S3 is well up to standard- and of course it finishes with The Grand Opening- possibly the greatest ep ever...  ;)

Which I believe remains the only sitcom to have used the phrase "You carwash c*nt!"...

Surprised that Series 1 isn't cheaper than it is. Will have to go down to HMV and see if they've got an offer on!

I've seen series 1 in various Tesco's around the country for about £12.  Otherwise, there's a boxset with all series.

They're all of a high standard, and I'd start at the beginning; it's not crucial but some later episodes do hark back to previous events.

HMV do them for £11.99 i think. Have all 4 Series now, and will buy the fifth one when it comes out. My favourite comedy at the moment.

I'll probably end up with them all eventually but I'll take your advice and start from the beginning.

S5 is fantastic stuff.

Bri- it's not essential to do them in order- the themes and relationships which are the bedrock of the whole thing are a constant- but there are some references which wouldn't make sense out of order.

Series 1 and 3 seem to be the best from people's reviews.

What series are the showing on More4 at the moment, do you know? Would like to see different episodes. That always happens to me - I watch something which has made about 300 episodes and find out I've already seen that particular one.

Amazon are doing an exclusive box set of the first 4 series. Get that, you won't leave the telly for days!!!

Also, I saw on Amazon that they have set the release date for S5 - September, I can't wait.

Best episode - The Nanny

In fact, I'm gonna go and watch it right now  ;D

I don't think series 5 was the best of the lot but I watched most in quick succession so hard to judge.

'The Ski Lift' was perhaps my all time favourite episode though.

So did this ever take off in the UK?

I seem to remember it was 'tried out' and the slot given was like 4:30am on a wednesday morning or something. Then it was dropped?

Excellent show. One of my favourites and I think the best ever from the US....

No as usual the time slots they give US classics means they never get the exposure. Seinfeld was criminally left off primetime until pretty much its last series

Funny how people here with whom I feel I share a similar sense of humour can like something that I really can't see the point of.  The bits I have seen so far have been deeply unfunny.

What am I missing fellas?

Hard to say. The "Smoking Jacket" episode was great.

I find it is better watching one after another. One episode here and there doesn't do it justice. Until you realise his character, it's hard to get the humour.

Series 5 is due out on DVD in September here in the UK, but if you have a multi-region DVD player, the US release date is August 1st. There are a lot of people selling on ebay already. I've just ordered it. Damn my impatience!!!!!

Haven't watched it for yonks - something I'm about to put right - but I seem to recall having convulsions watching the episode where he and that woman are battling down the corridor to get into the doctors waiting room. Hilarious.

I find it like Fawlty or Alan partridge in that Larry somehow manages to complicate even the simplest thing, thereby creating problems entirely of his own making. Like Fawlty/AP your eyes are drawn to Larry's facial expression. You just get that lovely warm glow when you sit down to watch it that only the very best telly provides. Bliss.

Four episodes into series 5. Loving it - the whole bra thing with his maid, and the Kamikaze pilot stuff. Quality, as ever.
