Load of applications between us, no tickets in any sales so far, lost bit enthusiasm organising this stage, especially as not even getting the emails about it opening!

Planning on going over to visit a mate for 4-5 days. He has an event in Munich on the day of the opener, and then we will head back to Berlin the following day. No tickets for any games, but free accommodation and a piss-up in Germany sounds alright.

Euro 2024 will be the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship - with Germany hosting the tournament. It runs from Friday 14th June to Sunday 14th July.

Euro 2024 has 24 teams divided into 6 groups of 4; the 6 group winners, 6 runners-up and the best four third-placed teams will advance to the 'Knockout Round Of 16'.

^ a LOT of matches to decided which 6 teams go home in the Group Stage - more £££s - and also UEFA trying to ensure more chance of 'bigger' sides making it through too...?

The current holders are Italy - who beat England on penalties in the Euro 2020 Final (played in 2021 due to the coronavirus).

I managed to get 4 Quarter Final tickets in Berlin for this in the ballot! Absolutely buzzing!

After the Russia World Cup, the Euro 2020/21 multi country fiasco and then the Qatari Farce, it feels like such a relief to have a major international tournament in a single, football loving diplomatic country.

Defo not going to take it for granted given how the future is looking

Yeah not a massive fan of international football but after refusing to watch the last world sportwashing cup it will be nice to see it back in a proper country and sit back and relax watching some summer football. Hopefully one of the smaller underdog nations can win it. Ukraine obviously would be the team i'd be cheering for followed by Hungary.

England and France look streets ahead in terms of quality.

Can't look past France or the German's with home advantage to be honest. England have the individual talent to match France but the Southgate factor is always going to hold them back.

If England had a Klopp, Pep or Ancelotti level manager in charge i'd have them as favourites.

Managed to get 4 tickets for the same game, as well as a group game (Netherlands vs Austria). Looking forward to it as well. Don’t really mind who wins, just hope that the games are decent and our boys do well. Plus a good excuse to have a few bevvies with my mates.

Been ages since I went to the Olympiastadion - it’s a lovely ground.

Group B is a proper group of death.

Most of the 3rd place teams going through takes away the jeopardy though. Spain, Italy and Croatia could all go through just by beating Albania.

Although, I don't think those 3 are in great nick at the minute anyway.

Did any one sell any tickets int he official resale (which went on sale earlier this week)
I did and the tickets have vanished in my account so assume sold , but no email confirmation .
I remember thinking from the first resale the process and refund process was far too surprisingly efficient for uefa… seems a bit slower this time so maybe normal service resumed

Is anyone expecting Southgate to pull out any surprises?

I think he'll name four from Palace in the initial 30-odd; Guehi, Mitchell, Wharton and Eze but probably cull most of them from the 26.

Whilst it would be experience for them I'm hoping neither Harvey or Curtis get called up.  Trent and Gomez seem nailed on, unfortunately.

I think Curtis has missed the boat (un)fortunately for him. Had he stayed fit he’d have made a strong case but since his injury and missing out on the previous squad, then loss of form/lack of game time I don’t think he’ll get in. Probably good news for us, but a shame for him.

Harvey finished the season well, he has a chance but Southgate tends to stick with what he knows. If Trent and Joe do get selected, I can’t see either getting much time on the pitch.

Has Wharton been that good for Palace? Seen plenty of praise for him, but can’t say I’ve actually watched much of Palace on this run, bar our game.

He was very good against us and that seems to have been the case in most matches since he joined Palace in the winter.

As much as anything though it's an area of weakness in this England squad.  That Henderson is still almost guaranteed a call-up alongside the distinctly ordinary Gallagher says it all.  If Southgate wants a fifth midfielder (the two aforementioned plus the stand-outs of Rice and Bellingham) then he's scraping the barrel for Kelvin Phillips, Mainoo, Wharton or Ward-Prowse, or throwing Trent in there when he's barely played half a dozen matches in that position.

Breaking: Gareth Southgate to omit Jordan Henderson from his provisional England squad for Euro 2024 after a nightmare season for the midfielder: controversial, unhappy, short-lived Saudi move, struggles and injuries at Ajax.

Curtis Jones is in the 33 man longlist.

Who is France's number 1 keeper? It's not Areola is it?

Can't see Ingurland getting anywhere without Henderson or Kalvin Phillips in the squad. At least Southgate will be able to keep the tired tried and tested back 5 of Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire and Shaw.

I think England's issue is that there is no balance in terms of the central midfield roles - they are so heavy on attacking 8s and 10s, that there are no genuine 6s. You have a few box-to-box 8s but defensive cover if Rice gets injured is a massive worry. I haven't followed Henderson since he left Liverpool but even in those latter months you could tell his best days were behind him. Phillips has had a mare half a season at West Ham, JWP hasn't been great either, Mainoo is talented but young and inexperienced and for some reason doesn't look like he can play 90 mins (does he ever finish games?), Wharton is young and its hard to see Southgate flooding the squad with inexperience - Jones would fall into that camp too I think, coupled with his unfortunate injury but he isn't a 6 anyway. Gallagher has finished the season strongly, and I do like him, but he isn't a 6. Trent isn't but you could see him be shoe-horned into midfield and Gomez has done that role at times for us this season. But it's a lot of pressure on Rice to stay fit.

There will be really good players who have had good seasons miss out on this squad. And some absolute shite who have had poor seasons make it.

According to Ornstein Henderson isn’t in the provisional squad. Curtis is. So as ever, I know fuck all.

That is a surprise.

26 players in the final squad - that's 7 not making it.

I can see Gomez making it due to his versatility (RB, RB, CB, #6) but Elliot won't. He has far too much competition in that area for someone who was only a Liverpool starter a few weeks ago. Before that, he was our secret off the bench.

Wharton in too, apparently. Likelihood is both he and Jones get cut, but even including them is bizarre for the waistcoat.

I had a feeling at least one of Henderson, Rashford or Grealish isn't going. Can't say I'm surprised if Henderson misses out

Why not all three?

I can see the value to Southgate in bringing Grealish on to win a few free-kicks in the last 15 minutes of a game but there are more deserving players in that position.  Rashford will be a passenger.

Why not all three?

Players should always be picked for tournaments based on form and fitness barring a situation like Lukas Podolski in which they end up playing better for the national team than their club.

England always have a tendency to take favourites and players based on reputation rather than form and fitness. Keegan at the 1982 WC being one of the earliest examples. Considering the wealth of talent at his disposal, Southgate could drop a few with questionable fitness or form without missing a step. He'll still end up taking someone who is half-fit who'll break down a week in to the tournament. It's the England way.
