I've come across three types of agents in my time - agents who are usually low-level ex-players who love the game and want to help young kids get the best deals they can for their career, and who will do the work knowing that a successful client means constant stream of income for the agent. These agents are probably the rarest. Then there are the lawyers/ex-lawyers who know contract law inside out, and while they might be hard-nosed and unscrupulous, ultimately they have their client's financial and legal interests at heart, and know that getting the best deal for their client means they get the best deal as well. So they work angles constantly to get the biggest money deals for their clients, and they have no real loyalty to the game at large.

Then there are those who watched Glengarry Glen Ross and Jerry Maguire, and think that it's an easy job full of travel and easy money, and all you have to do is be arrogant in negotiations and not budge an inch because you're getting paid either way. These people generally only start working when there's money to be made (contract negotiation/transfer time). Outside of that, they are lounging around "being" an agent. These would have failed if the FIFA Agent Licence was still mandatory.

Never think it's a bad thing for players, no matter their age, to be evaluating their position on relation to their motivations.  It's certainley helped us get some really taleneted players.
