Weirdly I rewatched it on Sunday - still a remarkable, provocative and bold film in 2023. Looks stunning in HD too.

I'll hopefully be picking up a Bergman later  ;) (my favourite of his works).

Looking forward to it, mate.

Top tier Kurosawa. Probably more of a Kurosawa film I respect and admire though (in terms of clever narrative structure and cinematography that would be hugely influential to American/French filmmakers), than a Kurosawa film I affectionately love (the Ikiru's, Seven Samurai's.... that stir me more and cut deeper emotionally for me).

This draft is based on trust and the honours system so I trust you. Anyone found to be cheating however will have their picks replaced by a selection of films starring James Corden.

Same opinion. It's a film that is super influential.

While I don't think some of the themes click well for a modern viewer unlike some of the other Kurosawa films. The style and storytelling techniques used still feel fresh, partly because many other films still continue to use similar technqiues.

I love both these answers, and entirely agree with both of you and what you raise. And I'm with you and Samie, Nicholls, in terms of other films of his that stir more (especially Ran)

I was however butchering that really bad Rashomon dad joke in my first message! (but I'm glad for the discussion :) )
