Finished a 3 episode mini-binge. Spoilers for a 15 year old show following...
Hearst - the big bad businessman - murdered Ellsworth, the Widow Garrett's second husband to force her to sell her gold claim. He also shot at her in the street but she was not injured.
Trixie in retaliation shot Hearst in the shoulder but didn't kill him.
Al arranges that the widow sell her claim to Hearst, on the condition that he leaves camp. Hearst wants Trixie dead as revenge. Al doesn't want to kill Trixie, so instead he murders another of his whores Jen who sorta looks like Trixie. Hearst visits Al's office, sees the dead blonde in the coffin, thinks it's Trixie and is satisfied.
He leaves town with a warning from Bullock - who's lost the election as Sheriff that Hearst rigged - never to visit the town again ringing in his ears while Al scrubs down the blood from his office.
