PORTOIn one of the most unlikeliest of finals, Porto took on Monaco in 2004. Under the coaching of a man who can only be described as a nobody, Porto lifted the cup, winning 3-0. A team of 10 Portuguese internationals and 1 Brazilian took to the field, after an extra ordinary year in the champions league.
Porto celebrated, but Mourinho did not seem to be partying after they won it!Goals from the Brazilian Carlos Alberto, Deco and Alenichev, who came off the bench, saw Porto cruise to victory in the final. Just 7 years on, where are the players now?
Vítor Baía(41) - GkBaia stayed at Porto for the rest of his career. However, despite being voted the best goalie of the 03/04 season in Europe, and having won the domestic league and top honours in Europe. Baia was not even called up for the Portuguese national team for Euro 2004. He was replaced by Helton in the Porto goals in 2006, and never manage to regain his starting position. He made one last appearance for Porto, which would be his 700th total career appearance, before he retired in 2004 at the age of 37. He then took up a role of 'director of public relations' at Porto, but left the role in July 2010. He is one very few players to have won all three European honours (Cup winners cup, UEFA cup and Champions League)
Paulo Ferreira(32) - RBFerreira was one of many players who left Porto after the champions league victory. Paulo would be one of those who was signed by boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. After a few seasons, he struggled to hold down a regular first team spot, and players such as Boulahrouz, Geremi, Belletti, Ivanovic and others have meant he has been more of a squad player for Chelsea. He still plays for Chelsea, and has won 3 domestic league titles in his time in London. But
never a European cup.
Jorge Costa(c) (39) - CBOnce of Charlton Athletic, Costa was to quickly go stale after he captained the team to European glory. In 2005, he was not needed by the club, and signed for Belgium team Standard Liege, but retired after just one season due to 'personal reasons'. He then started his coaching career, becoming assistant at Braga. He spent just a season as assistant before he finally got managers job. He was fired midway through his second season in charge, and would move to second division club DC. Olhanense. His final job was to be at Academica, but resigned from the club after just half a season there, once again for 'personal reasons'. He has not yet got back into management.
Ricardo Carvalho(32) - CBAnother to go along with Jose Mourinho to Chelsea, Carvalho was to have a successful career in London, making a name for himself, despite injury problems. He also
never won a champions league medal at Chelsea. As soon as Mourinho joined Real Madrid, Carvalho's head was turned, and he got his move in summer 2010, signing a 2 year deal with the Spanish Giants. He is now a permanent fixture in the Madrid side, despite his age.
Nuno Valente(36) - LBValente struggled in the season after the champions league win. He was injury prone, and eventually was deemed not needed by Porto. He was to move for £2.2million, in an absolute bargain for a small club called Everton FC in England. He was at the club for 4 years, before Leighton Baines meant he never got enough playing time. This helped him in his decision to reitre from football on 12th June 2009. He then went on to become Everton's scout in Portugal for a year, before joining Paulo Sergios Coaching staff at Sporting Lisbon.
Costinha(36) - DMConstinha was again a starter for the whole of the 2004-05 season. But was sold in the summer to Dynamo Moscow. He spent just a season there, before moving to Spain, and becoming part of the Atletico Madrid team, again he spent just one season there. His last club was to be Atalanta in Serie A. He hardly made an appearance there, despite spending 3 years at the club. In 2010, he finally terminated his contract, and retired from football. He was named as director of football at Sporting Lisbon soon after, but after criticizing the clubs board of directors, he was fired from the job in February of this year.
Pedro Mendes(32) - CMMendes was sold to Spurs in 2004, as part of a deal that saw Helder Postiga go the other way. He was part of the first team for the whole of his first season there, and scored a brilliant 50 yard effort against Manchester United, which was ruled out for some reason. His second season didn't go as well, and he moved to Portsmouth in 2006, where he would stay for 2 years, and win an FA cup. In 2008, he moved north, to play for Rangers in Scotland, he spent 2 years there before moving back to Portugal to play for Sporting Lisbon in 2010, where he still plays.
It's almost as far over as Luis Garcia's shot!Maniche(33) - CMManiche was another player to join Dynamo Moscow in 2005. It didn't really work out in Russia though, and he went on loan to Chelsea as a short term solution for them in 2006. He eventually joined Atletico at the start of the 06/07 season, where he would stay for the next 3 seasons, including a season on loan to Inter. After a spell in Germany at FC Koln, Maniche joined Sporting Lisbon in 2010, where he still currently plays.
Deco(33) - ACM Deco went onto to play for Barcelona, where he won another champions league medal, and 2 domestic league titles, before joining Chelsea in 2008. He started well, but never managed to impress enough to keep his first team spot. In 2010, he moved to Brazil to play for Fluminense where he currently still plays.
Derlei(35) - ST Derlei also moved to Dynamo Moscow in 2005, and he spent 2 years there before moving back to Portugal. He played for both Benfica and Sporting Lisbon in between 2007 and 2009, before he moved to Brazil and Vitoria. He moved after just one appearance there, and now plays for Madureira in Brazil.
Carlos Alberto(26) - STAlberto has been on numerous loans since he left Porto in 2005. He moved to Cortinthians where he spent 2 years, one of those years being on loan to Fluminense. He then got a move to Werder Bremen, and despite being contract to the club until 2010, he went on loan to Sao Paulo, Botafogo and Vasco da Gama in that time. He moved to Vasco permanently in 2010, but this year has gone back on loan to Gremio.

Nuno(37) - GKAnother player to go to Dynamo Moscow in 2005, he spent a season there, but never became a starter, and moved to Portugal once again to play for Aves who were relegated from the top division in his half a season there. He then moved back to Porto where he would spend 3 years as back up to Brazlian Helton. He retired when his contract ran out, and is now goalkeeping coach at Malaga.
Ricardo Costa(29) - CDAfter 2 more seasons at Porto, Costa moved to Wolfsburg in 2007, and spent 3 seasons at the German club. A loan to Lille in 2010 saw his career in Germany come to an end, he currently plays for Valencia.
José Bosingwa(28) - RBBosingwa moved from Oorto in 2008 to Chelsea, to try and solve their right back position. He started well, making many appearances in his first season, but due to injuries and poor form, he has struggled to keep his spot, and is currently used off the bench at Chelsea.
Nananananana MONOBROWPedro Emanuel(36) - CDPedro never moved from Porto, until his retirement in 2009. He returned to the set up at Porto in 2010, with new manager Andre Villas Moas naming him assistant manager.
Dmitri Alenichev(38) - W Alenichev scored the third goal for Porto, and was only in football for 2 years after the game. He spent those 2 years at Spartak Moscow, his career came to an end after he criticized the head coach, and his contract was terminated. Since retiring, he has joined political party United Russia, and was voted the representative of the Omsk Oblast, he was representative until 2010, when he went back to Football and took charge of the Russia u-18 team. He was also part of the Russia team that won the "Legends Cup" in 2009.
Edgaras Jankauskas(36) - STHow many clubs can you have in 6 years? Your about to find out. Edgarus joined OGC Nice the season after the win, this was just a loan, and in 2005 he signed for FBK Kaunas. He then went on a 2 year loan spell to Hearts. In 2007, he then moved to AEK Larnaca, and then moved to Belenenses in 2008, the same year saw him move to Skonto Riga. The next year he moved to REO LT Vilnius. A move to America was next, as New England Revolution took him on for a season. He is now at Fakel Voronezh, where he.... will probably leave soon.
Benni McCarthy Porto kept hold of Benni until 2006, when he would join Blackburn Rovers. He started well in the premier league, but slowly started to lose fitness, and was not getting picked. He didn't even make it into the South African team for the 2010 World Cup. His move to West Ham this season has not really worked out, as his fitness as been scrutinised once again.
Manager:José MourinhoJose has made quite a name for himself. His boring football has won him 2 league titles at Chelsea, 2 league titles at Inter Milan, including a treble in 09/10. However, he
never won a Champions League title at Chelsea. Jose Mourinhos favourite player is Luis Garcia, as he admires his ability to get the ball over the line.
