Not a chance, everything would just get pushed back a week.

I agree with this answer, what with it being UEFA - but would there not be a chance if both clubs agreed?
In theory we'd lose the advantage of being home second so you'd guess Atleti would agree.

That way both sets of fans can stick to their plans for the Anfield game and our lot at least have a fortnight to try to rearrange everything. It's clearly the sensible option (which is why I don't think it'll happen)

EASY JET HAS POSTED THE FOLLOWING NOTES ON THEIR WEBSITE WHICH IS A BIT OF GOOD NEWS IF GAME IS CANCELLED

If your flight is cancelled

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to offer you either:

- A full refund of the cost of your flight and any directly related unflown sector within the same booking (if applicable), back to the original card your flight was paid with (please specify details under "Other" on the bottom section of the online refund claim form), OR

- A free transfer to another flight on the same route within 30 days of the original flight date.

This is in accordance with our obligations under EC Regulation 261/2004

Stupid fucking question I know, but why the fuck can't they fly UNDER the ASH ?

jet aircraft are much less efficient at lower altitudes

Stupid fucking question I know, but why the fuck can't they fly UNDER the ASH ?

Apparently jet engines aren't at all efficient at low altitudes, they are designed to fly at 30,000 and if they flew lower than that for long periods they would simply run out of fuel.
Let's also never forget the 39!

How long would train, coach and ferry combinations take?

It can be done by bus. You could travel down to London, take the bus at 8am on the 21st and arrive in Madrid at midday on the 22nd. It wouldn't be particularly cheap though.

You could also do Eurostar to Paris, TGV to Hendaye and then either bus or train to Madrid via San Sebastian or Irun most likely.

Read somewhere Barcelona FC is considering bus-ing it to Milan. Somehow doubt they will though.

There's also a risk the engines will stall. Happened to a Dutch flight over Alaska once - plane plummeted down 13,000ft before the pilots managed to restart the engines and land safely!

Same as me, really could do with it being this week.

Just watched news and with what they say about wind direction etc I really think this will be postponed. They will need to make the decision sooner rather than later and if what the news folk say is true then nowt is changing for a good few days

Latest reports say the volcano will continue to erupt ash for AT LEAST 4 more days...and in that four days there'll likely be no change to the ash cloud. However, if the wind changes direction, or or it rains heavily, there MIGHT be some respite. So we'll just have to wait and see...no one really knows how this'll pan out.

The worring thing is, Uefa may not cancel as the teams can reach madrid Bergkamp style. If that happens, not only do our fans get shat on but the team will be at a disadvantage too

Looks like this could cause a really big problem for Uefa. Atletico have a league game on May 5th (Wednesday night), then the Copa del Rey final on either the 13th or 19th of May depending on whether they make the Europa League final. If this game is cancelled then it would be really difficult to reschedule and fit in both legs, their league game, the Europa League Final and the Copa del Rey. If they are all moved back a week, Atletico would potentially have to play in the Copa del Rey final on 26th May without their World Cup players as the cut off date is on the 24th, so I doubt they would agree that. We could have a real dilemma here.

if they put everything back a week, there would only be 6 days between semi 2nd leg and final. The final may also have to be moved. This could be a total nightmare. One option is to play 1st leg behind closed doors?? At least then the fixture chaos would be sorted.

Heard that Barca are going by coach to Milan for Tuesdays game. Mentioned during tonights game.

I expect Lyon to go by road/rail to Munich. Only about 400mile.

Liverpool and Fulham need air travel as the distances are much further. If the ash is still blowing to the South East on Monday I think both games will be postponed probably for 7 days. This is UEFA however so anything is possible.

Don't forget UEFA will also bear in mind whether they can get their officials, corporates and sponsors to the semi's which is far less likely. And these aren't the kind of people who will go by coach. And I am sure the away fans will be a minor thought after that.
Let's also never forget the 39!

hopefully this fixture will take place on Thursday, but depending on this ash cloud and restrictions on air travel, if it does happen to be re-arranged, who knows...UEFA have delayed matches by 24 hours in the past, when games have been rained off for example.

Behind closed doors? Why? The way UEFA think, they'll say if the teams can get to their away legs then why can't the fans? Besides, there's no way the home team will agree to that.

I think the only solution would be to move everything back a week, which would mean Fifa having to bend the rules to allow Atletico and Sevilla's World Cup players stay past the deadline for the Copa del Rey final.

Maybe it would be too short notice, but could they swap around Atletico's midweek league game on May 5th to this coming Wednesday, and allow the Semi-finals to be played on the 29th April and 6th May?

AMSTERDAM – KLM, the Dutch subsidiary of Air France, says it has flown a plane through the cloud of volcanic ash covering Europe without suffering any damage.

KLM carried out a test flight above Dutch air space Saturday. It says initial inspections afterward showed no damage or irregularities from the ash in the air that has led to a ban on air travel over much of Europe since Friday.

The airline says it now plans to return seven airplanes without passengers to Amsterdam from Duesseldorf Sunday.

"We hope to receive permission as soon as possible after that to start up our operation and to transport our passengers to their destinations," said Chief Executive Peter Hartman, who was aboard Saturday's flight.

Not really related to Madrid specifically, but a mate of mine, who was due to fly out this morning at 7am, has been pushed back till Tuesday. He will be updated on Monday if this is going ahead or not.

This is unprecedented situation. UEFA/FIFA probably don't have much of a contingency plan for a mess up on this scale.

i am in a slightly different situation, not sure if this an advantage or disadvantage?

I have been working in Madrid Monday to Thursday and was due ot fly back on Thursday when UK airspace was closed.

So im now stuck in Madrid (worse places to be stuck).

The problem for me is my ticket has been sent to my home address. I am also guessing that couriers would probably use airmail to get stuff over to Madrid.

But even if i sort my ticket out, i don't want to be the only red over here, so im hoping the flights get sorted.

I would have thought that anyone who has booked a flight, and has a seat, will get priority over all of the people who are stranded or need to rebook on flights after theirs were cancelled.

As pointed out by lfc 2005 Atletico have a lot more games to play and the Copa del Rey is the real fly in the ointment for them as they wanted to play it in Madrid but Seville said they didn't. So this game is now going ahead in Barcelona. If there are more postponed matches and they lose thier World Cup players i don't think they will be too happy.
