Hmm.. it was doing so well too. All the build up this season about Dexter's addiction and all that, then suddenly Hannah mentions something and he totally changes. Meh. Kinda cheapens all the stuff that happened with him and Deb earlier in the season.

Then once again I can't emphasise how stupid Miami Metro are. They've got more than enough evidence but no... he's our friendly Dexter, we can't possibly question him. And the Quinn thing.. aim for the head Nadia, the head! Not the arm!!

The Dad stuff was really really stupid.

Hey, it turns out the new guy they just introduced wasn't the killer.... it was some other new guy they just introduced instead! Seriously, why did they kill off Isaak to replace him with that stuff? What's the point.

That episode was frustrating.

No but it was a complete tease from the writers - we're going to make it look like this new creepy guy... but actually it's someone else entirely who we've also never seen before. What did it add to the story? It's just lazy. How often are we going to see the fire specialist now they've apprehended the arsonist? I doubt he'll be around at all.

It was just another device to allow Dexter to learn something about himself, like most of the supporting cast in this show.

Well the show is called Dexter, not Dexter and Friends. The father was put there to advance Dexter by killing a person that doesn't fit his "code" hence getting rid of "dark passenger" and evolving into something darker

Yeh I understand that but it felt too rushed and convenient for me. Anyway don't let me ruin your enjoyment of the show, it's still very entertaining, just sometimes it riles me up because it could be better with a few tweaks here and there. They've done so much better this season than the last couple.

Of course it was a plot device to evolve Dexter's character, hes a serial killer, usually he learns and evolves through who he kills.

You seem to understand why they do the show this way, you just arent a fan of it, but thats fine.

I thought it was great.

Few points. They had to evolve the "dark passenger" aspect eventually, like he said, its been an excuse. He can blame it on that and absolve himself of the responsibility. This had to evolve because its been the same since day 1, Dexter has this "darkness" in him, but unlike others, it doesnt go away when he kills, it comes back again and again. Theres only one more season after this so they need to start wrapping up his mentality and story now so it isnt rushed out.

The arsonist, while he technically played a small part, impacted the storyline hugely. His story and Dexter realising that he himself doesnt take responsibility for those he kills means that he has this huge inner conflict now. He wants to kill, but is it his dark passenger, or is it just who he is. Hannah kills, but she doesnt have it, its just who she is. Dex has always put it on this dark passenger as if its separate from him. Not any more. Hes killed someone who doesnt fit his code, which hes only done once before but he did it calculatingly, like his normal kills. This wasnt a moment of rage, it was him, killing someone. This is a huge deal for him.

Miami Metro are possibly the most inept homicide department in the world.

LaGuerta is clicking the pieces into place, but will Deb have a part to play in this yet?

I thought it was a fantastic episode again, only 2 left, will be a great finale to the season, no idea where they will go.

I started series one on saturday afternoon after stumbling across it on Netflix. I've just finished series four. I've been sleep-deprived all week due to how fucking captivating the show is.

The Trinity series blew me away. No idea how anything can beat that.

and I agree it seemed like deb poisened herself, next weeks preview showed a lot, one oversight by dexter is that Hannah knows all about his murders, does she still love him enough not to confess? He should have killed her, but with all the heat on his back perhaps it wouldnt have been the best of ideas.

Where to from here? Will Hanna feature in next season? Deb is going to go absolutely ballistic next season I think. Pretty disappointed to find out that Hanna actually did drug Deb, was hoping it was Deb and her alone. Ah well.

So want to watch what happens next season. How are they going to explain La Guerta being shot with Debs gun? Unless they just hacked her up and dropped her off the boat (doesn't seem likely though)

It raises the question what would you be prepared to do for the person you love?

I don't know, for me the whole Deb knowing about Dexter kinda fucked everything up. For one, I can't reconcile her character going along with it and not turning him in - just can't suspend disbelief on that one so the whole season has been kinda hard to remain convinced about. Still enjoyed it but without that belief in what you're watching it kinda dissipates any storyline where she is involved. I think the LaGeurta storyline was superb but as sooon as Deb is introduced into it, it goes tits up. Didn't like the russian mob guy storyline - bit banal I thought. But liked the whole Hannah McKay scenario. Looking back I think the three main storylines along with the forever present subtext of Deb knowing was too much, cluttered, cut the Russian mob bollocks and Deb's knowledge and would've been a cracking season.

Altho it was a trip seeing Doakes popping up in memory form - he was a great character, feisty foul-mouthed fuck, but he was tops.

Soooooooo a bit of an up and down season for me, spoilt like I said because they ringed Deb into his killing ring.

She panicked early on when she first caught him and implicated herself. So her decision making will always come from a place of survival because if Dexter goes down, she goes down with him.

Ever since she asked Dexter to kill Hannah..ever since she saw Dexter take care of that guy who killed women after chasing them around mazes. She could never go back to being morally sound. It was only a matter of time before she joined in...I just hope she doesnt become completely complicit in it and still has her demons about it all next season.

I also want them to get involved with each other...wierd but it should happen.

I could've lived with that, even tho it is out of character but hey, people do things out of character, fair enough but to have him stay around and become ever more complicit in his killings past or present just smacks of horseshit for her character. If she'd told him to get the fuck out of town or chose to remove herself, I'd just about bought that but her continuing involvement in his nefarious dealings don't wash. Which culminated in the ultimate crossing the line moment in the finale, which I also don't buy.

They've made two grave errors in the series for me. 1. was having dexter become a father (ie bogging him down with a kid), that just got in the way of everything and having done it, it was like they were forever trying to undo it, choosing in the end to have a nanny forever present with the most ridiculous schedule. 2. And Deb's involvement with his criminal ways.
