bloody hell casey, ive just looked at the map for benbecula, that looks proper remote, you must be settled if youve been there that long.
how did the locals take to you

Benny is very remote but it was great when the girls were little.  They could just go out and play no worries.  Even Laura who has special needs.  I got on well with most of the locals and still get welcomed back when I visit the grandkids.  I have an attitude here I am if you dont like me then the door is in the same place it was when you walked through it to meet me.  I think life is too short to piss about over awkward people.

Me too but this may sound a bit ignorant but how often do you manage to get to the mainland?

Used to get 4 shopping warrents a year, plus when the hubby was posted out we would get a couple a month for either him to visit or us to go to him.  Wasn't that bad its a beautiful place.  Also we used to get a NHS travel warrent as far as Glasgow to take Laura to Alder Hey once a year for her check up.  They all add up.

Oh my god! that was some sesh I ended up in last night, did'nt even know the reds result until 6 0 clock.

Anyway who mentioned Gronant, we went there every year for about 10 years. There was fuck all there but we loved it, funnily enough we took the kids there about 15 years ago and it had'nt changed one bit. One thing was certain, you were better off on the caravan sites than in that stinking hell hole Pontins in Prestatyn.

Just watched that Nowhere man film about John Lennon as a kid/teenager.

Fucking boss it was, and I was in tears. Not because he had a sad upbringing, but it reminded me of why I wanted to be in a band, and not just do it for the money.

Watched it with the Wifey the other week.

It's a truly superb little film and highly recommended to anyone who hasn't seen it.

Terry, did you watch the extras part of the DVD? Well worth it, about the recreation of the first Quarrymen gig with interviews of the other lads. Brilliant stuff.

The only thing that jarred slightly and I thought was perhaps a bit of artistic licence and slightly unreal was the riding on the roof of the bus scene down by the Pier Head. From what I remember, there was no way the windows would open wide enough to get up on top.

But all in all, top notch acting and viewing and pretty convincing.

.....it was Gronant every year.

Bloody hell Gronant - THAT'S the place we were staying in a caravan back when we were 16 when my mate got battered by a gang of Scousers . They gave him a bit of kicking too - he'd only nipped into the town to buy us some chips. Yorkie was a very good scrapper too but he'd had a beer or two so they sorted him. But when we went seeking retribution o' course never did find them.

Bloody hell Gronant eh? The site there had a little club where they had the old singalongs with a resident organist - now very dated o' course but loved it back then. Still do enjoy a good singalong.
There is nothing wrong with striving to win, so long as you don't set the prize above the game. There can be no dishonour in defeat nor any conceit in victory. What matters above all is that the team plays in the right spirit, with skill, courage, fair play,no favour and the result accepted without bitterness. Sir Matt Busby CBE KCSG 1909-1994

First record I bought was this in '69 ....

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/6ElC4UwYVuA&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/6ElC4UwYVuA&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1</a>

Although my older sisters had most of the rest of the Tamla and Stax stuff so I was sort of spoilt.

It's bought back some memories though of my very short lived cool phase. I remember buying about the same time in '69 my first Ben Sherman shirt for something like 14/6d, a lot of saving for a young lad back then and I still remember the colour - yellow with tiny red and grey vertical stripes and of course button down collar with loop and pleat, and then pleading for my mum to buy me a pair of decent parallels for Christmas. I managed to get a gorgeous old crombie and a pair of oxblood all leather lace up shoes from an old uncle and got them re-soled with the obligatory steel insets, had a close Steve McQueen crop and thought I looked and was the fucking business. Didn't last long though, discovered jazz cigarettes, grew hair and then some, got serious hippie girlfriend, morphed to wearing T-shirts, jeans, loon pants and desert or monkey boots, and the rest as they say is history.

My first record, apart from a load of old 78s my aunty gave me, was the Searchers 'What have they done to the Rain'.  My uncle Jimmy got it for me for Christmas 1965 cos my dad had got me a Dansette.  Second record I got later that day from a family in our street who had a daughter with special needs who I used to call in ad play with.  That was 'I Feel Fine' .

Used to pinch the flags off the golf course to put in the breast pocket of the Crombie.  My sister was a maxi dress wearing flower power girl …. Remember once she was all dolled up to go out, walked down the first of the two steps we had and tripped over the dress, serves her right for wearing the wrong shoes, she had a pair of tennis pumps she painted flowers on.

As for shoes I can remember 2 pairs from my younger days, one was a pair of sling-back black platforms that had a red and yellow stripe across the front.  Used to wear them all the time thinking I was the bees-knees whenever I went into town on a Saturday.

The 2nd pair was when I was a really kid and a bit of a cow in the way I managed to come by them.  My dad’s sister still lived in the family home on Stephenson Street and on the corner there was s shop we knew as  Sconeheads and in there  was the most gorgeous pair of shoes I’d seen – you have to understand I was only about seven but to me those orangey coloured see-through stilettoes, with elastic across the front and back to keep them on were the best thing since sliced bread, only thing was my Mum couldn’t afford them and there was me doing tantrums outside the shop because I couldn’t have them, along came my Aunty who bought them for me.  She was my favourite Aunty after that, even though I got a belt of my Mum for behaving the way I did.

Just caught up with all this since me ban. I feel terrible. Is there people still banned off here for defending me?

Not on that, if there is. And if there is, can you do a bit of an amnesty Pheeny? It's out of order really and makes me feel like shite. I'd rather stay banned with them if that's the case. Not trying to put you on the spot. But I hope you can see me point.

Choice whould be up to Pheeny & the Mods. But ya needs realize that if any are banned they took it to support ya.....

Mate, I get far too much respect for that. I'm honestly tired of it. I just done a bit of rebel rousing, other's done far far more. And I don't see why other people should be banned cos of me out of their respect for the H&G thing. It's really not on and it makes me feel like shite. I'm only a ragarse. I grew up with basically two rules... you don't rob off your own and you don't snitch. I picked up a few more along the way, but this still feels against everything I believe in. I'd do it in private, but I want people to know I'm not happy about it.

fuck off fats ;)
i got banned for questioning the mods over it, how someone can say libelous shit and nothing happened and then people get banned for the way they were pulling him on it. didnt make no sense to me but thats partly cos ive only been on rawk 10 mins and trying suss out what  ok and not ok. no-one put words in me mouth. i dont know you and you seem like a good egg old chap an all that, but i'd probably have said the same shit whoever it was. dont know why anyone else got barred though. what i do know is it knocked the stuffin out of the aul arses for a few days, never seen it so quiet, and thats the proper shame to it.
like i said mate , cant speak for the others barred out but no-one put words in my mouth. i was just saying what i thought was right and having seen some of your posts i think youd do the same.

so sod off  ya big lump
heres to the new year

Fair enough. I'll leave it at that.

I didn't watch it on DVD mate. It seemed to accidentally find its way onto my computer.  :P
