Yeah I thought he was decent last night, very unlucky with his tackle their the second goal.

Yes, I thought he was good. He was also unlucky with how the referee judged some of his tackles, Barcelona's gamesmanship held sway last night, it won't be the case at Anfield. That "free kick" still annoys me even now.  :butt

Must have watching a different game to many on here. He was good.

Nah, I was watching the same game. I just think he left too much space in front of the defence against the greatest player of all-time. That's probably on Klopp's instructions more than him though.

He was basically trying to mop up on his own , broke up play nicely a few times but needed help and very rarely got it.

Yep, we lacked discipline in the middle for whatever reason, especially after the second goal. At that point we were still well in the tie, yet we lost our heads a little.

We're still in it of course, but if we attack too much then Messi will find a lot of space. They will probably play Dembele too for his pace, so we need to be more compact as a side, even while striving for goals.

Surprised by the comments here. I was supporting him back in October when others were doubting him, but tonight wasn't his night in my view. Busquets got the better of him in quite a few aerial duels and his positioning in front of the defence was a little all over the place. I'm sure some of that was tactical though - he had a very tough job in there and wasn't poor by any means. But he wasn't great or even good either.

He'll learn a lot from that game though, as they all will.

My initial reaction was similar.

I think him, Gomez and VvD, and to a lesser extent Alisson, are in the same boat. They did OK and didn't really do a lot wrong. However, none of them had great games either. I'm taking 8, 9, 10 out of 10 performances. They were all 6 or 7 out of 10. Good but not great.

It's not a criticism but against Messi and their attack we probably needed everyone to be 8 out of 10 or above. Definitely in a defensive sense we needed it. We were a shade below that and Barcelona exploited it ruthlessly.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Messi runs into him, falls over, wins a free kick and we all know what happened next.

Fabinho, in our moment of need, remembers what happened to him three days before, realises the officials are stupid, runs into Ritchie, falls over, wins a free kick and we all know what happened next.

Without hyperbole, that is the best central midfield performance I’ve ever seen. Booked after ten minutes and then puts in a performance like that against Messi and co. Incredible.

To play like on a yellow, dear god!! I thought he was a cert to be sent off, not because he'd do anything wrong but the ref would punish him for anything but he didn't even give him a chance. Just ridiculous.

What an utter fucking monster tonight. I mean we had about 50,000 monsters but my word, utterly immense. Beautiful amount of filth and snide. Have that you fucking cheating c*nts. Hope he releases Messi from his pocket for next season.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.
