Gives me Howard Wilkinson vibes when he took over Sunderland 2002/03.

Howard Wilkinson had a league title behind him to get the fat pay cheques.

I think that comparing him to an Owl is very unfair on the Owl

I agree. Didn't the ancient Greeks have an owl signifying Minerva, the godess of wisdom?

Hodgson isn't wise, he's middle England's answer to Terry Fuckwit.

Quote
Hodgson's second season with Blackburn did not match the relative success of the first, due to numerous injuries, dressing room unrest, and the failure to find an adequate replacement for departed central defender Colin Hendry. As a result, Blackburn had a poor start to the season. After Berti Vogts resigned as manager of the Germany national football team in September 1998, Hodgson was contacted by the German FA to succeed him. Hodgson declined, unwilling to break his contract with Blackburn.
Just looking up his time at Blackburn and found this beauty.  Is this actually true?  I mean Germany were crap then, but still.

I think it's true, I've read it before too. German football was going through a bad period and Hodgson was pretty respect in Europe at the time. They were pretty serious too although from what I read, Hodgson didn't decline, the German FA ultimately decided they wanted a German in charge. Maybe it was a bit of both but I doubt Hodgson is that honourable that he wouldn't break a contract.
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

Their schedule

@United
vs Chelsea
@Newcastle
vs Westham
@ Spurs
vs Everton

So, clearly they will score their first goal against Everton?

Fecking hell, I can't see them scoring any points at all until West Ham.  Newcastle may be below par but Rafa can make mincemeat out of Hodgson's Palace as things stand.

Gives me Howard Wilkinson vibes when he took over Sunderland 2002/03.

To be fair to Wilkinson, as Crasher said, he has at least won a title.  Owl Poo has won jack shit.

:D

I will thoroughly enjoy him struggling this season. Any thoughts on which players will take a hit from him publicly?

I think at some point he will hang Sakho out to dry in the press for a poor result. I'd bet money on that. He's an easy target because he's a risk taking centre back and at some point, a risk won't come off. "You don't expect a £30m centre back to be doing that!". Also see him having similar problems with Cabaye as he did Miereles. He isn't a Hodgson midfielder at all. He also cannot drop him because he's the only midfielder who looks remotely capable of unlocking a defence.

I want him to bomb so badly and for that nasty side to come out so quickly that nobody is in any doubt anymore over who and what he is. I suspect though, De Boer will be somehow blamed for his failings. Leaving him with a bad squad. They weren't properly drilled in pre-season. Not fit enough. It will be something.

I think that's been airbrushed somewhat, he probably wrote that paragraph himself. Like fuck did he turn them down, he was never fucking asked! I think he appeared on someone's list of potential managers, but they never got near to interviewing/offering him it.

Palace would've been Bowie's local club growing up I think.  Not sure whether he was a fan or not.

Its gets worse. He caused the player to leave. Hodgson wanted Carlos to play as a LW, but Carlos wanted to play at LB. Carlos even went to then owner Massimo Moratti "to see if he could sort things out and it soon became clear that the only solution was to leave".

I was about to say "in fairness, Carlos probably meant he wanted the left back on the side of the pitch instead of the corner of the 6yard box."
