I remember Peter Osgood played for them too.

Are Kevin Keegan and Jimmy Case the only reds to have played for them? Did Razor play for them before or after he was with u
s?

I know we took Paul Jones on loan from them when Ged was in charge.

Grobs after and Mark Wright before us defo played for them, good call on Paul Jones btw...

Paul Jones is tangible evidence that we are an affectionate bunch of supporters. 3 games, two good saves, four claps towards the Kop and you're in our hearts for ever. A permanent member of our Christmas card list. We love Paul Jones more than the Man U fans love the tramp, fact.

Let's smash em. If we keep our form at where its been, this won't be a problem and we'll have won 4 in a row. Also the other matches this week mean that this could be a big jump in the standings for us. Reina being back would just be icing on the cake. Here's to hoping Sturridge can get back into scoring ways, and I'd love for Coutinho to get a goal. Suarez pushing farther up the top scorers list almost doesn't need to be said.

I think we should have enough to dominate the game here in terms of both possession and territory, so hopefully chances and goals too!

Will come down to:

1. How clinical we are. We have become much, much better at scoring goals since the return of Lucas and the January signings. Hopeful we can score a couple here, but an early goal would be most welcome.

2. How well we defend Lambert aerially. Don't see them opening us up too much, but every side gets chances to put the ball in the box. Lambert - Red from Kirkby, by the way - is a 6'2" robust unit and good in the air. We have not been defending crosses well. Don't want to see a cheap goal against us from a set piece or cross from deep.
"You just have to give them credit for not throwing in the towel" - Gennaro Gattuso, May, 2005

And then we'll get 4th as well and everyone in the whole world can do one.

Need to be careful with Lallana, and obviously Lambert.

Lambert against Carra and Agger doesn't give me much hope in all honesty. He's a massive guy, and our CB's...aren't

This.

That's for a different thread who is the better player but on current form, Henderson is playing better and we look better with him in the team. Pretty hard not to see that.

Don't care how we win tomorrow. 0-5, 0-1 from a dodgy penalty, anything.

Southampton play a very high intensity pressing game under Ponchentino. We struggle when teams press our backline.

I think we'll see the same team as against Spurs and us being more direct than usual.

Early-ish goal would be a ticket to victory. In recent weeks one goal can lead to two or three more.

Saints can be decent but very vulnerable. Exploit their frailties and Suarez and Sturridge will have a field day.

It will be interesting to see if Rodgers opts for 3 in midfield or keeps at 2 like he did for Spurs. If it is 3 then I wouldn't mind either of Allen or Henderson coming in for Sturridge. That's nothing against Sturridge, who has obviously had a fantastic start to his career, but Coutinho and Downing are on fine form at the moment. If Rodgers does stay with 2 in midfield then the only change I anticipate is Reina for Jones, if Reina is fit.

I'm going to sound like a broken record but if we score the first goal, we will play with so much more composure. Saying that though if we do happen to concede first, I believe the team has the confidence to come back from a deficit, as shown against Spurs.

If it was down to me I'd probably start with three in midfield, with Allen replacing Sturridge. The reason I would choose Allen is because of the positive impact he made when he came on vs Spurs. Obviously Reina in goal if he is fit. If we are struggling to score, we can bring on Sturridge.

I think we should have enough to dominate the game here in terms of both possession and territory, so hopefully chances and goals too!

I don't know. They press high up and hard so it'll be very difficult for us to play around it. Our possession game still isn't at the level where we can just easily play around pressing. I'd expect us to concede possession and territory and play a much more direct game as their pressing should leave plenty of space for Suarez and Sturridge to run in behind. It'll then depend on how good the runs are and how good the through balls are with players under severe pressure on the ball.

So Allen isn't completely useless then? You're all over the place here. As usual.

Allen, Henderson or Shelvey, it doesn't matter. It was the extra man in midfield that we needed.

Allen isn't completely useless, as I've said before and you can check my posts I've said what he can bring to the team. Henderson is better though and offers more, in my opinion.

Except he isn't mate. Allen, actually knows what he's going to with the ball and can hurt a team with space. Henderson is a reactive player. He has tonnes of energy but as Yorky pointed out Allen is superior tactically so presses the ball more intelligently. He's also able to receive the ball under pressure (like he did against spurs) and create space and relay information on his passes which is something we lacked and why we didn't have control.

Allen can and has the ability to exert control on games, not sure Jordan does.

Indeed.

Henderson, while a good player, offers different qualities. Henderson is a bigger presence in the midfield and is capable of being more physical than Allen. His energy is great and he presses non-stop, but as you say Allen chooses the right moments to press. It's a possible reason why Henderson is always taken off at around the 60-70 minute mark.

It's just a question of what qualities the manager perceives as being more important as opposed to being a "teacher's pet" as Matt8Pie has put it.

The one good thing about that is if we're all thinking it (and I think many/most of us are), you can be sure as shit that Gerrard and the like are thinking it to, so complacency shouldn't be a problem, you'd think Gerrard would be hammering it home - no fucking about, full concentration, get it won.
