Half time: Liverpool 1-0 Union Saint-Gilloise
« on: October 5, 2023, 08:47:45 pm »
Not a lot to say about that first half really other than to thank the Union keeper for the gift and wonder how the fuck Nunez managed to miss that sitter!

Could do with upping the tempo a bit in the second half. We know we have several more gears to go through, do that and we can start to think about resting players for the weekend.

I would honestly let Wijnaldum jizz in my face right now

Strong start. Went a bit flat. Than a lively end to the half.

They’re here as spoilers. Nunez should have put us up early on. Awful miss.

Gravenberch has been sharp.

Nunez miss was terrible but he’s working hard.

Bit lethargic and flat that half. 1-0, it's okay.

Mo and Nunez have to score those chances, the game opens up for us with an early goal there, instead we let them settle into it, they're well organised.

Trent was quiet and then came alive for the goal.

Grav really looked the part. Elliott did well.

Boring game. Very pedestrian so far. Grav has been the best player on the pitch so happy he got the goal. I love Nunez, but I have no idea how you miss that as a forward aha

You know full well Nunez is going to score an overhead kick from the halfway line or something in the 2nd half.

McManaman's insistence on backing up every sentence he says with e.g., "of course he is" could be the most grating thing in the world.

Good 30min then kinda faded away into a safety zone.

Good positive play though, Nunez should have had 2 at least.

Gravenberch has been great, Elliot a little quiet.

Endo putting himself around quite well, Jota been a bit quiet.

So far all positive though.

Feels like a proper Europa League group stage game. Largely flat performance and flat atmosphere.

Some positives - Gravenberch continues to look sharp, gets a goal, Quansah holding his own.

Nunez looked like he was trying to fix his feet before the ball comes to him, when he probably didn't have to. Just over thinking it again. I like how he just keeps at it though.

We've made 9 changes, that's always likely to bring issues, just win the game, take the 3 points and move on!

Comfortable, if slightly laboured. Gravenberch looks good, lovely turn in the area before his tap in. Nunez should obviously have scored before then, no idea how he didn’t. Elliot did great in the build up to that chance.

Jota’s been a bit peripheral.

A bit of a snorefest really. Should have been out of sight by 20 minutes. Easily the better side even in first gear. Nunez missed a piss easy chance, which usually means he'll score a ridiculously difficult worldie in the second half.

Allison's quick thinking set that goal up. Great vision by him.

Just in the way he turns and moves on the ball and glides into space with it, I think Gravenberch has shades of Vieira.

You’d expect some level of disjointedness with so many changes, but that was a frustrating watch. And Darwin? From the sublime to the ridiculous. Jota’s form has fallen off a cliff - a very steep one. I watched an excellent refereeing performance today - it was the Brighton game. How come we get the iffy continental ref? He’s missed 3 blatant free kicks in our favour, but not one of theirs.

Feels like a proper Europa League group stage game. Largely flat performance and flat atmosphere.

I think it's just the nature of it. The only exception was Napoli in 2010 and that had a grudge to it from the away game. it's a bit of a comedown as well after a glorious few years in the CL.

It doesn't really come alive for us until the last 16, but you still have to get there and get the group won to avoid the extra round.

A bit hectic at times and I think we need to pass a bit better.

Konate had a good half which is something I didn’t expect to say. By that I mean that I thought our defence would have an easy night but that hasn’t been the case.

I thought Mo would have lifted his chance over the keeper. Nunez’s miss was poor but he’ll keep pegging away until he scores.

Their keeper looks suspect against long range shots so keep pinging them in to him.

I watched Gravenberch most of that half. He started quite well but his end product wasn’t great but he grew more and more into the game. Took his goal well and has had some lovely runs…….he quickly strides away from players like Gakpo.

Their crowd are a noisy bunch.

The match isn’t won yet but we should have far too much strength as the match goes on. Nunez and Jota will score.
