The Napalm Girl
In our World there’s been war after war.
That’s not what the World was created for.
Battles in the air, over land and at sea.
All that suffering makes no sense to me.
A countless death toll, forever to grow.
Invasion follows invasion, why is this so?
Wars over religion and the stealing of land.
Why are we like this…I don’t understand?
Bombs dropped or the thrusting of spears.
The World has seen it all over the years.
A so called ‘Great War' then World War 2.
Carefully planned wars, wars out of the blue.
A naked girl flees, burns upon her back.
In terror she tries to escape a Napalm attack.
I can picture that image, it’s stuck in my mind.
A picture that should shame all of mankind.
Kim Phúc will always have those scars to bare.
So many grafts, a child’s delicate skin to repair.
One iconic photograph, just one shutter click.
We all sat up and noticed, the World felt sick.
Bodies piled up high in a mud filled trench.
Nostrils filled with that awful death stench.
A burnt out City buried beneath red flame.
The Generals watch on and shift the blame.
Innocent children, they suffer most of all.
Traumatised with every bomb to fall.
Cruelly robbed of their happy childhood.
Fairy tales replaced with stories of blood.
Ongoing conflicts that never seem to end.
Civil wars, friends sadly turning on friend.
Smokey blood red skies a blacked out sun.
A forever peaceful World, will it ever come?
