For us to compete in the long-term we have to get far more commercial - it's not ideal, but it's the way it has to go. For that you need business acumen which exists in those that have lived that career.

Its all about success on the pitch. Everything else follows on from that. Get a good finance director and commercial sales director and they couldn't fail if we are successful as a team on the pitch.

I disagree about him getting the best out of Lucas, he used to play fairly good and consistently under Rafa, just watch his performance against the scum last season at Anfield, probably he's best to date.

Maxi/Soto maybe?

Ngog has been really impressive, but is that down to Roy or is it because he has had a few seasons to develop and getter year after year?

So thats a few out of a whole squad of 25-30.

Not to mention those whose performances have actually gone down under his management.

Just leaving with one thought....and to open up another can of worms.....

Ironically it was during a period of inconsistency and poor results on the pitch which brought about the most sucessful and profitable commercial activity off it. The last financial year was the most profitable off the field yet the weakest on it since...what...1997?
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

Sounds to me like the commercial side is all sorted then. You realise that you have inadvertently supported the case for making Kenny CEO? Anyway, the cricket beckons.

The role i see Kenny having is as a club ambassador , the ''face'' of the club if you like. Also playing a crucial role in over seeing the youth development in getting the best players. That ties in with FSG's long-term vision. At least then we will know Kenny is still playing a part in the club's future.
I really don't believe that is the sort of role that would interest Kenny. He's a football guy not an advertising hoarding.

If you care to read the thread more carefully you will observe that nobody said H & G were CEO's but they were allegedly businessmen (apparently not very good ones).

Look the role of a CEO in a big business is clear but here we are talking about Liverpool Football Club which is not just a business but is actually a passion for its customers (fans).

I know nobody said that H&G were CEOS... That's why I was bemused by your decision to bring them them into it. Anyway, this is way off topic.

Credit to Ian Ayre on that front.

Sorry back on topic. Shut it Roy.
From here on in its all FSG's doing. Good or bad they will stand or fall by the decisions they have made in the summer of 2012. Lets hope they have gotten it right.

Well no, not really. The commerical revenues are really Ian Ayre's area of expertise and once again constitute only a tiny percentage of a CEO's role among many facets Kenny is not experienced in.....

Right, cricket started....I'm off! ;D

I'm sure the success of our  commercial revenues were based on continuous CL success and coming 2nd in the table. This coming years account, which should reflect the results of last seasons inconsistency, our commercial revenue figures should make an interesting read.

Adam Crozier - I know people hate him but he would turn LFC into a cash generator and this is what we have to move towards. If we cannot compete financially then we'll struggle to compete on the pitch - especially as financial fair play rules come in and we'll become more dependent on our level of turnover

If you look at man united, they purchased average players from different continents just to further their brand reach (I hear they're looking at bringing on an indian player for this very reason), they dropped the "football club" from their club crest because it didn't fit with their marketing philosphy (from what I understand), they introduced far more frequent club kit changes and so on.

It's not nice, but we have to turn into a cash machine to compete - for that we need business people at the club running the business side and football people running the football side.

We're/LFC are too backwards in this regards - it's why we're still sitting in a 45k capacity stadium and yet around us the world has moved on.

Ian Ayre is not business minded enough even in his current role IMHO - he is too much of a football person and his views on the stadium highlight this.

I saw recently that to get the Man Utd brand further into South Amercia they brought all the chilean miners who were trapped underground to Man Utd for free and got international media coverage - that's the kind of ruthless mindset we need. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-11979208

I swear, I've never ever seen another manager speak to the press so much. Not ever. He never stops. I actually have a theory on this.

He's not really doing these interviews. There's a floor in Anfield which is actually between the 7th and 8th floors and has really low ceilings. The press usually gather in here for the pre-match conferences, but recently they've discovered a tunnel behind an old disguarded empty Werther's bag in the corner of the room. The tunnel itself is cold, dank, and unpleasant, and on it's walls hang pictures of Alex Ferguson, Nivea Face Cream for Men, and a Metronome. This tunnel, incredibly, works as a portal and leads directly in to the mind of Roy Hodgson. While in there, if you can fight off the moths, you get to 'be' Roy Hodgson for 15 minutes, seeing what he sees, hearing his thoughts, and generally living the life of a footballing cabbage.

When your 15 minutes are up you are 'ejected' in to a ditch somewhere, and you then run off to write down what you've experienced.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Given that we're not privy to the reasons then it is unfair to deny the manager credit for players who have improved under their tutellage.  If we allow that to stand then you may as well argue that Roy's tactics are in no way responsible for the poor form of other players.

All he craves is attention, he's like a child constantly seeking it's parent's approval which is why he spends so much frigging time talking to the press, reminding everybody of just how good he is, when even the most cursory glance through our history should have taught him that at Liverpool we respect our managers for doing their talking on the pitch.

All that he does at Liverpool is calculated to get attention. Every press conference is turned onto him and his achievements and his feelings.

Like a small insecure child it doesn't matter what the reaction from his parents is, just so long as they react. If he can't get their attention and love by being good he'll do it by being naughty.

Similarly with Roy, all those press conferences where you couldn't quite believe what he just said? Deliberate. Being naughty. Getting a reaction. Any reaction.
I'm a believer.

Has anybody else read the Roy Hodgson article on Wikipedia? It's almost an apologia for Roy, and is so full of praise that he might as well have written it himself.

More to the point, this is the sum of his playing career; how on earth did this man get management positions?

'He was a moderately successful youth player with Crystal Palace but was never able to break into the first team. After leaving Crystal Palace he played non-League football for several years with Tonbridge, Gravesend & Northfleet, Maidstone United, where he also served as assistant manager, and Carshalton Athletic.[4] He briefly worked as a PE teacher from 1972–73 at Alleyn's School in south London, and later at Hillview High School in Pretoria, South Africa.'

Indeed.  A Purlsow listee.  Before Roy's time that though in fairness.

Let's be fair.  I think even Roy has realised that he was royally sold down the river by Purslow in the summer and has recognised that Lucas can be a valuable player for him.  I am sure that he is delighted that he is not off pulling up trees elsewhere like Aquilani.

There's not much in that TB article except the fear that they may not identify a manager until the end of the season. Meanwhile surely we all knew that Comolli was always going to be in charge of transfers and not RH. They won't let him spend ten bob without Comolli giving it the nod.

He'll be gone if we lose at the weekend I reckon. We'll be out of everything other than Europe then, and if I'm completely honest that FA Cup tie could end up being a walkover for the mancs. Quite how FSG plan on dealing with the unbelievable reaction to that if it happens I don't know, but it won't be pretty.

It's so unbelievably frustrating though, because I can't help but dream about how incredible it would be to take 10,000 to that shithole with Kenny in charge. The passion on show would be something godlike.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

“I’m hoping that one day I will get a chance to stamp a little bit more of my authority and philosophy on the team by choosing some more of the players.”

Yes indeed, that's exactly what Liverpool FC needs, more players of the likes of Poulsen and Konchesky who fit in with your philosophy!

And there, ladies and gentlemen,is exactly why it is so dangerous to leave this man in his job any longer.
Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns
"Come in", She said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I might be in!

Yeah Roy, we need more of your players. We won against Bolton with none of 'your players' on the pitch for most of the game. Coincidence?

Oh and having washed your hands of the Joe Cole signing, I ain't including him either.

By Sunday that'll probably make us even :(
Though I agree with the poster above, the sight of Dalglish making the long walk from your tunnel to our dugout would have an incredibly galvanising impact on our support and team.
