That's your view. That's your guesses. I'm going from what our manager and Can himself says.  :wave

But they would say that wouldn't they.

Disclaimer; I really like Emre Can and think he's got tonnes of improvement in him and I would 100% keep him.

However, if we are to challenge for major honours then he is the type of player we need to upgrade because he isn't yet good enough to be a key player for a team at that level, in my view. As a fan base we are quite quick to laud our players when they have a good spell and we quickly forget what's gone before, but we've got to start being ruthless as a club. As I said at the start though, I would definitely keep him and hope that he makes the necessary improvements to become as good as we need - given his age I wouldn't be shocked if he did.

Totally agree

Probably not as good as his other ones but the one Suarez goal that I particularly enjoy is one where it was a long ball to him that he controlled on his chest, one touch to fool the keeper, and goal. I think it was Newcastle. Anyone know which one I'm talking about?

That was something to see, I loved his bullet header from practically the penalty spot from a cross. That was amazing.

I can't remember which team it was against, I hesitate to say Arsenal.

West Brom I think, he got a hat-trick that day.

Not sure I've ever seen a Liverpool player doing something so jaw-dropping. Kuyt's necessary touch is so simultaneously beautiful and ugly.

For some reason Aurelio's freekick at OT is the other most jaw-dropping moment.

aurelio's free kick against Cech in the CL was better - the result just sucked

Back on topic: Emre's played the contract negotiations well. Can't see us letting him leave, and he'll get the deal he wants moneywise. Be fucking brainless to play him for three years while he's young and blowing hot and cold and then let him leave for cheap when he's coming into his prime.

We shouldn't be letting him go anyway - he's a more than useful squad player, and would've cost us quite a few millions even to just bring in an equivalently able replacement.

It would be a very damning indictment on our entire recruitment strategy if it were to happen. Would really diminish the image and reputation of the club. Fuck that. Get the contract sorted asap.

With Hendo struggling for injuries and only Lucas and Gini as our other decent CM's, I would've thought extending his contract would've been a major priority. If we've extended Lovren's then we should really be getting on with it and tying him down with a decent contract. He is likely to improve over coming seasons and could mature into a top CM for us.

Get the contract sorted after the season to be honest. Focus on the three games we have first.

I asked my fiance who she would pick if Emre Can and I both approached her in a bar.

She just laughed in my face. I found it rather offensive.

I wonder what his options are elsewhere?  Would he get a bigger club? Would he get 100k plus?.
I'm a little doubtful he would. Be interesting to hear other opinions.

I doubt he would but it's cheaper for us to give him the £100k a week so yes his agent has played a blinder.

You missed one very important detail: Both Klopp and Can have confirmed that he has played with an injury for almost a year, and that he has only recently reached full fitness.

So he was injured but now fit and that somehow now justifys a £100k salary?

When he was playing injured, he was not looking like a £100,000 per week player.

Now that is playing fully fit, he is looking like a £100,000 per week player.

Is that simple enough?

Well why didn't you just say ?

Nah not for me, Kante on the same wages, Dembele at Spurs on like £80k

Seems Just like the Lovren deal offering average players wages way over their ability.

But like I said originally it will still be more cost effective for the club paying him rather than bringing in someone of a higher calibrate..........so we know what will likely happen.

Of course we could see a revolution at the club pay him the £100k and still bring in a upgrade...........!

Its a bit of a weird strategy, we pay average (atm) players 20-30k more but we wont put top players coming in on big wages.

What I like about him is he always wants the ball, he's strong, good in the air and isn't afraid to try things.

Yes he can be sloppy at times but I much rather a player take a chance than just take the safety first option.
