Not a qualifier, but a friendly tonight - Poland vs Germany, and worth a mention as it will be Jakub ‘Kuba’ Błaszczykowski's farewell to the national team, his 109th cap!
What a career and what a player. And what a story, from the most awful horror and tragedy of seeing his mother killed by his father, to what he achieved at Dortmund and a long long club and national career.
Not surprisingly Kloppo was asked about him by the Polish press this week, here’s a few quotes:
"I loved working with Kuba because of his qualities and character. It was a pleasure to be his manager in Dortmund. I have to say that to this day, the most important thing for me is that we're still friends.”
"Kuba was also one of the most important players in one of the best teams in BVB's history. That says something. His chemistry with Piszczek on the right was exemplary. Thanks to them, we had the best right side in the Bundesliga for a long time.”
"I think Kuba should be 100% satisfied with what he achieved. The path he walked deserves the highest recognition. When I think of my Polish trio... what players I had! Kuba, Piszczek and Lewy. They gave me so much on the pitch and many great memories."
