He was my first proper guitar hero, as it happens.

Mine too terry.
Neal Peart for the drums.
Dio/Plant for Vocals
Never that bothered about the bass player  :-)  but LOVE the bass coming in on SOTW so probably Glover
JPJ for Keyboards

All the badge kissing in the world don't make up for the fact that they are, frankly, not Liverpool Football Club. It's not their fault. Its just how it is.

What a fooking line up ..   8)

As brilliant as Plant is/was, Dio for me was the best live vocalist I ever had the pleasure to have seen.
For such a little fellow he had one powerful voice on him.

Funnily enough just watched "nowhere boy" on Slyplus instead of the Engerlund game ( mind you did manage to catch Rooney getting sent off - foolish boy) - anyway what I was just saying to my daughter was that I was disappointed that the lads who portrayed John and Paul had the weakest liverpool accents. I know they cant always select Liverpool actors but surely they could have out on better accents?! after all the media and crap comedians seem to manage it.. ;)

Funnily enough talking of Paul and panto, this promo photo of the fabs in panto outfits emerged a few years ago...

It seems that George is Dick Whittington and Paul is his cat, John is Aladdin or Ali Baba while Ringo is a bear from Goldilocks.

I've seen the picture somewhere else when it was discovered, can't find it at the moment, but this copy is culled from here a quite good little blog about all things George.

Interesting comments above Terry, thing is I don't think any of the Beatles had really classic albums once they went their separate ways. Some good ones certainly like John's Mind Games and Shaved Fish and maybe Imagine, but I think he missed the influence and competition that Paul and he undoubterly had in the Beatles. My fav album by an ex Beatle remains George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, and I don't think he surpassed that one either.

How about trimming the lunatic salaries of their club's journeymen millionaires for a start Rafa mate rather than stealing away the share of those clubs less fortunate?

Bloody hell, that brought back memories. I vaguely remember it now, I think it was the late fifties early sixties, I was only a nipper at the time but me dad used to take me. I think the guy's name was Stan Edge (don't hold me to that) and he lived in Edge Hill where I lived at the time. You're right, it was a ritual nearly every home game. I'd love to know what happened to him myself and anything else related to that pre match ritual.

Not going to swear here (much)

Read somewhere about a supporter of Chelsea who made a comment on the cost of attending a home match.  He stated that to attend a match, take his kid & his friends cost nearly £800.

£800 "$&(%^_%*))***:  tickets, prawn sarnies and fuel contributed to that.

Scarely a working class person I know that could afford that on a regular basis.  :no

Aye it's no longer our game - and Terry's right hasn't been for 20 years at least. What really gnaws at me is what kind of " tradition " are today's match attenders pass on? What will their legacy values be?
(I can't bring meself to call 'em fans sorry - and no insult is intended to any of the REAL fans who keep the faith and still go.)

I tell you honestly, we old lot might have had it rough during the 50's watching mudpits pretending to be footie pitches and you lot getting pissed on by your own on the Kop but there's no question that the lads we saw as we were growing up and being educated in this football lark were real men who delivered passion and pride for the shirts. Even if at the end of their playing careers all they got back from their career (if they'd been careful with their weekly pittance) was probably a boozer.

I still love the old memories of what I still say is my club - Manchester United - but I don't feel it really applies to THIS club playing in the red and white today. I can't help wanting to see those wearing today's shirts do well - almost 60 years watching is a hard habit to kick. But I guess I'm saying in a roundabout way that I deep down no longer care enough about the values evident throughout today's game - if indeed there are any such. Sad but needed to get this feeling out. I can barely believe I'm reading what I've just written but there you go, that's how I feel about my club and indeed the whole fucking game today.

There is nothing wrong with striving to win, so long as you don't set the prize above the game. There can be no dishonour in defeat nor any conceit in victory. What matters above all is that the team plays in the right spirit, with skill, courage, fair play,no favour and the result accepted without bitterness. Sir Matt Busby CBE KCSG 1909-1994

I'm glad Bill Shankly isn't alive to see this.

The destruction of our game.
The destruction of our unions.
The destruction of our communities.

Football is dead. Thatcher and her evil henchmen got what they wanted, the destruction of the working class and everything that made us human.

It's like the end of Animal Farm where all the animals are looking in the farmhouse and can't tell the pigs from the people.
