Here is my result

I like to add that it is not this high on other testers (usually around 14)

My thing is when i am watching a stream say bloodzeed on ace streaming at 2000 the constant buffering is making it unwatchable but this has only been happening for the last couple of games.

I use wifi but wanted to ask any tech eds - if i plug in via a cable straight to the modem will it make things more steady eddy ?

took me a day or two to download season 2 and 3 of the walking dead, just upgraded to fibre last night so be interesting to see what i start getting soon, predicted 35 to 40mb.

happy with that, was dubious at first on whether i'd see anything over 20mb, still settling but that's the highest download I've seen so far.

I can get 50mb/s on my phone via 4G

Broadband suddenly seems slow by comparison.......

I wonder if wired internet is the future or wireless?

They usually say it can take up to 10 days for the line to settle before you get optimum speed. Who's your ISP?

Is it cable or VDSL fibre? I don't know anything about cable to be honest. Though having set up a friend's network where he has Virgin's cable broadband, I would say that the Virgin router isn't very good. Have you tried a test with your laptop plugged into your router with an Ethernet cable, or just wireless?

I've tried removing the bell ring wire to give myself the best chance at. But this is the best I'm going to get.

Might move on to getting a better router. But it's never going to get me fibre speeds until Liverpool gets more coverage

new router is very unlikely to make a difference to be honest, Just need them twats down south to sort BT out and make sure they stay true to their promise. which they won't of course.

Cable. You're right, the Virgin router isn't great. Only tried wireless so far - I'll dig out an ethernet cable tomorrow and test it properly.

Did a (wireless) test on my iPad this morning and hit 50Mb, so either the line's now settled down, or it's an issue with my laptop. It's probably the latter to be honest.

Is this any good? I have literally just gone onto BT Infinity although they haven't changed my telephone cable from the pole to my house, would that affect how fast it could get?

Are you on Infinity 1 or Infinity 2? The upload is very slow. They shouldn't have to replace the line to your house, it is the line from the exchange to the cabinet that it fibre-optic (FTTC).

I don't know matey, I've only just got it on Friday & know nothing about it! I used to have 2.2Mbp & now its 37 but I expected a little more than that to be honest?

Infinity 1 speeds are advertised as up to 38Mbps, so if you're only paying for Infinity 1, you're doing alright (on the download speed, but I would question the upload). If you're paying for the top package (Infinity 2), you should get speeds of up to 76Mbps (I average about 68 when plugged in, and about 60 on wifi).

The other thing is that it takes about 10 days for the new fibre optic line to settle in, so they say.

Yep. I would expect an upload speed of 10-20 though, so of that doesn't improve over the coming days, get in touch with BT after the 10 day line-settling period.

I switched provider some time ago, and then recently upgraded my phone to one which says it has 4G, where available. Well, it seems to be available in my house so I got a speedtest app and ran it from my phone, first on wifi and then on 4G.

Results:

4G ping 49ms download 14.42 upload 3.08

wifi ping 48ms download 6.68 upload 0.56

Really? The general air around my house has better internet than my phone line? Am I missing something horribly simple here?

My 4G upload is 23 mps

Better than my broad band at 37mps and 2mps respectively.

When 5G comes, will broadband become irrelevant?

I'm envious of some of these speeds, can't believe it's 2014 and my street is still waiting for fibre optic!

Same here. I get 80MB on fibre and barely a GPRS signal where I live. Haven't even got 3G never mind 4G!

I'm paying for a decent internet package but my internet seems to judder a lot when I'm streaming matches while the girlfriend is on netflix. Streaming with the ethernet cable in seems to make it smoother, and this test was done with the cable in. Could someone please explain what do the numbers mean and are they good?
