I'm amazed at how people can talk about fitness, injuries, recovery, and planning when they are patently unqualified to do so. You sound like Colin Wanker. Dinosaur thinking.

Nobody wants Sturridge playing with a injury and risk making it worse but if Rodgers says he will play surely the medical team at the club have decided he is fit enough even if looks off the pace ?

Interestingly, Borini started their game against West Brom but was substituted on 59 minutes for Altidore.

Not really considering he is ineligble to play for Sunderland tomorrow

I reckon Rodgers will go, Mignolet, Toure, Skrtel, Sakho, Enrique, Henderson, Lucas, Gerrard, Moses, Suarez, Sturridge.
I was actually listening to Rodgers the other day, he said the players dictate the style and formation. But if that's the case then why was Moses playing number 10 when he isn't? It's becoming abundantly clear that he's shoehorning players into the team regardless of if they can play there or not.

Toure made a good start at centre back, so because of that he's a good right back? Henderson works hard so automatically makes him a good wing back/right winger. Moses scores on debut so he can play the number 10 even if he's not number 10. Lucas was boss under Kenny so we have to play him every game two years. Gerrard has been amazing for so long but even if he's having a bad game or a bit out of sorts we have to play him. Suarez is Suarez fair enough, Sturridge made a good start but even though he's out of form, looking a little less sharp than we would actually like we have to play him. It's just like an over reliance on people who because they've performed in the past can't be left out even if they're tired or out of form.

Without being rude, he bemoans depth but spent money on Alberto and Aspas and Borini for those exact reasons. 20+ million quid between them three and we have no depth apparently.

It's bollocks, take a look at our bench in 08/09 and take a look at it now. Rafa used to bemoan depth but at least the fella had a point, he had to bring fucking voronin in and ngoo. imagine if he had the type of money to spend that Rodgers had on depth, we'd be laughing. And he still rotated with a god awful bench, ours isn't that bad and we don't help ourselves in that respect.

Rant over  sorry.

My word, we'll be 6 games into a 38 game season.

If you watched The Godfather, liked the start, didn't much like Luca Brazzi talking to himself and then hated Sonny shagging in the bathroom, you wouldn't write it off as a crap film would you?

On the other hand, thinking like that you would have sat through the whole of Waterworld

Maybe it was just me, but I didn't think we were bad at all defending set pieces last night. If Enrique doesn't lose Hernandez, is anyone saying these things?

we lost to the mancs and Southampton both by set pieces so we have a weakness there

Sturridge is injured?

Now that Suarez is back, Rodgers should rest Sturridge to get him 100% fit, stop messing with his fitness.

Me thinks Rodgers should have kept Borini here. Paid a lot for him and in these circumstances he could have played alongside Suarez. Not a big fan of Borini but given the chance he could have linked up well with Suarez.

Only take one quality strike or a bit of magic from a striker to boost his confidence. Borini hasn't really been given the chance to do that.

Q. Is Rodgers being forced to loan out players, who are on big wages but are not first team regulars ?

If Sturridge is injured I'd go: Suarez        I'll cry if Aspas is played.

No. And it's a bit strange that you'd jump to that conclusion.

Think it's a fair question. Rodgers himself mentioned Reina's wage when he was loaned out. Why loan out a striker ,who you paid £10m + for, and when you have one striker banned and bit unsure as to how he will react, plus your other main striker not 100% fit.

So how much does Borini earn?

No more than 50k a week I imagine.

Brendan said he was loaned out for gametime.

Move on.
13mins - Bournemouth have gone home. Utd kicked off anyway. Still 0-0 as Smalling passes it back to De Gea.

^Exactly.

I'd love to see us stick with 3 at the back and wouldn't be worried if we put out the same team again. We showed enough to me that we can be dangerous in attack and I'm sure the defence will be on their best behaviour.

You've got to account for that as he was injury prone at Inter

You can't account for a collarbone injury. That's random. And if we had Eriksen, where do we play Coutinho?

Not that particular injury, I'm saying that the likelihood of him being injured is quite high. So surely having a good replacement should be high on the list?

The extra depth would have helped, and we did pursue Mkhitaryan; I think during that time we had Coutinho pencilled in to play from the left.
It's hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them.

And now Coutinho's out injured, who do we have to play there instead? Thought it was about building a squad with more than one player capable of playing in each position. Please don't mention Luis Alberto, he doesn't seem to count! ;)

Well... taking all things into consideration :

a)Morale not as high as when we won 3 games on the trot (no wins in the last 3 games)
b)gerrard playing again in the week... (I guess going by recent trend .....he is gonna tire in the 60 min of this match)
c)Unbalanced defence (toure as a rb)
d)Every team in the league will now know how to play against a gerrard-lucas midfield combo.

I would take a scrappy 1-0  ;D

But...as long as we don't lose....I will be satisfied.

Looking at todays results again proves how much of a big chance this season offers for us.

We HAVE to reduce the number of our off days though, games like against Southampton, this season and last one, or Reading away shouldn´t be happening again from now on.

At the moment, it´s a matter of attitude and mentality in order to win those sort of games and as much as we still need some quality for raising our level we still offer enough for beating the likes of Sunderland, Southampton etc. If we do so, nothing can stop us this season. It´s really up to the players..
One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10
