Me and a couple of mates are heading to prague next month for a few days, any recommendations of what to do over there? Were pretty much up for anything, so far all we have planned is to go to a shooting range and and do one of the pub crawls any other ideas from those who have been?

I went with a couple of the lads a couple of months back. We stayed in the 'Hostel Downtown' pretty cheap and close to just about everything.

As far as things to do, we went sky diving which was awesome. Went to some sex museum thing in the middle of the city and then just general sight seeing stuff, as it's a historical city there's loads of stuff like cathedrals, museums etc.

We seen the pub crawl going on but done our own thing. There must of been about 80 people on it or something. We found the nightlife a bit hit & miss. We went out on a Thursday and everywhere was bouncing and then again on the Saturday and it was really quiet, might of just been our experience though as we didn't have a clue about anywhere so just winged it

skimmed past this thread last night but just remembered this place, there's three of them about, we tried the one opposite the entrance to the charles bridge near to the four seasons hotel.

http://www.thepub.cz/praha-1/?lng=en

pumps on the table, touch screen for ordering food so the only time you have to get up is for a piss or to leave, was very popular around 1800 each day, pays to book in advance with them if you can, also compete with other tables for who can drink the most, compete with the other pubs around prague and i think it also links with other euro cities for more competing!

Prague castle is indeed a must-see.

We stayed in the Prague Plus Hostel, and whilst the Hostel itself was decent, the area was grim and a bit out of the way. Very Soviet looking.

Visited in '94 and 2000....pity its turned into a stag party destination.....'94 was particularly good as little had changed since the collapse of communism and full of wonderful places to discover...hardly any hotels or cars...16p a pint..by 2000 changed quite a lot , stayed in a Hilton, BMW's everywhere...still had some charm...but 50p a pint....dread to think what it is like now....or what they charge for a pint!

Was doing a bit of research today on the booze cruises over there today, there was one that caught my eye, meet up in some pub 2 hours worth of free booze and shots then you make you way to the ship, you party on that for a few hours then you dock and your giving free vip entrance to some nightclub which is supposedly the biggest Church turned nightclub in europe. Apparently it was used in the film xXx. So i had a quick google off the nightclub and guess what? turns out its the biggest gay club over in Prague  ;D i assumed the xXx film was the one with Vin Diesel ha i'm not too sure now  ;D

Went to go visit my sister while she was studying in prague.  She took me to this place called "U Sudu" in Prague 1, a quick google search will get you the address.  Easily one of the coolest bars i've ever been to.  You walk into what looks like a small bar but when you walk to the back you'll discover a staircase that leads down about two stories to an underground cavern bar. This bar is also connected to several other cavern bars located throughout the tunnels down there.  Great atmosphere and good people, no creepers.  Will mention though that smoking is completely acceptable down there, which worked for me, but others might not enjoy it.  Its a must go

Anyone know the best sites to book weekends like this? And is it better going for a hotel or hostel? Flight and hotel for the weekend seems to mainly be £150-£250. Are the hotels strict over there as it'll be about 6 lads all early 20's.

Quick question for people who have been. I'm going to prague in February with some mates from university. We have booked our flights and will be staying in a hostel down the road from the old town. However we are not too sure how much money to take with us. We will be staying for nearly a week and plan on going out a few nights as well as seeing some of the (cheap) sites around and in Prague.  Will £200-250 be enough for 6-7 days there or should we take more?  Thanks in advance.

We paid 120 euro for our flights and rented an apartment which works out at like 52 euro each so i say about £150 should be enough.

It should be, though it obviously depends on whether or not you're willing to spend a lot. One thingy is that the beer in super markets is really a lot cheaper than in pubs, unlike in Liverpool really. In a super market you can buy pints of quality beer for about 40p. Enjoy!

Yeah we bought a ticket when we first used the trams, and then realised that we must of been the only people to have bothered so just jumped on an off them for free the rest of our trip

You've got to see the Own Town (Stare Mesto) for starters. Then you should walk across the bridge to the Lesser Quarter (Mala Strana).

I was a little underwhelmed by the castle. Nice views over the city, Vladislav Hall and the cathedral are impressive, but other than that, not that much to see. Try to do only a half day there if you go.

I'd recommend seeing the synagogues and the Jewish cemetery too. There's some interesting stories behind that part of city.

We are going with another couple, and they know people who live in Prague. They've laid on a few things that sound interesting [Going to watch the Ice Hockey on the Friday Night, nice restaurant on Saturday etc] but the stuff you mentioned is on the agenda too for definite.

Beautiful city but fast becoming literally overwhelmed by stag parties. Obviously have a look at the tourist parts, Charles Bridge etc, but my advice is to head out into the suburbs away from the touristy parts. Its only a couple of stops on the tram, and much more enjoyable....plus cheaper ale!

Word of warning about the trams though, everyone seems to think its a piece of piss to bunk on and off the trams without paying, but beware - there is undercover ticket inspectors and if your caught you'll get a hefty fine. Its only buttons for an all day ticket, so not worth the risk.

Thanks for the heads up mate.

As I said in my earlier post, we'll be spending most of our time with a couple [scousers] who actually live and work over there.

Hopefully, they'll steer us away from the shitty touristy bits, and we'll get to see the "real" city.

Just back, after a memorable weekend away.

Few highlights:

TRAP Prague; Boss laugh in here. Its a flat done out like a Cold War Spy's gaff. You get locked in, and you have an hour to escape. Loads of puzzles to solve, codes to find, hidden rooms, combination locks to undo etc., and all the while a big clock on the wall counts your time down to the accompanying sound of Russian martial music. Dead original, and reasonably priced. Brilliant way to spend an hour.

V Zatisi; Fantastic restaurant. Fine dining, so a bit pricey, but the food was exceptional. Nice change of pace from the cheap and cheerful [and very enjoyable] bars we spent the other nights in.

Ice Hockey at the O2: Friday night's entertainment. Great stadium, boss atmosphere. Slavia Prague lost 3-2, but the locals seemed to enjoy themselves anyway! My first ice hockey game-very enjoyable night and dead easy to get to on the Metro.

Vysehrad Park: Way over the other end of town from the castle, but again easily accessible on the tube. Nice park, great views, and hardly any tourists.

General thoughts: The beer is beautiful, and extremely cheap. We only saw one stag do the whole time we were there too, but this was probably due to the local knowledge of our guides-
We were being shown the city by a couple who live there, so they made sure we saw the castle etc., but we avoided the times when such places were overrun by tourists.

The shuttle bus from the airport to the Old Town was ace - runs every half an hour from right outside the arrivals hall to right outside our hotel, all for about a fiver per person.

Overall, couldn't recommend the place highly enough.

Honestly mate, couldn't recommend it enough. It was boss. Minimum 2 people or a maximum of 6 can play at one time. You have the place to yourself for your hour. You book your slot on line and pay [cash only] at the end of your hour.
