It appears I’m co-hosting a radio show next Friday. Any tips?

It’s a local indie show. I’ll keep to what I know (not much...).

If I’m feeling brave, I’ll post a link.

Don't talk over the music, one of my pet peeves of my life,i hate radio DJ's who do that.

I did a few weeks on a local community radio years ago. My thing was to have a musical theme each week inc: Unusual duets or collaborations (e.g. Kylie and Nick Cave), flawed genius of rock (e.g. Syd Barrett, Kurt Cobain).

I worked om the radio for about 6 years...they always said

It depends if you have ads or not

If you are planning......

Think about your 'clocks'

2 songs out of the news/top of the hour
'Personality' link (fun news stories/fact of the day/celeb birthdays etc etc etc)
2 songs
Read/sponsor message /community announcement/competition tease
2 songs
Bottom of the hour travel/weather/whatever other features you are obliged to run
2 songs
personality link /competition/phone in subject
2 songs
next hour tease (music / competition/pre recorded segment/interview)
Song
Top of the hour

And ALWAYS ALWAYS throw forward (whats coming up - to keep people listening)

Remember that (depending on what kind of station/time of day) people listen for about 20-30 minutes at a time so they need information/music and some kind of 'personality' link during that time

If you are co-hosting - have an opinion - don't just agree - conflict is interesting, present the other side of the argument - think of the 'left field' response or the alternative view as this will be held by a % of the audience, tell a story (brief and to the point) - share something about yourself, have anecdotes, read the paper/be up with the news (showbiz/music/geekdom/politics etc)

I concur.  I’ve been thinking of being a bit of a cock with the host (know him from way back, so it’d be funny).
