I never read too much into social media bollocks such as what's happening with Nunez now, but interesting to see what happens with him in the summer. I still think he'll be here next season but I'm wondering if Edwards who would probably have wanted someone different in the first place is looking at him and thinking he won't be the one to win us the big honours. Considering we'd have to sell at a loss I wonder if it's a rare occasion where a swap deal would work. Highly doubt it would happen but who knows. Maybe Openda from Leipzig, looks more a natural goalscorer who gets into the right decisions, and Nunez would probably score loads in Germany the defending is kamikaze and Leipzig attackers are well set up to score.
This plays into my issue with the Head Coach title for Slot. Not sure I'm a fan of the stats guys making decisions on selling players. I'm sure they've done their due diligence on sounding out potential replacements but it does feel like Nunez and his agent may have been told he can look for a new club by the higher ups.

If anyone fancies bank holiday boxing Inoue v Nery on at 12.30 tomorrow.  :wave
Inoue could make short work of this lad.

They'll need to shift quite a few players.

So i don't keep up with the women's domestic game but weren't we relegated recently? Pretty impressive to be back in the super league and up in 4th presumably? Did the club invest some money, is it just great coaching and young players coming through?

Probably another reason why he signed Timber and was playing him left back, as well as his build up play.
He has gone back to basics and we can go back to that as well because that's what we used to it but we're softer these days.

In our attack, only an inconsistent Darwin consistently wins his duel, maybe Diaz at time. That's it. If we're under pressure, the others keep turning it over. Havertz is underrated in that aspect.

In midfield, maybe Curtis Jones or Endo to an extent. The rest regularly lose their 1v1s and some don't even commit to a tackle. Declan Rice dominates in this area and Odegaard is more physical that his style of play suggests.

In defence, we have Trent who regularly gets targeted because he tends to lose his duels.

Maybe the trend is not giving teams an inch anymore.

Ederson at Atalanta could be an option if we're looking for a defensive mid. Stats look strong, he's the right age (about to turn 25) and plays in a top five league with the added bonus of some European experience too via this season's Europa League. Plus he's 6'1, so adds a bit of height in that area.

My 1st choice for midfield - him and Mac as a double pivot would be immense.

I know but that’s the sort of crux of the argument, isn’t it?

If there’s a lack of ready made 6s that fit our profile, maybe there’s someone on our radar who we go a year or two early for before whilst we have an experienced option and another prospect to grow alongside him. It might not be the instant floor raiser we all want, but maybe it’s just a necessary sacrifice to think more medium term.
we got Bajcetic & the academy just dont see the point.
Test PSG for Ugarte or someone at that level in europe.

apart from jota today was close to the starting XI

slot will learn from that

Who knows if that would be close to his first 11. We had Jones, Szoboszlai, Konate, Gravenberch, Nunez on the bench.  A very stacked bench when you add Gomez, Baj and Bradley too. Obviously we acknowledge that it's lucky if you have all players available, but even without signings, there's a lot of options there. And that's ignoring any potential signings.

It will be very interesting to see what players he favours.

I think we have a lot of quality but like I said in the Salah thread, I really think it's crucial that we keep hold of Salah if we want to make this transition as smooth as possible. It is baffling if anyone could think that having the new boss first task being to be trying to replace Salah's output would be a good idea. Asking for disaster if that happened.
