Read about four separate reviews, all gave it one star unfortunately. I was going to take my boy but decided against it. Apparently he is big in Mexico and the film was made for them but is a bit cheap and rushed.

Still, hope she has a good birthday!

I refuse to believe Top Cat is anything other than absolutely fucking awesome, and I do intend to go and watch it in the cinema for the full experience. Even though I already have a downloaded copy here waiting for me.

However I have heard it's shit.

I'm not having it. HE'S FUCKING TOP CAT, FOR FUCK'S SAKE.

Sometimes it isn't a good idea to go back. Top Cat was a legend, but perhaps only of his time.

So true of just about every cartoon I watched as a kid and have seen again as an adult.

The old Tom & Jerry's are still shown here and my boy loves them (almost as much as I do!)...can't beat some gratuitous violence for some family entertainment!

I haven't seen Top Cat in years. Might have to be sad and youtube some later!

Saw Top Cat last weekend.

It was OK, not awful, not brilliant, just OK. Main think was my 4 year old was entertained by it.

Being in 3D made it better as it was my first experience of a 3D film.

I watched Brave earlier and thought it was excellent. Everything you'd expect from a Pixar film, really - looks brilliant, light humour, a few laugh out loud moments, great characters and it has real heart. not much could improve it, perhaps a little more humour, and maybe not quite so predictable, but then it is aimed at kids...

The short before it, La Luna, was sweet, too. A nice little commentary on east European labourers.

So I did get around to watching Top Cat last night. It's OK, like. If I was watching it purely for reminiscing (which I was!), it was cool. Very much like one long episode of what I remember Top Cat to be like! I reckon kids would be entertained by it and I intend to watch it with the little dude next time I babysit. It's not the best film you'll ever see, but then it's a kids movie based on a 90's cartoon. It was never going to be a cinematic masterpiece!

The best bit was still the theme tune, though. Obviously! ;D
a 90's cartoon? Now you're making feel old, I only knew about and saw the 60's version.

cheers mate she did, we went yesterday and I can tell you that 1 star is about right, it was crap still can't believe we paid 30 bar to watch it, she said she liked it but think she only said that cos I was going on about how I loved it as a kid, what made it even worse was all the trailers for films before it ice age 2, brave,Madagascar 3 that are coming out in a few weeks

So I got this great idea to rent one of my favourite movies, Stand By Me, so I could watch it with my kid, who is ten. Eventually ended up buying it off Amazon, only to find that it's got a 15 cert. I looked up imdb (which has detailed parental stuff) and got this:

Sex & Nudity

Suggested MPAA Rating:R for Violence,Language and Smoking-All Involving Teens

Infrequent references. (ex: "Why don't you go home and f**k your mother some more?")

4 twelve year old boys are seen in their wet underwear.

Violence & Gore

The face of a dead boy's body is seen. His eyes are open and he has some blood on his face.

A young man has a word carved into his skin with a razor-blade, some blood is seen. This is voluntary however, so there is no violence during the scene.

An older boy bullies a younger boy by pushing him to the ground, getting on top of him and then he puts a lit cigarette close to the kid's eye: threatening to put it in.

A gang threatens young boys with a knife.

A boy unexpectedly blows a hole in a trash can (he thinks his friend is playing a prank).

A boy is threatened with a gun.

Profanity

11 f-words.

Other milder language, like shit, asshole, ect.

Most language is used as an insult.

Shit is used quite frequently.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking

In a few scenes, 12 year old boys smoke cigarettes.

Other scenes of smoking.

Some older teens drink and drive several times.

Frightening/Intense Scenes

The body of a dead boy may be frightening to younger viewers and the whole film revolves around them trying to find the body, so some children might imagine a horribly deformed body until the body is found.

Four boys are covered in leeches. One boy has one in his underwear and he faints.

Two young boys on a railroad bridge are chased by a train. This scene is very intense.

There are some very threatening scenes between the boys and an older gang.

A group of pre-teen boys stay in the bush one night and they all take turns of keeping watch with a gun, strange and scary noises are heard that they think are ghosts or wolves.

An intense stand-off scene with characters threatening each other with a knife and gun.

A scene in which a young boy is spying on two older boys may be intense as there is a risk that he might be spotted.

I watched Stand By Me at youth club when it first came out, I must of been about eleven.  My lad is that age and I'd have no problem letting him watch it, in fact I'd probably let my daughter watch it and she's nine.

Pesonally, rather than decision by committee, which the rating is, really, this is more dependent upon the child. Not all 10 year olds are equal. You know your boy, so decide whether he'd be okay with the film.

I'm on babysitting duty on Sunday. That means I have Ice Age 2 and 3 lined up and ready to go, and I don't have to feel guilty watching them because ... IT'S FOR THE KIDS.

Yessss. 8)

I saw Ice Age 4 recently. Meh.

I started this thread in 2006, when my kid was five and anything was possible. He's eleven now and has a pretty good grasp of what's possible, which is make or break for kids movies. So any Rawkite who owns smallies and wants to take up the baton, step right up.

Wreck it Ralph is just as good as HTTYD. Different, but just as good. Had a Monsters Inc feel to it, for obvious reasons when you get to see it.

Currently watching Toy Story on ITV+1. Still a classic and I just can't believe it's 8 years old! And far they've come with animation since then.

I watched the final one with my 10 year old grand daughter,I was in tear's and she was laughing at me.

Kid's are so mean. ;D

I also let her watch the first 30 minute's of Blazing Saddles, she was so shocked to hear the N word so readily used, but she was screaming laughing at Cleavon Little threatening to shot himself.

Went to see it yesterday and it was excellent but didn't really grab me. Boy, 11, enjoyed it immensely.

This was the short they played beforehand, which has been nominated for an Oscar.
