I don't think Suarez has scored an away goal in the Champions League since 2015. Barcelona should've been trying to flog him 2 summers ago, they've a tendency to hold on to players longer than they should though and that leaves them having to keep going deeper into the red to replace them.

He was decent fir them when he first left us

Since then he’s got progressively worse. He’s now an average player capable of world class moments

Barcelona's accounts were released today and they owe us £84 million in transfer fees for Coutinho. They also owe a staggering £230 million to other clubs as well, the figures are amazing. Went onto the Barca Forum site and this post stood out.

"We just borrowed another 90m from Swiss and French creditors. On top of the 140m from the US at the beginning of the year plus another 30m to finance Griezmann's transfer, we have borrowed 260m in the last 12 months.

This 90m appears to be secured to pay off debt that will come due soon, basically we are borrowing money to pay off other debt. Sure the interest rate is low, 1.5%, however the fact that we have to keep borrowing concerns me. I don't even think all this money we borrowed is necessarily going to help fund the Espai Barca project."

I think this proves that anybody that had studied their finances were correct in that they couldn't afford the transfers they were doing.  And they couldn't, they just found willing financiers for it all.

Interestingly you have missed the most significant bit of this.

We sold on the transfer fee to a third party and took it as a lump sum.

So Barca owe us nothing (or maybe just other triggered bonuses? They say we are still due £4.5m) they owe some third party company instead.

Add all this debt to the £500-600m they  need to revamp their stadium and they are in deep deep shit.

Feel like with them and Madrid though they basically have free reign to pile on debt in general running, pile on more debt when they want a new signing, pay for the debt with more debt when clubs want their money, and basically never have any of their creditors put any pressure on them to pay what they owe. At least not simultaneously in a way that would actually put them in the hole that they're digging.

Barca may not have the escape clause of selling a training ground to the council for five times it's worth though.

Luis Suarez is now 4th on the all-time scorer list for Barcelona with 185 goals. Not shabby. 3rd place (194) is within reach while the second spot (232) may be too far off. You’ll never guess who’s number one..

I really can't decide what's better, the look of shock and disbelief on those Barca players vs. the similar horrified look on the Milan legends in Istanbul?  Maldini's crushed look of throwing away their Italian reputation of immaculate defense or Messi's faceplam with his peerless legacy being ruined right before his eyes?

I know one thing, there is more than enough room in my heart to cherish both miseries in equal measure.

Can't decide if it's Jordi Alba looking like a broken man at half time, Shakira getting more and more abusive to her kids as it all goes to shit or them completely glossing over the 4th goal and skipping straight to full time and then a training ground with it pissing it down.

Even the joint press conference 2 weeks after the match

Y'know, watching that I become acutely aware that I'd hate for ourselves as a club so become arrogant as to  delight in the misery of our opponents and feel it is as satisfying as our own achievements.  That's the path of Abu Dhabi FC.

However, that being said, if there's one thing I can't stand it's rivals disrespecting our club and its history.  And that's a hallmark of some continental clubs.  That whole Suarez, "I wont celebrate if I score a goal at Anfield" bullshit was damning with faint praise - "I know this used to be a successful club once, but..."

I will take no end of pleasure in ramming that back down their throats because they always forget who we are - they always forget they're dealing with Liverpool Football Club.  And I like it so very much when we remind them the hard way just who it is they are dealing with.

We are not some plucky fucking underdog - we're your fucking PEERS.  Show some fucking respect.  You don't have to like us, but just remember - there are only two other places in Europe you can visit a trophy room that has more European Cups than we have.

Well this is it, isn't it.

I'd always had such a lot of time and respect for Barcelona. I loved seeing us play them back in the 70s. I've got Barcelona shirts over the years. I've visited their city and their ground and loved it. I'd not normally take pleasure in their suffering like I would Man United, Everton, Abu Dhabi or Chelsea. Even then, I only enjoy their suffering because of the way they treat us.

Thing is, I lost a lot of respect for Barcelona because they seemed to have so little respect for us. They decided they were Billy Big Bollocks and treated us shabbily. When you do that to Liverpool, you get it back like karma. Their failure could never be as sweet as our success to me, and neither cold the failures of any club for that matter, but seeing any disrespectful big time Charlie coming a cropper is always nice. If they'd come here with respect, played a good game but got sent packing, we'd probably have applauded them off the pitch and felt rather sorry for their pain in that video ... but they didn't.

They really were. They just knew, didn't they?

It just shows the power of Anfield and this team when we bring it all together. That Barcelona side is packed with supremely talented winners, but they looked haunted there, and it was only half-time. I didn't sense any confidence in them at all.
