His run to open it up for Mo's 2nd was excellent. Thought he was quietly very good. Will be a bit disappointed with the 2nd chance. First was tough.

Probably my favourite play of the match, he knew there was no chance he was receiving that pass yet still made the run to open up the passing lane for Curtis. Could’ve easily had a hat trick on the night, always finding himself in positions to score.

As ever some people fail to understand happenstance and the non-meaningful nature of short term data.

Just as Jota scoring at a rate of a goal a game or more when he first came did not mean he would go on to be a 40-50 goal a season player, so any perceived 'lack' in his play over a few games does not indicate anything meaningful. In particular missing a couple of 'sitters' in a row is meaningless.

Shankly's quote about Hunt comes to mind.

Isn't he better on the left? I'd start him over Mane with Firmino and Salah on Sunday.

Kyle Walker and Pep would love this. Sadio is the only player who Walker comes up against who he cant physically or psychologically impose his will on. Sadio has destroyed him numerous times in one on one situations which is the strength of Walker's game and we will also need Sadio's workrate and physicality when we dont have the ball. That's the same reason i would also start Bobby as well. Pep will flood the midfield and will try and take the crowd out with the possesion game in midfield by out numbering our midfield 3, we need Bobby dropping in to give us that diamond in the middle of the park. It also gives us a legit goal scorer on the bench in Jota and his freshness and movement will be very useful to call upon in the second half.

I disagree. Multiple things can be true, he can play regularly for us and still need to improve in certain areas of his game [Mane,Salah have for instance]. We've set high standards as a team, there's nothing wrong with that. He is playing at a very good level, but the notion that he doesn't need to improve because he's already playing is false. Salah has improved since he left Roma, he's gotten better and better, taken his game to a higher level and helped us even more in the process.

Jota can improve. He has 1 assist so far. His passing can be better. That doesn't mean he can't play for us in the meantime, but it's an area that he can work on.

You can't just stay stagnate.

Exactly. I'm not sure if the point is being clear for deFacto. We are not talking about a struggling player that needs to improve. We are talking about a very good player that could improve a lot and become a world class player. Don't focus on the wording, but I am sure you and others can see improvements being possible for him. All possible and still him currently being a very good player.

Not sure if you or someone else focused on the wording of 'need to improve' vs more 'can improve'. If he didn't improve then he'd still be a very good player, but could see others then move ahead of him due to their improvements and he stagnating. Silly to think he wouldn't improve.

I am very excited to see where he is in 1-2 seasons more here.

That was me.  It was an (over)reaction to some of the negativity that has been flooding the forum lately which was just getting exhausting.  I was just being pedantic about the wording because it seems that everyone 'needs' to improve and players are constantly 'very poor' and yet somehow this team leads the league (and CL) in just about every attacking category that exists.

Anyway, we all agree that he's already a very good player but has room for improvement in some areas, so apologies for getting fixated on the language and dragging this into a needless two page discussion.

Bit annoying given how amazing our attack has looked so far this season. But we've got Utd soon and they never have to play against anyones strongest side so expect a few more injuries yet.

Yeah but on the other hand Varane and Maguire are injured and that is definitely worse than the defensive injuries we weren't allowed to mention last season. ::)

Big head despite never taking the PL by storm is still United best defender. So the longer he sits out the greater they will be feeling that effect.

Thank our lucky stars that Jota is available. We cannot afford to have another man down.

Great player, but it's not easy to stand out in this team. Plays next to Ronaldo for Portugal too. He doesn't seem like he plays for the attention though.

He's so clinical in the box, incredible positioning and finishes calmly.

His pressing was also fantastic. Best performance for Liverpool imho.

Klopp described him as a pressing machine when we first bought him, or something to that effect. He's relentless but in a quiet, unassuming way so it probably goes unnoticed. He was brilliant the other day, hopefully he'll kick on now because we know he's got goals in him.
