superb innings by Morgan. An absolute picturebook in how to pace a tough innings.

Might prove more costly to his bank account if he's broken a finger and can't play in the IPL.

What a guy!

I like this pitch. It's a fair wicket, especially in the modern day game where pitches are runways and 350 is considered par. Runs can be scored once a batsman is set, the boundaries are small which helps but there slow, low wickets always offer assistance to the bowlers. Fair play to the groundskeepers.

Yeah said during the 80s/90s all the team went to Manu with the Dwight Yorke connection, he never had any of it, mentioned Kenny/Digger/etc

Then went on to moan about our collapse after a good start to this season, not just a celeb fan the big guy :)

They're going to need a hell of a start to stand a chance are the windies...  could end early this.

Those England fans will just have to make do with the sun, fine views, relaxed atmosphere and great food.
