Film locations quiz (No Cheating).
« on: June 27, 2014, 08:20:37 am »
Okay, short and sweet. Whoever gets it right, poses the next one.

Nice and easy one to start proceedings.

 http://goo.gl/maps/AHNjq

(Answers in spoilers folks, so's not to spoil it for late-comers and if any real solid ones come up, one hint per location. If you win and don't post yours within the hour of your post, the next person is on.)

Short Guide on Google Maps in case you're a philistine:

Spoiler
In order to get the link for the location, first find it in Google maps - then try to get the angle/shot as close to the film as possible. Then, on the left pane, there is a printer and a link icon. Click the link icon, and ensure "Short URL" is ticked. Or you could just do what Gregor did underneath and copy/paste the link from the address bar.

Here's my one, I don't know what you mean by the "left pane" and I can't see a printer or link icon, but this seems to work anyway:

Aye, Well in. (Told you it was easy) If you look to the left where it says "Get directions" - "My Places", then next to it is a printer and a chain icon. But yeah, as you say, still works like.

Little interesting thing about my one:
Spoiler
if you look here, well.. Have a look, I thought it was quite boss. You can also see Gus Poyet reading a paper.

That is going to piss me off, if it's as close to the actual camera shot as it is in the film, I think I've seen it before. But, I've been down that street a few times to get to the market so I'm thinking it might be just that.

It doesn't say that for me, not sure if it's because of the browser I'm using. Yeah it's close to the shots used in the film, if nobody gets it after an hour I'll give a clue!

Edit: I think I can visualise it, but I can't be sure. It's something to do with those shops on the left, Paul Smith and the Cafe. I retake my guess back, it's something to do with that Paul Smith shop, I'm 90% sure of it. It's some shop in some film, argh!!!

It's fucking... It's on the tip of my tongue, its like, I'm sure someone goes into that shop and I think it has grating on it or something. It's like an Aladin's cave or something... If it's what I'm thinking it is we don't actually see inside the shop (pfft!). For some reason I keep thinking of Michael Caine. Is it:

Good point - Not to be an ass about it, but considering Gregor mentioned the hour hint thing, I guess it would be only fair to put in something about folk who guess right and for one reason or another aren't able to pose theirs. So I guess it'd be only fair on others to put in an hour deadline for guesser-righters to pose their shot. Otherwise the next guesser (wronger in this case), should be on.

Seems fair right?

(Would make that Buck Pete at 10:38)

Is that making sense or am I having a brainfart?

Yup - Went for a nosey down there when I was living up there, fuck it's rough.

http://goo.gl/maps/HXfxY - This is where the scene starts, somewhere around Princess Street and ends up at Carlton Street. Here's the route: http://goo.gl/maps/oHL1G - Wonder how many folk have recreated that?

If you browse down the street a few hundred yards you'll see what I mean by how rough it gets, there's a section by some graffiti that has cans of lager just left there and a load of ominous looking folk hanging around.

Anyway, dude you're up.

Ok, well the other building I wanted to do is more recognisable and from the same film, but its so secluded you can hardly see it from the road. maybe with the 2 pics it may help:

No, too high brow! The car park shot is not the best to be honest, but though it may jog some memories.

Not the foreground buildings.

Ahh I don't think I've seen it then mate... Give it time, someone'll get it. That structure is far too iconic.

Grosse Point Blank?
Exercise is to the body what reading is to the mind.

"If I hadn't doped, I would never have won". "Doping improves your performance between 5 and 7 per cent, and maybe 10 to 12 per cent when you are in a peak shape.

"Doping isn't addictive but it's an instrument of power: whoever wins attracts the money; for themselves, the team and the sponsors"
