So bittersweet to relive those.

What we don't see in either footage is what I remember clearly--and what I'll miss most--about Aurélio: the pre-free kick close-ups on his eyes: swimming in blue that's clear as the sky, with a glint that made us wonder, "surely he can't be attempting a goal," only for us to get lost in their azure gleam and forget our hopes and prayers that he'll rifle one in, past Cech, past Van der Sar, past James, past whoever, to give us hope, a happy lead, or a newfound strength, and discovering, ecstatically, that it doesn't matter, what matters is the eyes, those amazing eyes, those hawk-eyes, those devilish hawk-eyes that just watched the ball sail past and under and through defenders like a laserbeam into the unexpected half, the top corner, the inch of space between a player and a post, and his eyes become normal again, whereas our laughter has transformed into peals of joy.

Good luck, lad.

Plus, he's got a foot like a traction engine.

That Chelsea free kick was brilliant.

The awareness and technique to pull it off was top class.

Goodbye Fabio, good luck!
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

Ex Liverpool man, Fábio Aurélio, linked with Palmeiras

June 3, 2010

Palmeiras are in the hunt for a new leftback and have expressed an interest in signing Fábio Aurélio. The Brazilian has just left Liverpool after turning down a pay-as-you-play contract. Aurélio’s ability has never been in doubt and he was a recent call up to the Brazil squad. However, since his arrival at Anfield, the Brazilian has suffered a string of injuries and Liverpool were not keen on giving the 30-year-old the type of contract he wanted.

Palmeiras’ current leftback, Pablo Armero, could be on his way to Parma and the Palestra Itália club are keen to have a replacement ready. “It’s an area that we need to reinforce. We’re still waiting to sort out Armero’s exit but Fábio Aurélio is a name in which we’re interested” said vice president of football, Gilberto Cipullo.

Had rather hoped he might stay on in some sort of coaching role but if he still wants to play, best of luck to him.

Classy player, just a shame we never got to see him regularly enough.

Sad but inevitable. Another of the intelligent, technically-blessed players out the door. A rare breed. Along with Xabi, probably the most gifted and elegant footballers I've had the pleasure of witnessing in the past decade or so. They just made it look so simple.

Glad he's got a top tier Brazilian side [Lucas will be made up], and a return home after a decade in Europe. Good luck Fabio - even if you did let me down with my 'not just another permacrock' thread :P

Injuries during his time here leave me thinking what if?  (Athens 07 & the semi in 08)

However, Fabio was my favourite player of Rafa's time and I will always remember that it was a pleasure watching this guy play.
